- When you fill the res is it empty or being flushed? Or just adding on top of what is already in there?
- When you say you check the PPM and pH are you checking whats in the res, what you're adding to the res, and then the res again after its added?

Also, when it comes to adding things like worm castings and molasses your res doesn't have a pump or anything pushing the water around so you should be able to add whatever you want - just clean it with peroxide between grows so you don't get any gunky build-up. With that octopot all you're really doing is watering the soil from underneath. If the roots grow down into the water, you've got an airstone - so even better.

Yea I guess I could have worded that better. Basically the PH is stable,when I check the PPM's of the res when it's low before I fill it,the PPM's are about 1/3 lower than what I'm adding. The res has lots of roots in it and I was told that at the end it will be filled with them.

My guess (take it for what its worth) is that the water already in the res is diluting what you're adding and the soil is probably also wicking up a bit of the water which will further dilute whats in the free standing water.
As long as the plant seems healthy, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If I was in your position I'd fill the res just as I have been. If the plant starts to show signs of deficiency or stagnant growth then I would up the feeding.
How feasible would it be to add a bit of bio bucket technology to the res? Make for some interesting organic hydro hybrid.

Like I mentioned earlier,no hydro experience. I guess I was expecting the opposite with the 5 gal soil sleeve wicking water and evaporation,and thought it would concentrate the res. This is my forth run with GG#4 and she's a bit finicky but I think I've got her figured out now and she's the healthiest looking one so far. She only likes about 600-650 ppm.
A lot of people switching to these are reporting that their yields are doubling vs soil,no telling how good of growers they are tho.
Nutes are as follows,600-650 ppm total.
Veg+Bloom RO

Mag-Pro 2ml
Budcandy 5ml
Nirvanna 5ml
V+B Life once a week

I like the potential of that system. Are you still doing the soil side of it like you normally would?
If you feel like doing a test grow somewhere down the line I'd be interested to see what you could do with that octopot keeping the organic soil side consistant with what you normally do while adding some organic supplements (castings, molasses, compost teas, etc.) into the res under a CXA setup.

The octopots res's floor space would be the same as a 10 gallon+ container?no?........think the difference in growth/yield would be minimal vs all LOS.

Yield was not my motivating factor,I already can pull 6 to 9 zips out of 5 gal of soil in a fabric pot. Just thought I would mention what seems to be their main selling point. My reason was to free up my time from watering twice a day,thought I would try one of these first then depending how this goes maybe compare it to Blumats.

Bare Onyx update. I chopped about five days ago and it's close to cure humidity,looks like it ended up about .8 gpw. If you need decent penetration then leave the lenses on. My advise would be for a scrog style or LST with a bare Onyx or a short plant in a space with limited height. The sweet spot seemed to be 10" to 12" above the plant.

Great log man, thanks for all the info , what type of soil mix do you use that you can water 2x a day? I know coco can be watered like that but I'm unaware of soil that can be sounds pretty bad ass, something I would look into I love growing with coco but just recently moved back to full organic water only.

They don't have to be watered twice a day but them seem to like it more and the results show,I don't like to flood the roots because they get less oxygen. Not using anything real special now,my base soil is Happy Frog and Ocean Forest mix and I use a super soil on the bottom. I was making my soils but don't have the time these days. I have a local grow shop that specializes in organics and builds their own super soils and makes teas also. I use fabric pots but cover the sides with plastic except the bottom two inches or so and I also put a cover on top of the soil,I end up with solid root balls without any loose unused soil on top.

Very nice, I love the fabric pots once I started using them I never used a plastic pot again, how come you put plastic on the sides of the fabric pot? Doesn't that reduce the air pruning that the fabric pot is known for?

I just loosely wrap them with Visqueen so they still get some air and leave the bottom couple inches open. I found that a fabric pot dries out on the sides and top quickly and you actually end up with loose unused soil on the sides and top in the end. By loosely covering the top and most of the sides it keeps a much more even moister level and the plant uses all the soil in the pot,Blumats may keep it more even too but may plug with added nuts.

Octopot cleanup. I tucked the fan leaves I could under the net and pruned the ones I couldn't that were shading bud sites,looks better.
