Winterizing bho

first time using the thermos, but i think i should have definitely done 2 runs with the trim, the leftover i've put down the toilet has left a thin film of erl! the process was a lot easier than filling the tube over and over though that's for sure. this method would be great for broken down popcorn.

Interesting reading here. Thanks. I have a question..

Can a mixture of 85% Ethanol/15% Methanol be used for the Winterization process for making shatter? I read somewhere on another forum that Methanol (which can be damaging to the optic nerve if consumed regularly) can be used in place of Ethanol. Everclear , which would be my first choice ..is very difficult to get in my area without great expense..so I have been looking elsewhere and found the above described Alcohol mixture at 85% Ethanol-15% Methanol. Opinions?

Im going to say consumption of resulting product would be iffy like an acetone extraction, best washed with something clean like everclear or imho skip winterization. I also worry about what else is in there or is this lab grade?

According to the Material Safety Data Sheet there are only 2 ingredients: Ethyl Alcohol 75-95 Wt % Methyl Alcohol 5-10 Wt % . I'm just curious as I mentioned in my previous post..that someone on another forum had indicated that Methanol worked especially well for winterization. They had also mentioned that Methanol was the most explosive and polar of the alcohols used and the real key to its safe use was in the frozen extraction and subsequent purging. I'm hoping to get some further insight regarding the above mixtures potential for the process.

Methanol is more polar that Isopropanol or Ethanol, so does the best job of winterizing, but has obvious health issues requiring close attention to detail when purging. I personally still use Ethanol, because it has less of those health issues and it doesn't scare as many people, when they hear you used it to make their medications.

A subtle difference, but I also prefer the taste of an Ethanol winterization more, even after purging. It is a smoother, rounder taste.

In a 95/5% mixture, the differences would be much less and it most certainly would work for the process. I would also rather work with it, than a mixture also containing an embittering agent or Isopropyl, which is closer to the boiling point of Ethanol.

I personally wouldnt use methanol unless i was absolutely sure i could remove all of it, ie vac pump or vac oven.

oh and f**k you fade...

you can answer bakasan but not me, i see how it is, i thought we were cool man......
dude..... I had to go 4 pages back just to figure out where that came from. Most people going for shatter don't take there closed loop to the point of wax where you'd obviously have to scrape, they leave tane so it soups and pours then they move onto to the vac and accept the elevated risk factor. Fade never shows slabs and I just assume from the history of post it's due to a credit card or some other appropriate device used to scrape a stainless surface. Homie's on 3+ forum's at once trying to scan for everytime someone shines the dab signal, everyone get's no reply's in life and it aint personal. We HIGH!

I tried to process your post. I sincerely gave it the college try. That said I couldn't make sense out of this on any level. Perhaps it's just me. :(

i know I'm just kinda butting and changing the subject but can you take already made BHO (thats been sitting around unvacpurged for days) and winterize that?
