ISO Extraction Journal

Alright picked up an oz of what i was told is Sour Diesel. Im not 100% convinced thats what it is, because it doesnt look or smell like any SD i have had before. The smell is that of liquorice . Looked at it under a 60x scope and the Buds are coated in trichs. The appearance is very dark green with dark some times almost purple orange hairs.

Froze 4.1g in the extractor tube along with 8 Fl. oz of 99% ISO for about 30 hours.

Did 8 short washes, 15-30 seconds. The last wash i shook the extractor tube up a bit to get everything out.

The plates had a pretty even amount of oil on them. The oil is pretty dark but so was the bud so oh well.

The return was crazy though got back 0.9g thats 22%!!!

Damn ill take some pics of the bud on my scale and the oil on my scale on the next wash just to prove to the haters im actually getting 22%.

After the plates were scrapped



Combined them all and started to low heat purge.

Got a 20% return from 6g of quality bud (a 50/50 mix of Platinum OG and Jack Herer):

I want to get a vag purge setup and vac the budder while it's still warm. That should wax it up pretty perfect.

The other thing I've been thinging about is getting a bubble bag setup and running everything through bags first. I would keep the full melt, but take the swagger bubble and make iso wax from it. Then cook with the leftover plant material. Seems like the best way to get the most out of it.

Just made this stuff today, not sure of the strain. ran 3.9g of bud got back just under 0.7g thats about 18% yield, ehh not to bad but not that great either. Only used about 6 fl. oz of 99% ISO thats the least amount of ISO i have ever used on a run.

Used low heat to evap, then let the plates sit out and cool off for a lil then put them back on the griddle to warm up and scrape.

why not try making a larger batch... say 100~ grams of weed at a time?

I think if you wanted to get shatter from a QP with ISO it would make sense to run it through bubblebags first, and then make the shatter from the bag hash. That way you don't have the plant matter rob so much of your solvent, and also don't pick up as much chlorophyll in the oil.

well folks i just tried my first attempt at a batch of iso from my trimmings,went amazing until i put it into the oven and dont alcohol into the burners lmao....still worth it in my opinion.Last shot is just some regular old ice water hash i shookaround in a jar.

how about with butane?

I did what you said there.. kinda.

I took 100g of weed and separated all the crystal/kief out of it. I now got 20g of pure kief that I am going to try rinsing with butane.

I don't have any butane experience, so I can't really say. However butane is a non polar solvent and iso is polar, so you don't really have to worry so much about extracting chlorophyll with butane the way do with iso.

A butane soak in a chilled thermos works. You might try a thirty minute soak for the first pull and an hour and a half for the second. Trichomes don't extract very fast in butane at low temperature, so it takes a couple of hours to glean most of them.

can you explain the chilled thermos more?

Put the material in a stainless thermos and freeze both it and the butane to -18C/0F, before mixing together and setting in a cool shady spot outside. Shake gently periodically for a couple of hours and dump through a strainer and filter, into a warmed evaporation dish. Process the same as a column extraction from that point on.

so what do you think of rinsing an oz of weed through the extractor with 5 or 6 cans... or until the liquid starts coming out white, not yellow? (tested in a 2nd dish)

The benefit is that you have more complete wetting and higher removal efficiency than a single pass tube.

Because the material is extracted in a frozen state, extraction rates slow way down, and the evil spirits stay mostly locked up in the ice.

One can should be more than enough for one ounce of bud. You would be better off emptying out the column and repacking the same material for a second run with at most another can. Probably more like another half can.

Over washing will turn your extract a light electric green color, that isn't notably harsh or bad tasting, but isn't popular with aficionados.

I only make small batches of oil because i like to keep a variety of strains, therefore i cant make oil with all my buds because then i will have no money to get a new strain....not sure if that makes any sense. Also i find that if i dont have alot of something, then i tend to conserve it more, If i had a quarter of oil in front of my face it would be gone too fast.

I got a run evaporating right now, im going to let it do a long room temp evap. The oil is already dry but im going to just give it the extra time because i didnt feel like scrapping tonight. warm it up in the morning then scrape it up.

so you would say its ok to re rinse an oz more than once... but to empty out my extractor and re fill it with the same stuff? I usually just shake the hell out of it to make sure im getting everything.
