Daylight savings cleared out the Covid crowds from my local trails. FINALLY!!!
My new “8000 lumens” bike light arrived and I swear I could harvest “about a pound” under it!
This is full blast.
I run it at 25% while trail riding.
It’s a spooky feeling when I shut off all the lights in the woods solo.
There’s lots of things walking around,
I can hear them crunching on the leaves as they step.

My bike rack fell down while driving on the highway and our bikes got dragged . We didn’t even know it was happening. Luckily a car pulled up real close to us slowed down and signaled us that there was a problem. We pulled off the side of the busy hwy and it was dark and very scary situation. Working quickly I got the bikes off and back on and locked on . My bike got the worst damage but it’s still rideable. The right handle grip shredded from being dragged , the cover to my bell got knocked off and the cover to my gear numbers got knocked off. I guess the rack is defective is what the guy who sold it to me said. I need to call the company to figure out what’s going on.

Did you buy it second hand? What brand rack is it? Was it one of the ones that attaches to the back of the car with straps?

I bought it brand new .
This is it

It has a hatch back feature that drops it down so you can get the hatch back open with the bikes on. I actually never use that feature at all because it’s on my Corolla that doesn’t have a hatchback. Anyway there is a locking mechanism that locks the rack flat for travel in the one end and then other end is the release for hatch back position and somehow it got knocked into hatch back position while driving. This is the position it got knocked down into.

Yikes! I guess it could’ve been a lot worse. Could have completely fallen off and caused an accident that your insurance would be liable for. If they cover that sorta thing.

glad no one got hurt, and glad your bike wasn’t damaged more!!!

Omg that’s brutal.
Good to hear it’s still functional and not ruin your trip/plans.
I’m very hesitant to use a rack, this just adds to the scratch anxiety I get sharing a rack w other bikes.
W a growing family I’ll need to get a rack. There’s only so much room in my hatch with my bike, other bikes, and more than 3 passengers.
Was it operator error or defect?

Enjoy the ride.

Yeah, it could have been so much worse . Luckily the rack came
With a long rope bike lock that I had around both bikes that locks into the rack.

Thanks. I think it was a couple factors . The main bar of the bike rack that goes into the hitch was a little loose and needed a turn to tighten it. Doing that would have prevented the extra bouncing of the rack. But when I asked the bike guy about the main hitch bar being loose like that causing extra movement and if it could cause the lock to pop he said no. He looked at it and said it’s too loose at the locking site and that he also has a Kuat bike rack . I really like this rack a lot and really want to keep it. So hopefully the company will give me some advice what to do.

they should send you compensation for the damage to your bike, unless it was definite user error

I just looked
At my husbands bike and it’s unrideable. The back tire came off and we just tried to get it back on.I did not realize how bent up the back gear shaft area is. We were lucky to get the tire back on but the gears won’t move. I will get in touch with the company on Monday. Thankfully we have one car and I am able to ride my bike to work still.54E02C05-7CBE-45F1-BE60-2030A5736361.jpeg

The hanger is usually replaceable and designed to bend to save the frame. Hopefully that's all it is.

Yeah when I flipped it back over it didn’t look too bad.
Also this problem in the front the chain won’t fit in because it got bent. C06CC191-46D3-4449-9E37-1529C27BD380.jpeg
we were able
To finally move the grip on my bike into the right position and duct taped it up. Lol. My poor bike. I am so happy I can still ride it though .image.jpg

I wouldn't ride that bike! It looks like the frame was bent looking at the chain line. Best case the chain got twisted but either way I'd take it to a shop and have them look at it. Nothing worse than having something fail on you when riding a bike.

I had a top tube failure while riding many years ago. The tube just broke into 2 just behind the head tube. Rear brake cable and front derailleur cable were keeping me from eating a face full of asphalt.

Yeah hopefully the company just ends up writing you a check for the bikes. I hate dealing with insurance people.

I snapped a chain on my way to work while riding on flat pedals. I hit the stem just to right of the boys and ended up going over the bars. Lucky for me I didn't hit my head but my groin had internal bleeding and I could walk right for a couple of weeks.
