My problem with that link goud is that I don't trust it at all. The link you supplied is 6 bins above the highest one Cree has listed in a high CRI version. If they claimed 80 CRI it would be more realistic as it is the next bin above the AB.

Trying to find top bins for CXA sounds almost like a fools game.

I haven't looked very hard, but on digikey for 3000k 80cri, I can only seem to find Z2 and Z4, which are pretty expensive already. The reason you can't find them cheaply has nothing to do with whether you get 1 or an entire reel. It has to do with the nature of binning and the distribution of cobs produced in the highest bin being so sparse.

Only using AB cobs would be analogous to only hiring workers over 130 IQ. If every employer did this, only 2% of the population would be employed.

I only got abs because they were available.. And who knows.. You can't even tell it turns out.

I don't care anymore... It's good regardless. Just get what's available..

With different pricing they are going to need to label these things..

W2 for a 2700k 3050 is a lot different than W2 for a 3000k 3070, which would be terrible.

The bin ratings are absolute, and based on lumens.

More phosphor coating means less total lumens in general, and a smaller COB also maens less lumens, so the bin rating will be lower too.

W2 for 2700k 3050 isn't so hot to begin with, its only 31% efficient at 1.4 amps. I think it is the same size footprint as the 3070 just less wattage.

All my 3000k are ab and my 4000k are ad bins. Had to order 20 each and wait for a month.
I suppose that you can't be in a hurry. (proper planning prevents piss poor performance)

Just for giggles, I'm going to see if I can back order the highest bin in the data sheet.......

I'm picky about my workers like that. ;-)

I am looking at a very small setup. A veg room 30cm x 30cm ( 1 x 1 foot ) and a flower room 60cm x 30cm ( 2 x 1 foot ). Based on Supers earlier posts I came up with 1 x CXA3070@350ma 5000 ( 12W for veg ) and 2 x CXA3070@700 3000 ( 25W for flower ). Both veg and flower lights hung 15cm above the canopy.

However, in later posts, he mentioned running at 700ma ( 25W ) for the veg room and 900ma ( 35W ) or higher for the flower room.

Can anyone please clarify which would be better to ensure I dont waste my time building an under/over powered solution.

Also I have seen the CXA3590 available in 36V versions would that be better than the CXA3070.

If you think my setup is missing anything please let me know. So far the only other light I was thinking of adding was 730nm in the flower room.

I think the setup you have going for flower is pretty much perfect. It will give you a very efficient setup, and since you have two lights you can get a very even spread. I would not go with the 3590 because it is overall more expensive, the led's are more expensive and the drivers are more expensive. For veg i have no experience, i only have one tent so i veg with the 3000k 3070's, but Supra has said that he uses 12w or less per sqft. As far as i have understood the advantage of more light in veg is faster growth. So if you need your plants in veg to grow very fast you can use a higher current.

So 700ma for each light (25W) should be fine for the flower room for a total of 50W from two 3000 CXA3070? How about the hanging distance, do you think 15cm is right? I am asking as I am worried about the sides not receiving enough light.

Typing this I get the feeling I may come across as a whimp, asking such basic questions, But by my estimate I will be spending a few hundred on the setup; lights as well as the grow room so I need to plan the dimensions.

As I am trying to make a simple low power setup, I am hoping to go for passive cooling which seems to work as long as you dont run the 3070 higher the 700ma. My setup will have the dimensions of 95cmx35cmx110cm, which will include a mini extraction fan with Rhino carbon filter (12W) inside, so space is very tight.
