Hey Captain, How often are you having to fill the the reservoir on the Octopot? Are you using the 6 gallon? How much water does it hold? Thanks
I'm using the 6 gallon and the res holds 5 gal. I haven't really kept track but I would guess she's using about 1/2 gal a day,I'll keep track for the next week and post it with the next update.

Why do they call it the octopot?
The art work on the web site shows a pot and the roots are the tentacles.

They don't have to be watered twice a day but them seem to like it more and the results show,I don't like to flood the roots because they get less oxygen. Not using anything real special now,my base soil is Happy Frog and Ocean Forest mix and I use a super soil on the bottom. I was making my soils but don't have the time these days. I have a local grow shop that specializes in organics and builds their own super soils and makes teas also. I use fabric pots but cover the sides with plastic except the bottom two inches or so and I also put a cover on top of the soil,I end up with solid root balls without any loose unused soil on top.
Hey Cap, how many hours before lights out do you do your 2nd watering? I was thinking of doing this because It seemed I was flooding the roots every feeding, and I wanted to split it up but didn't want them too saturated before bedtime.

I never saturated with watering twice a day,the idea was to keep a even moister level with plenty of oxygen to the roots. I've got it down pretty good and could adjust the amount by feeling the bottom of the fabric pot. If you know what she'll take in one day without runoff just split it and I usually watered a hour before lights out and a hour after they come on.

Holy smokes, 6 gallons! My girls at 5 weeks are drinking 1.5 gallons every 6 days.
Those buds sure seem to like it though!
At this point are you seeing enough difference between the octopot and 5g smarty to justify the cost as far as production and ease of use (once you got your feeding down of course)

It's too early to tell anything yet, think I'll wait till she's done to give a opinion. I want to see what her grams per watt end up and the quality of the smoke. It is really nice to only check PH every two days and top the res every third day. I have the feed figured out pretty close and just need a little more nitrogen the first half of flower next time around, this is about the time she starts putting on serious weight.

The glue looks badass cap nice job!

I just loosely wrap them with Visqueen so they still get some air and leave the bottom couple inches open. I found that a fabric pot dries out on the sides and top quickly and you actually end up with loose unused soil on the sides and top in the end. By loosely covering the top and most of the sides it keeps a much more even moister level and the plant uses all the soil in the pot,Blumats may keep it more even too but may plug with added nuts.
I tested a few 5gal fabric pots and to make a long story short, scrapped them after a few the runs and sticking with no-drain 5 gal buckets. Apparently the 5 gal buckets breathe enough (filled with about 4 gal of soil)

Octopot update,I finished up with just over 1 g/w. The reports of big yield increase didn't happen in my case, maybe 10% for me but it was nice to only water or feed every 3 to 4 days. The reports of big yield increase I think come from less experienced growers that don't have their soil setup's dialed in. The GG#4 smoke was still nice but just slightly less flavorful than a organic soil grown GG#4. I'm thinking of trying another run with the Octopot but try to incorporate more organics and less hydro nutes.

Thought I would throw up some pics of my Pennywise at day 55,she tested at 8% THC and 8% CBD. Had to support all her branches at day 46 because one of them hit the floor and the others were on their way, very dense flowers.

She's under a bare Onyx Bloom with 4 Cree bulbs for side lighting and in a Octopot.
