A problem free live doesn't exist Med. Please show me one goverment program that saves us money. Private enterprise can do it cheaper. Why? Because they don't have to have 37 administrative personell go thru the paper work to make sure no one is 'cheating the government. How is that working out. Your problem is simple, the greed of man.
Why does housing cost so much? Because of the demand, right? What fuels the demand? Easy credit and supposed tax breaks for homeowners. They threw us a bone, you can still claim the interest on your house as an expense and look at all the money you saved in taxes. I had to explain this to my step father one year, he wanted to know how much the $7000.00 they were spending on a Mortgage and property taxes was saving them. This is insidious, wake up. SO I explained it to him this way. "Tell you what Gail, you just give me the $7000.00 in interest and I'll give you back $2000.00, thats more than the difference in you taxes. Its insane, we pay three to four times what a house is worth so we can move in and start living the American Dream of homeownership and the Government makes it affordable by giving a break on income tax. What a snow job. We live in an artificially created prosperity, just waiting for the price of our house to raise so we can refi our way to prosperity and security. Security and prosperity are created by puttting money in the bank. We call people losers if they live with thier parents instead of getting out on thier own. Folks spend $120.00 a year to make sure thier credit is good, shouldn't be necessary, hell it must be good, they owe everybody in town.
When I was young, it was a big deal to borrow money, a lot of those folks had been thru the depression. now they give you a gold star and save you hundreds of dollars in your cash flow. Bullshit, all it does is allow you to continue to spend beyond your means, create a false demand for goods and services we don't need and can't afford. Did you notice, almost everyone can afford a cell phone and a few have computers and internet access. DVD and MP3 sales are in the billions. What would happen to your economy if you couldn't buy the newest ones. You would save money, that ain't cool. Now you add all of that junk, won't last a year and spread the payments for it over the next thirty years. Why? to get out of debt. Easy credit is costing me money and it is costing you money. If I choose not to use it I will be paying for someone that does so they can continue to live in a house bigger then they need.
Who are these 'Auto Workers'. Why do they deserve to live better? Why should I have to pay taxes to retrain the guy that has been earning $40,000 while I have been making $20,000 or less. My brother started working at GM within a week of turning 18 and he is still there. He will be 61 this year. What happened to 30 and out? Prices went up so high because of inflated demand, they can't afford to retire? Or did they just keep spending all the money as instructed to save money on thier taxes? 95 % of the people in this counrty couldn't write a check for $2000.00 at age 65. Haven't been able to save $50.00 a year over the last 40 years. Our President went on National television after 9-11 and advised the American people to shop. Everything is great just keep fueling our false economy, continue the expansion, a few more Hundred Billion in Stimulas packages and we will borrow our way out. STOP SPENDING MONEY WE DON'T HAVE FOR SUCH A STUPID POLICY. Let me put my money in the goddamn bank and I won't need to have my kids be slaves to pay for my retirement, I'll pay my own way.
I watched in horror as they asked the head of the FRB if $100,000,000,000.00 spent was enough to make a difference. His response, it will help short term. NO it won't, it is just delaying the result. We have to save more than we spend to get on a sound financial footing. VV
