I equate it to being like topping.
We top and train the tops of our plants for yields
But this doesnt happen in nature.
Why dont we train our roots
from infancy ?
As well.
Wouldnt you train your roots like your tops if it increased yield?
I would like to hear your thoughts on this
@Dr.Who
Edit to add just on the most important question
Would you train your roots if it increased yield as much as topping?
First off let me say thank you! I wasn't offended (personally) really. It was kind of tiresome.
I asked for a link to the video. I'll look at part of it and find the rest later today.
I'll report what I think of it then.
I think I have a book of his.....have to look for it. Wife could go right to it, she's at work.
As far as train my roots...Here rooty, root, root....lol, just kidding.
Um, we do know that more roots = More and bigger buds. That being the case. Wouldn't bigger pots do it? Why limit root size? Because the plant over grows the size of the space? How about plant topping and pruning then, to hold size?
Kelp increases root mass by as much as 173% (this amount was done by a southern coastal state collage and in mixing kelp meal into the soil. Still, you get some serious root growth from Kelp extract use.) So then, why not just use kelp and the proper container size. Being sure to feed as needed for the roots/plant inside that container. To your plant size limitations.
If you take a "root bound" plant. The plant being in a too small container and feed that plant and it's roots like it's in a bigger container (more), you still keep a plant and it's roots feed and happy by simply giving it what it needs to be the best it can be. And you can get that same result you would get in a bigger container. There are variables you need to watch but, not hard to do if you know what your doing. Doubling the yield by container size is easy......6 zips from a #3 pot......Just to "see" what I could do. I've gone over
that by the above feeding ideal....I just did 2 plants in #3 pots and yielded over 6 per. I didn't feel like up potting them and they were a synthetic run, so I pounded the feed at the #5 pot level (by amount) and they simply rocked it.
Normal for me is organic water only growing, and blooming in #5 or #7 pots and with 5's still go 8 zips a pot. I'm happy with what I'm doing and my results. I think I train those roots pretty good. They get transplanted from 2's to 5's (3's to 7's) and veg for 8-10 more days to let the roots "set" into the fresh "bloom" soil. This, for most strains run in a particular soil, works to get the plant done and only a few long running strains need to be feed a bit late......The root ball is not "coiled" nor has the plant become root bound.
I'm just not sold on any fabric pot being the wonder answer to growing bigger and better. I feel the drawbacks out weight the performance of those pots! The waste factor alone makes them more expensive to use, much less buy......
My choice, my grow, my rules.
Been doing this cannabis growing thing for over 40 years.
I'm happy with where I'm at but, never to old to learn something new. I'll look at that lecture...
