yea, iv heard alot of opinions on chlorine and h2o2. honestly the slime n algea has cleared up quite a bit since i started using it. cant say forrsure if it helped tho? could have been all the light leakes i fixed, and dropping water temp.
 
The term EC is used as a general term for electrical conductivity
so lets say u have an ec of 1.0 ur parts per million would be either 500 or 700 depending on the meter ur using..
ec is the same worldwide, so i use that= )
 
jumbo I mentioned this before, buts its rather important so ill say it again(just in case u missed it, i miss stuff all the timed stoned)
if you ph is going up constantly, probably have brown slime, but if your ph drops constantly u probably have fusarium or vert or some other root problem,
looks like the slime to me though

and yea, i did miss that, thats some REALLY good info!!
my PH has been rising .3-.4 each day so yea slime is still looking like the most reasonable thing.
 
yea. i dont think my problem is to bad yet because the ph will rise some days, and be perfectly fine with no flux other days? lol
but im deffinatly glad iv got a grasp on what the problem most likely is =] i shud b sleepn alright tonight hahaha
 
so im heading to the hydro shop ina bit, im thinking i probly wont find the physan 20, as this is not a very big or popular shop lol
but im wondering if there are any other products i should keep an eye out for? any alternative to the wormcastings tea, or anything that will help clean up the roots. im trying not to order from the internet to save myself the wait n trouble of getting a pre paid card lol
 
Im sorry to inform you your plant has become root bound. you must cut away and remove that plant before it suffocates itself. and plant it before it goes into shock.
 
root bound? theres plenty room for the roots to grow, and they are growing rapidly day by day. please explain how the plants seem to be rootbound?
 
Had the same problem with my plants. We replaced the resivour water with distilled water and kept adding hydrogen peroxide every few days until it eventually cleared up. I guess the h202 evaporates so thats why u have to keep adding it? Thats what i was told anyway. Some of the other plants that had gotten it the worst never really fully recovered though. U have too keep a close eye on your roots and act quickly to take care of the problem.
 
yea, iv also noticed that theres a white residue in my res along the water line, witch mean my tap is hard water right? could this be contributing to the problem?

but thnx daytime =] iv been adding a cup of H2O2 about every 7 days inbetween res changes because i was told the same about it quickly evaporating.
iv been reading my ass off about aquaponics today, its really interesting. from what i have read this will aslo take care of brown algea?
any body have thought about that?
 
The whitish slimy gack is not algae. Algae is green and generally will not form where there's no exposure to light.

The slimy gack is an accumulation of pythium or similar.

The treatment is to dose nute solns with H2O2 50% grade at 1ml/L every 3-4 days. Important to dose the tanks with H2O2 REGULARLY, every 3-4 days.

For a system with a heavy infection, as has been depicted, start with a dose of 50% grade H2O2 @ 10ml/L and follow up 3-4 days later with doses at 1ml/L, also every 3-4 days. Ought to clear things up in a week.

By the time you see leaves wilting and yellowing, there's already been sufficient damage to the rootmass to stunt the plant badly. Plants in this condition may not recover and probably won't yield well. Dosing tanks with H2O2 from day 1 will prevent this from happening.

iv been reading up on pythium and similar root rot and that does fit my situation. im unable to order to concentrated H2O2, if they dont have it at the hydro shop should i just get some sort of sterilizer?
the PH dropped to 5.4 last night, so root rot it is (most likely) =[

and smokestar, its a bit impossible for me to switch resivors to less nutes when lights go off? iv never heard that befor bro.
 
so i just added 4 ml of 29% grade H2O2.
things are looking about the same tho, some of the whitish slime has turned into a brownish sludge, that comes off when i rinse.
its crazy, all the info i have been reading talks about how the bacterias etc.. look for the weaker plants, and will leave strong healthy plants alone, and thats exactly what is happening. 2 of em are getting chunky, little signs of the prob, the rest are about the same size with the algea or root rot going nuts. puttin up some pics tho, just so yall know how things look.

Iv got a ton of respect for al, although i must interject. that there def is a brown algae, which requires very light to grow.
In the past I have had the algae and those pics I posted are how they looked in the beginning, then it turned to a brown slime.
My ph would sky rocket everyday. I think al would agree that your ph generally drops with pythium, or other root problems..

yea, ima bit confused about all this actually, my plants are giving me mixed signals haha
tho there is a very small amout of light that comes in around the net pots, because i cut the holes with a drill and jig saw.. so algea is able to grow.
but both brown algea, and pythium(or other root rot) seem to be happening?
iv got all the symptoms of brown algea, almost to the T.
but all the sudden the PH drops to 5.4, and roots are brownish with some breaking very easily.
is it possible im just totally fucked and battling both? lol
