Yes you could and yes they might, and yes the stuff you throw out is very good for soil.

Did u have to steralize the perlite or can u just open the bag and put some water on it? Also can you just put cups filled with water into the fruiting chamber? And mist lots?

You can just rinse the perlite with a %10 bleach/water solution. And just the wet perlite and misting should work out fine. Depending upon how your fruiting chamber is, you may need to mist more, or less.
