If you had it to do over would you reduce your wattage to 400 or 600 watts? Thanks for your input (grow space- 2.5 feet wide x 3 feet wide)

I am growing in a space about the same size as yours and using a 400W hps for flowering.
Have read. 400W will cover a meter squared.
I did not get my expected yield, but tha was more my fault.
This grow is going better.

You are right one learns something new after each grow -number of plants? thinking about 6 plants - know it will reallly be crowded

Just thought I would post some pics of my little fun grow.
It is a Amsterdamnmarijuanaseeds.com Afghan regular, no breeder name given. It was a gift from my buddy.
I have been vegging for a bit, sort of playing with it trying to figure out what I was going to do with it, until I finish the WW and the CC's. Topping, bending and the such.
Well it is now the only bitch in the box. (I say that not knowing the sex yet) I am going to give it about another week then go to 12/12 and see what we got.
Very short and tight growth, with massive sun leaves which have now been removed. I have her bound and tied with what should end up being 16 or so bud sites. I have broke my share of stems during these manipulations but have been successful with taping at least one, one I snapped completely. Did not even know I did it till the next day and it was one I had not been working on. Started her under a 4 bulb 2' Tt and the SS400 LED for veg, she will be under the 400W HPS for flower.

Just ordered some new beans and looking forward to the strains.

Note the trunk on this plant, it is over a 1/2 wide and the plant is only 8" tall tied down.

SR, I have not seen him in a bit on any of the sites, but will keep an eye out and let him know you are looking for him.
Did you do the 120 from seed at 12/12? If so where can I read about it?

GR
Good looking out gr. no I havnt done it yet but I will be hopefully soon. I will definetly keep you posted. Right no I'm pheno hunting. I'm trying to find some keepers for next year. I'm pheno hunting super lemon haze, sinmint cookies and true canna gentics purple project. But I do have 20 blue dream, 30 sour kush, 30 ice bomb, Devils harvest 30 Casey jones, 30 sour strawberry diesel and 42 shoreline....so I have 182 seeds ready to do my 120 from 12/12. When I start I will start them in canna coco styrofoam cups for the first two weeks and then transplant them to 2l bottles with the bottom half mixed with perlite and vermiculite hempy style. Til them I'm doing a little project of 12 right now from 12\12 from seed.

Hey peeps. Be assured I'm actually reading the thread to find answers, not just begging for the work to be done for me!
That said, its a long thread, so I'll read while I wait for the answers to my begging!

I've just germinated a bunch of seeds for what has to be a quick in and out Hempy grow.
They're in rockwool plugs now, and as they pop their heads up I'm going to put them into sytofoam cups with perlite.
Dynagro at ¼ strength - grow, protekt and ⅛ strength kln (rooting hormone).

So my main question is, apart from burying deep at transplant, how can I help the roots hit the res as quick as possible?

Final pot size will be cut off 2 litre bottles. Should I pot up several times in graded containers so the plants don't have to wait weeks to hit res? Would I be better just getting them in the bottles in a week or so and giving small regular waterings to keep them going til the reach the res?

I need to go 12/12 asap really. Like I say, this grow needs to be a quick in out. It's as much about learning passive hydro as the actual result, but I do want a result!

In summary, tips on how to succeed in a pretty much 12/12 from seed Hempy sog under 600w HPS.

Shoot!

If you are looking for the fastest way to 12/12 then I'd go straight into the 2L. It will take at least 2wks in the cup to make enough roots to hold the perlite together. It will take longer than normal for the roots to hit the rez when starting with a plug in a 2L but it will not exceed the 2wk cup time.

Yes, keep the column wet so the tap root will reach the rez. One transplant is enough, don't shock the plant too much.

Now this is OMHO!

Ok .
Straight into bottles then. I guess very regular small waterings then? Twice a day? Morning, lunch and night?

Is it worth putting a handful of sterile pebbles in the bottom of the bottle for the res zone? The perlite I have has vary varied sized particles, some very small.

Once the roots hit the res, is that the time to go 12/12? Don't imagine I wantbto do it before then?

If you are going into straight perlite, then 2 lite waterings a day will do.
You can put whatever you want in the rez, but perlite seems to be the best. Just put larger chunks around the hole, the smaller pieces will wash through in the beginning but that will stop

I always wait till the roots hit the rez to flip.

OK. I put the grodan plugs into the top of the perlite filled bottle and watered until the res was full.
To stop the perlite washing through the hole I cut a little square of fine nylon mesh and covered the hole on the inside of the bottles before filling with perlite. Seems to have worked nicely.

I'm liking Hempy. I knew I would. :)

This morning I tried to overcomplicate a simple system by building a drain table that would allow me to water the bottles and just let the run off disapear down a plug hole and collect in a bucket under the table.

It was going well til I put all the bottles back in and managed to collapse the thing cos I didn't do a proper job on the legs. Like a twat.

So I tidied up the splilt perlite and water, salvaged the tiny seedlings and hopefully all is back to where I started. :/

Sorry to hear that Growan, but shit happens and when it does it is in buckets full. LOL

Well I go my seed order in today, actually came on Friday but was not here and had to go to the post office to pick it up today. I am impressed with the seed co. They said 5 to 25 working days and it got here in 9 days. The seeds I have seen, BW and WR, look very nice, dark color, plump seeds and nice color pattern. I will order from them again.

What do you use a table and support? I have a 1" pvc piping underneath my table slightly angled to run off into a bin.

That was pretty much my plan. I put a sheet of foil backed insulation on top of my scrog screen I'm not using at the moment, had a plug hole and PVC pipe, covered in PVC sheet. Then I lent on it and collapsed it before I fixed the legs property. It was kinda funny in a shot yourself in the foot kind of way...

I was correct, the Afghan is a male and was a waste of time.

Just F--k, it was such a well formed plant. Oh well, shit happens, so it's time to stop the tears and restart my grow! bongsmilie

Planted my Black Widows, regular seed, Mr. Nice Seeds does not do this in feminized seed. Planted 5 of them and hoping for at least two females. Has anyone grown this strain or know of the average male to female ratio of this seed.
I placed the seeds in a jar of water for about 20 hours and planted them directly into two gallon Perlite/Coco 65/35, I will water lightly using a mister till the seed pop's the surface. This is the first time I have gone straight to the final grow bucket without transplanting. Have heard good things about it, we shall see! Anyone used this method before? I would liike to hear from you!

I flushed the buckets with 5.85 ph/77 degrees F rain water, I added 1.5 tsp of GH Rapid Start and 2 tsp of Cal/Mag to the 5 gallons of water I used. This was done twice, the final time I drained the buckets completely and refilled with the same water I used to flush to a 30+% runoff. I will replace this water every three to four days to prevent spoilage. I think the tap root should reach the rez in 4 to 6 days then I will begin watering every two days to keep fresh aerated nutes in the rez.

Bucket and Screen, note flush hole at the base of the bucket.

Screen covering both the flush hole and the upper drain hole

Bucket with the stopper installed in the flush hole. The course Perlite is just even with the bottom of drain hole.

Buckets ready for the 65/35 Perlite/Coco.
20141223_113204.jpg

I fill to three inches below the rim of the bucket, after the plant begins to grow I will add two inches of Coco to the buckets, this will hold the Perlite in place and help hold moisture in the root zone.
20141223_173045.jpg

Starting under two of the four T5 bulbs. Hoping the mild heat from the lamp will help with germination.
