Crop #3: Deadhead OG, PurpleBerry BX, Chem 40G, Blue Cheese, and Qrazy Train

Thanks Beech,

I am afraid that they are about as big as they are going to get....
but the buds keep growing. :0)

As it turns out, this crop is only a couple of weeks from harvest.

The gnat infestation both directly affected growth and totally disturbed
my feeding schedule with me using the waterings to apply either go-gnats
or nematodes.

I am back on track, and new pistils are bursting from many of the larger buds,
but I would honestly like to chop these right now and start flowering the
mothers. I expect to do much better when I get back to FFOF.

Anyhoo, I am just watching them, and trying not to look at the bugs stuck
to my buds. Grrrr.

Hello,

Can anyone comment on whether OGs respond well to super-cropping?

I am thinking that I might want to lower these.

As long as I am at it, can anyone comment on any special needs of any
of the breeds that I am growing?

i.e. Is Qrazy Train as fast as reported? Do Chem 4 and Deadhead need
more N than other plants? (they seem a tad yellow)

Any comments appreciated.

Thank you for the time.

JD

Im Running Cali Connections Jedi Kush... I know it likes N in the beginning of flowering... as Far as the Qrazy Train goes Mine is good to go @ 56 days sometimes i let it go 60 because it leans more to the Train Wreck side of things butDank all the way!

Looks awesome man keep it up!

Thank you both for taking the time.

I do indeed have some very cool breeds going on, and even with
two filters I am having a hard time controlling the stink. The Deadhead OG
looks like it will end up very well, though it might go another five weeks.

The PurpleBerry is clearly the most finicky, and I hope that the PB mother
will do better, as the buds that I am getting are crazy looking.

I appreciate the confirmation SD. I have also found that the Kushes have
been the more pale of my plants. They really liked a worm castings dressing
that I gave them.

The Qrazy Trains have been about the least affected by all the shenanigans,
along with the Blue Cheese. The BC have looked like "good fucking genes"
all the way. That mother is going to make one giant bud, next cycle. :0)

I will be up-potting the mothers to 5 gallon hempy buckets in the next week
some time. I will be using FFOF with some Happy Frog and extra perlite.

Here are some bud shots. There is clearly a gnat or two that I will be cleaning
off. ...I have no reason to expect that I will get all of them, but this stuff is
so stinky I do not think that I will mind much. :0)

The PurpleBerry is perfect and clean:

Thanks J. 30 seconds and a pair of tweezers and the first two
will look a bit better. The Qrazy Train is really showing it's age nicely.

It will likely come down at or near when SickDogs did.

Take care all,

JD

Thanks KC

This Crop has been a trial, and I learned a lot....but I am already
beginning to move toward the next cycle.

My mind was made up when I checked the blocks this morning.
The gnats seem to be building up again.

I am pulling buds before they are covered with bugs....it is way
too late to spray them.

First I will take this Crop, then I will clean *everything*, then I will
move the mothers, xferred to nice 5 gallon hempys, into the tent.

I only took the Qrazy Trains and PurpleBerrys tonight, as they are the
first to finish.

I would let these go another two weeks at least, but my hand is forced.

Here is a PB:

Here is a QT:

They are so stunted....these got two weeks of Veg and started off as clones.

My AKs were easily twice the size at the same point, and the Somango were
even larger.

I will post some Chem 4 and Deadhead photos before I take them.

Take care,

JD

All looks good my friend... gnats are assholes and will always be an issue with organics.... Sucra Sheild is a nice organic pestacide you can use up until a week before harvest and wont change the taste or anything.... lt might be something to look into.

Good Growing my friend! :)

i dont agree w that.........theres no reason for gnats whether its organic or chem ........gnats are caused by enviroment not soil

Well, I can support it to a degree, and I surely appreciate the idea (I am
looking that material up, and usability to the end of the cycle is interesting).

What I agree with is that gnats are generally going to be part of the picture.

I cultivate mushrooms, all manner of species, and have always had a gnat or
three about....but this grow turned into the sort of population explosion that
is an infestation. This is something that I have never seen except where a
mushroom block had started to rot without me noticing.

The one thing to keep in mind here is that other than the breed changes,
the only change between the last two crops was the soil.

I am moving back to FFOF (plus Happy Frog, etc) and using 5 gallon buckets.
I expect no gnat issues....not to this degree.

We will see. I will be starting a Crop #4 thread to discuss that approach.

I appreciate the eyes-on and kind thoughts people!

Here is a comparison for you....

AK-47 budsicles, from Crop #2:

...and my PB BX budsicle:
IMG_1374.jpg
(no Coke can for comparison....but take my word for it...it would be at least
2/3 of the height of this bud)

Take care,

JD

im sure the cause of your gnats was or is the bags being wet and nasty.......probably u watering w the same amount in different soil if what u say is true about all things being the same........

I am also sure that you are correct on this.

There is little else to point at.... a breed change might lead to selective deficiencies,
like how much more N the kushes seemed to need compared to the Blue Cheese or
Qrazy Train....but these cause pale leaves, and not arma-fucking-geddon! :0)

My attempts to improves the soil only served to help confuse the matter further,
as when I took them out of the tent the top 4 inches were hard and dry where the
remaining bottom was gooey. The roots of the harvested plants were examined and
while I did not see the root galls I expected (had no idea what they looked like) I did
notice that the roots were brown and stressed. Not the white we want to see.

I am drying some nice smoke and look to get more of even better stuff, so this Crop
is hardly a complete failure. I learned a lot.

Onward and upward,

JD

You are both too kind.

I did take down the Crop, at 7.5 weeks. I am sure that the
OGs wanted more, but things are already looking up.

More on that later...this post might get a tad long.

I was pretty disgusted by my being forced to take my plants,
before the gnats got out of control....and I can confirm that there
was massive activity on the outside of my sacks, toward the bottoms.

The switch of soils, and having the sacks squished together was
a bad idea. I can confirm that packing the sacks in is not lethal
by itself, as I got huge AK-47 and Somangos when I did this last grow.

I did take a shot of a trimmed Chem 4 OG:
Chem4-OG.jpg

Here is a tasty Deadhead top:
Deadhead-OG.jpg

I up-potted my mothers, which you can see had gotten huge upthread,
into 5 gallon hempy pots. They are already exploding so fast that
I am flipping right away, going to 20/4 tonight, 16/8 tomorrow, and
12/12 after that.

Here is the tent getting filled:
IMG_1395.jpg

Here it is as of now:
IMG_1397.jpg

The clones for new mothers are taken, with a few of each breed.
(I am not sure which are really keepers so far, but I think that
my Somango will stay)

IMG_1398.jpg

I am pretty sure that the Deadhead Mother #2 will get too tall
for my light at the highest, but I have one slot free and will
train its buds as necessary.

I am thinking that I will hang a net that might also allow me to
run some branches out to the side some too.

Any netting comments appreciated. What needs to be done before
the flip? i.e. all real training, it seems, as some late training can stall
some breeds...I saw this myself.

Anyhoo, the word is that this thread will quietly morph from my
Crop #4 to my Crop #5, but as all the breeds are the same, you
will be getting to see much better OG, Cheeses, and Berries this
time around.

LOL. I really have a good feeling about this cycle. A very strong start.

I am still new, and am sure that I need to clean out some growth,
but my local weather saves me as mold and pm are not really
a problem where I live. (knock on wood!)

Take care,

JD

P.S You will also see Somango this cycle. It is really amazing.
