You can find 100 micron screens for commercial paint sprayers that fit on a 5'er at hardware stores. They use micron screens for art and screen printing also, creative sourcing.

My 2nd round, no heat used only hand & wooden dough rolling pin & parchment paper...33.5f ice water bath brewers bag 160 u filter...kief dried 2 days on screen & covered with parchment paper...temple ball cured in open dark area covered with cheese cloth 2 days... now curing in glass jar cool dar area for 6 months etc...very simple.

I don't know if Frenchy still checks this thread or not but, I just want to thank him for his lost art of the hashishin series on you tube. I've watched the whole workshop several times. I am now an aspiring hashishin.
We just got recreational cannabis in Illinois back in January. I had been asking about hash and they kept trying to give me either kief (poor quality, no melt) or a hash oil. No No No ... that's what I'm looking for.
My son said "If you want to know about old school hash you should watch some Frenchy Cannoli videos on YouTube ". That was it! I was hooked.
Of course I watched other "hash" making videos and dry sift came up. I started there. Made what I thought were some nice little pieces of hash. Definitely a higher quality than what I used to buy back in the 70s and 80s. I also had a couple of failures where it just wouldn't melt together to make a temple ball. I kept looking at shiny balls of yours and my balls were dull in comparison. I had to get my balls as shiny as yours.

Ice water extraction had to be the key. So.... how could I try this out without a large cash outlay? I got a 2 quart Mason jar, a kitchen strainer a large bowl, and a coffee filter.
Boom! After a whole lot of shaking a gram and a half of 80% to maybe 90% melt. Shiny, shiny, shiny. That's all it took. Small blue plastic washing machine full set of bags. I am getting full melt 73s now. Full spectrum Hashish that has been cured and aged for a couple of months has become dabbable.

My favorite strain to wash... so far, Vanilla Tart from TGA Subcool (RIP). The 73s first wash self pressed before I was done washing.

I had no idea @Frenchy Cannoli was a member here! Here's some hash I made using his method. It came out so smooth and just gets better the longer I let it age.

Ah, so this is where everyone is coming to whip out their balls. I see I am in good company.
Lockdown, what better excuse is there ..to stay in and churn out some quality Hash balls!
Personally, the thing I love best (while making hash) is to observe the mottled 'hawksbill Turtle shell' effects that come out in the hash (as you press it flat). I'm looking to make a thick glass table/surface (with a strong light positioned underneath, facing up). Then, as I work/press the hash, I can watch these mottled effects change (as you press). I might even try controlling the 'effect', to see if that helps me create some interesting hash
I'm sure people in the past observed these mottled patterns as they worked the Hash into thin patties too
And, Monsieur Cannoli` has helped me no end (thanks to his online content and feverish fascination with all things resinous). I salute the Hash Maestro General! May your water always be cold+pure, your resin always be ripe and your bubble bags never be clogged.

Was hoping I can swing a question by you guys...
My goal is to create a shiny temple ball.
I've only had one previous washing machine attempt, with 5month old stored trim. The 73-120 range was more like pressed Kief and semi melty. The lower 25/45 were more like a dull coloured squishy ball. (The only thing I can think of is the very first wash I ran a couple seconds too long.)
I'm wondering if I simply use a better starting product, say fresh frozen whole plant... Would I have a much better chance at the oily temple ball?
I'm not quite sure what that "piece" is that I'm missing from reaching my goal.

imo -
Each strain is different (having different sized 'heads'). So you need to hunt for the full melt with your strain/pheno first (with a quick run for clean results). You could scale it down, for this test; by using a mason jar to shake up some cold water, ice and trim. Then, pour that through the bags to see whats what with the head sizes (without the buckets and the stirring etc
Usually, the 90 or 75 bag have the melt (but, it can be found anywhere between 45 and 120+ bags).
Dry trim;
As a starting material, seems better for dry sieving (etc) and dry ice bubble bag extraction.
Water, ice bubble bag extraction for full melt;
freshly harvested, then frozen (and later processed) seems to give that full melt consistently (and with a wide spectrum) people crave.
Otherwise ..use any undried trim (needs some moisture to hold its structure together while washing), frozen, and finally processed.
At a push; you can re-hydrate dry trim (for ten minutes in a plastic bag with a few sprays of water). Before then processing it (it still brealks down a bit faster than 'moist' trim though).
**edit - also, do short five minute washes (maybe, even shorter ..depends on initial results)**
