Root rot issue

@rkymtnman thanks for the feedback! Yeah I have about 15k lux now and EC lowered just slightly to 1.5. Thanks for your 2 cents on B-52. I am soon going for some clonex as well, just to make it super easy for the lady to recover. Thanks god it’s not an auto I am keeping the air space at about 22-23 degrees and the water temp is about <21, 22. Will see if I can get it lowered even further somehow.

@rkymtnman I have used duct tape around the hose that is lingering on the outside. I have also used aluminium foil to cover all of the pebbles and almost the entire pot so I am sure no light is getting in. Thanks for the suggestion!
sometimes minor details turn into major issues.

I've done the same with mine, do we think this is enough tape or should I extend it futher down the hoses?

@futurebanjo tbh I’ve done it for the whole in tent lenght. Don’t want to be cutting off stuff ever again hahaha. I have also reduced the temp in the tent to 21C and keeping humidity accordingly per the vpd chart.

@futurebanjo what is the thing on the left side of your container? Is that a chiller? That is one big dick container bro! Mine is only 20l hehe. What light do you have and how many plants do you do at a time?
I got an SE3000, it’s 300W doing 1 plant, Sour Diesel from SeedStockers (EU brand).

@futurebanjo Also not sure if you want the tape adhesive in the mix. Surely it’s PTSD from the rot! I am no micro biologist and this is my only 2nd grow, 1st being done in soil so I’d take my opinion with a lot of salt and hopefully one of the more knowledgable guys will share something on this topic.

@GreenSong

It's a fish tank submersible heater, where I live, heating prices are insane and winter is comming, so I figure that will be cheaper than heating the room up, as I'm guessing my LED won't be enough on it's own to keep things warm enough, and I don't want to run the house heating to that high.

This is just an educated guess so far, though, ambient temps in the room are about 18C at the moment, and will get lower over the next few months.

The water heater has a thermostat so I can set it to only turn on if water temp dips below 18c, and it will turn off again once its at 18c. I can set it a little higher at 20c if needs be.

The container is an oxypot 4 DWC, with water level to the bottom of the baskets its about 120L, but I'll be letting the water level drop a bit as roots grow.

Light is a maxibright LED, 300w. https://www.growell.co.uk/mpattachment/file/download/id/251/

Just doing 3 plants as it's my first time DWC (compost grower before so good to know were both kinda learning on this  )and I've only 6 seeds at the moment, I'm doing a grow diary that you can find in the link in my signature.

Yeah, I was wondering if the glue from the tape might cause an issue' if it's sat in the nute fluid. I've got plenty extra legnth in the tubing so I could chop off what I've done and do a more professional /neater job.. I would also be interested if anyone can chime in on that. I'm using 3M black duct tape and I won't be able to take it off without wrecking the tubes I don't think.

Ahh nice! Tbh I am loving everything I am learning about growing. It’s really valuable information. I was so oblivious to so many things, it was surreal hahaha. Ahh cool, you are also using the oxypot. I have even covered the blue tube that shows the water level with foil, so I can remove it easily when I want to check. Using duct tape on the bucket next to the blue tube to show me where the water level was when the mix was added. Will check it out! Good luck my man! If I can help anyhow, drop a message!

Yeah what I really like about hydro, and DWC is that initially it seems complicated, but you have full control over things like PH and EC, so if something starts going wrong, there's hopfully less guess work involved.

Good luck to you too, and likewise, feel free to chime in on what I'm doing :blsmoke:

It’s been 2 days since I have cut off the roots. The plant was perked up, but looking very sad since last night. Also it seems like the rot is back. Either I havent treated it with high enough % of peroxide or I am still having some environmental issue. Will let this lady go on for a day or two more, after which I will be popping a new bean. The new lady’s mix wont contain any organic products such as B-52, Vodoo Juice etc.

1st photo is roots just after the cut.
2nd photo is roots now.

Hey guys, we got blast off. Got some nute burn, as the plant drank only water while recovering and the ec jumped a bit. Now all is going according to plan! Will do better to avoid the root rot this time, as the lady gave me a second chance!

P.S. New pump in town, covered in black duct tape

P.S.S. How did I do on my first LST?

do yourself a favor and buy some black silicone airline tubing. it's about 10 cents a foot here.

@rkymtnman Hahaha, I have been looking for the black silicone airline and literally still didn’t find it. I’m based in Malta and the hardware stores aren’t the best tbh. Will continue digging however.

Also wanted to share an update on the roots. Looking fukin sexy!

p.s. I know the water level is high, gonna adjust it now. Plant still continued to use only water, so still battling the feed battle.

Would love to see how the plants progress and wether or not you can see any permanently stunted behavior. I’m dealing with a very similar issue right now and will more than likely be giving the infected root mass the chop. I’m just curious as if it’s worth it or if I’d be better off scrapping this early start of the run and starting over

Hey man, the plant is looking sexy and growing. Took her about a week and a half to get back on track after the root chop.

This is the advice I got from advanced nutes. Ignore the part about revive, it was just me panicking.
Since their reply came a few days late this is what I have done -
Cut off roots. Got a smaller bucket, phed water ( I used biobizz ph up/down which should be an organic product so the peroxide I added probably killed it ‍♂) and mixed 2ml of peroxide(6%, only I could find) per liter of water. I let the plant and the roots sit in it for 2 hrs. Plant looked very sad after an hour, however once I came back after the 2nd hour elapsed she was perked up already. After that I changed it into base nutes, voodo juice, rhino skin and hydroguard. If I recall off the top of my head, it took her between 4 and 7 days for the first new roots to be seen. I changed all pipes and airstones. Bucket cleaned with isopropyl alcohol.

P.S. I haven’t dunked anything in the rockwool etc as AN recommend. Literally only the steps above.

I would not take their advice when they can't be trusted to even have what's on their labels. Oregon sued them you can google it.

Anyway look for Pool Shock, Ca Hypochlorite run that in your res. I ran Chlorine all the time I was in rails. H2O2 is too fugitive. Plus it's cheap and readily available, just have to get the stuff without stabilizers. There are lots of posts tell you how to mix it.

PS I use Pool Shock because it doesn't have sodium and I don't like adding a competing positive ion to my grow.
