like i said knowledge of plants and their problems will help first without ppm.. thats all I'm trying to say.. trying to get this person going on a budget thats alldont really need a ppm meter in soil and if you ammend properly and dont add to much shit to your soil PH shouldnt be an issue either...sorry but i still have to disagree that a PPM and PH meter are both essential parts of any hydroponic system...may not be able to tell you whats in the water but if you notice a problem and take a PPM reading and its in the 2000 ppm range good chance its burn, if its in the 200 range good chance its deficient. its like a carpenter and a level, every carpenter has one even though he dosent use it every day.
