I am switching over to IR temp I believe....I have a paper, suggesting that thermocouples might have an Error margin up to 58% + - ! ouch! computer modeling was coming out more accurately in many of their scenarios, .......:joint:
IR temp in what sense? Comparisons between both approaches would be good to have. Please share paper, you know I love testing!

This is the US distributor....they are just getting over here and have had a UK distro for at least a year or more that I am aware of....Just got an email a few weeks ago and jumped on a few of the "lower" versions, aka less Pd....but still plenty [109 Pd @ .46 c/w...supposedly :;]

I have Cree CXB 3070's, Vero 13's and Vero 29's to all try out on these coolers....All should fit and have patterns already!!!!! Am I to put the drill press to rest? I just bought it :).....No way, there will be some future use.......

I do believe that @nevergoodenuf have may picked up some Passive Heatsink Coolers from Mecha for his big chips?

I do have a few concerns over the build quality.....but so far with initial impression after unpacking...they are pretty to look at, at least :peace:


Gawd, it was supposed to be PLC Pacific Light Concepts....oops!

EMI interference coupled with radiometric interference seems to be the biggests problem areas.....
you're right about that ...

Thermocouples generate a voltage dynamic because of the two different metals welded together..
that voltage changes with temperature and usually is at the uV or low mV range...
Thus very prone to electromagnetic noise /interference ..

Don't know if wrapping around a ferrite might help somewhat ...
@guod...Any ideas ,brother from your side ?

Try at different amperages...
If you can up to 2100 mA ,that would be perfect !

I'm not interested in passive cooling ,really.
High power output , high effieciency and long service life of a COB and compact size of a light ,
all demand active cooling ...
No matter what others may 've to say about it ...
I 'll stick to my standards ..


E : why the quality concerns ?
What exactly did not " fill up your eye" with those babies ?
Please ,provide a good description of those babies ...
Sound level ,built quality ,cooling ability ...Ya know ,stuff like dat ...(:

I've been playing with a lot of sinks for the past 6 months or so.
Picked up some mechatronics too. Little different ones. The thing I hate with most of the radial sinks it the fact that they never have enough mounting surface to be perfect. Always a little incut, other holes, or something so that not 100% is on sink. That pisses me off. And limits some holders/cobs in many cases.

That is an issue ...
Brother ,I'm sure you will find a practical and economical way to tackle that issue ,
if and since those HSF systems do a good job in cooling and deserve to be a part of your awesome lights .

E : those holes (under the CXB ) that remain unused could be filled ,
with thermal epoxy ...Maybe it will make a minor difference ...
Minor ,but nevertheless welcomed ...

Yep yep....that was slight annoyance #1, there are two incuts just slightly towards the outer edges for the CXB 3070 BJB holders...those Passive Mecha's are Nice!

Not very good ...

To measure a 1mm diameter spot area ,that cute sensor has to be 1 mm away from the measured spot ...
Almost touching the COB and LES ..
Most probably ,the results obtained would be ...quite awkward ...
Yes, I realize this....but I am attempting to go for for a heatsink reading rather than the Cob Tc monitoring point...and correlate with Vf?

Very questionable approach ...
I'm afraid ,that a lot of other variables are comin'; into play then...
Even heat sink surface emissivity and reflectance might be an issue ...
taking temperature measurements from metal surfaces (with IR sensors ) is tricky enough ..
Like trying to cut a mirror with a laser...
Doable ,but ..Ya know what I mean ,right ?

I have some basic knowledge, but even with the inherent difficulties is the variability or chance of, higher or lower?

Wrapping with ferride would be interesting....... Laptop power supply ferride module? already is pre-formed for wire hugging :)

Yeap,those ones ,i'm referring to...
PCB through hole coils ,also have a ferrite core (ring ,usually yellow or dark green colored )
and are cheaper( for free,actually) to obtain-salvage- from various electronics ...
Time to pay a visit to the electronics recycling spots/bins of your area ?

Right now, unfortunately I have only up to HLG120-1050, as my largest drive current :)

Not really concerns per se, maybe more like pet peeves?

2 wire fans....
some missing area on the case mounting area
"creative" mounting points from a fixture base view :)

No ,you did very well mentioning it ...
I do not have a great day ,either ...

Hate it when I see GG and AP argue over some worthless issues ...
I'm sure tha both are great guys and if they ever met in person,
they would have a lot to chit-chat and lots of ideas & knowledge to exchange between them...
