I'm afraid you may have conflated my position. It's not "every man for himself". That statement presupposes people would be prevented from voluntarily helping others they chose to help.
It would have been more accurate if you had said, "every (wo)man should be free to decide for themselves".
If you always leave other people alone to have their way, what is wrong with always getting your way ? Should a system which operates in opposition to that not be scrutinized and discarded ?

You are recognizing individual political states and thinking that a state or other political entity which exists is the ultimate and then you equate that political entity with being a source of freedom. Which is impossible...

It is assumed if you are in a given area that your allegiance MUST be to the ruling gang in that given area. Therefore the individual freedom of an individual to belong or not hasn't been protected, instead it is violated, right from the beginning.

Does Walmart use private security to protect their merchandise ? Do they send those security people to Kmart to pillage Kmarts stock ? To your house to steal your stuff?

Which entity would have the nerve to go to a persons house and violate that person and then claim it is legitimate?
Is it the entity which you erroneously think "protects freedom" ? The one which you erroneously think will bring about peace? Is it government ?
You have failed to recognize that customer feedback is an element which is important in a free market.
In an unfree market, dominated by government edict, customer feedback is often lacking, since government doesn't care or need your feedback, the reality is, they exist using the same means as the Mad Max world you fear.
