Why do people pick on the noobie's ???

I'm a noob to the site (who gives a fuck, means nothing), but definately not a noob to growing. I'm here only for the purpose of sharing the love of the plant, and helping people out with my knowledge of growing. You will never see me talking down to someone just because they are trying to learn, regardless of how stupid the question might have been. I do agree that its kinda aggravating when someone who doesn't know what their talking about try's to give advice to someone though.

"How hard is it to do a fucking search?"
Not hard at all. Getting any results to show up that have a glimmer of relevance to the search string is actually impossible. Before you tell noobs to visit the search page, you may want to try it yourself once in a while. In that regard, this site is fucked. A MOUNTAIN of great information that is completely unretrievable.
The FAQs on the other hand are great. Do the new folks a favor and send them to the appropriate FAQ instead of the search page.
To the OP, I grew my first herb in the hills of San Diego county back in 90. But when I picked it up again I chose to go hydro. I found this site with questions in hand and every yield has gotten bigger and better. The RIU community has some fantastic people, and some professional grade assholes. Just like the real world. So take the chip off your shoulder and learn to seperate fertilizer from bullshit..

just search google and it pulls up riu hits....i don't bother with the site search feature as it didn't work the first five or twenty times i tried it.

BTW telling someone HOW to search might help, or where, or what to call it.

The only trick I have found is to NOT search all forums. Whittle it down to just the relevant forum and you have a much better chance of getting at least SOME relevant results. It misses alot this way though.

I believe some people back then (70's) were using Mercury Vap's actually. If I remember right it was pretty much a modified street lamp. :leaf:
Started in the 70's actually climbed a pole and took a street light at 3am, put it up in a basement that I had chipped out the concrete floor to get to soil, cut a hole in the wall from inside to wire the light in before the meter (you could do that back then) and nailed one of those sprinkler hoses (flat with lots of little holes) to the rafters, grew bagseed :bigjoint: but actually back then Columbian bag seed was not bad. That set up did me very well for a bit over 2 years

I try very hard not to get upset at noob's always askin the same questions but admit it does bother me at times, But I love helpin for me it is entertaining

Sounds like a great 70's indoor grow IMHO.

I don't mind answering something that has been already stated 1,000 times. It's when a "noob" (and no I don't just mean to this site..but growing in general) comes around and has the attitude that the established RIU members owe them something.

"Give me answers so I can lots of weedz :dunce:. Otherwise you suck :finger:."

Yes, we were all new to growing at one time. The difference being some of us actually have a passion for it. We ENJOY the whole process from planting seeds/taking cuttings to trimming/curing and packing that first bowl of a successful grow.

Other people just want to get through it without caring to learn a damn thing from the process and want all the answers handed to them.

Sad thing about growing though, I could have the same setup as someone else, be growing the same strain (even taken from the same mother plant)...but if that other person hasn't at least done some research on their own..well... we already know what would happen.

It's pretty much how a person goes about asking a question that determines if I am going to answer it or not. :leaf:

and for SOME of the noobs thats how it is. i have seen the same shit being asked over and over on here. not just here but on icmag, and even back in the day of overgrow.com. how fucking hard is it to do a search. AND IT BOTHERS ME TO KNOW END WHEN NOOBS GIVE ANOTHER NOOB WRONG ASS ADVICE AND FOR THAT NOOB TO ACT LIKE HE KNOWS WHATS UP. im 10 years deep in this shit and counting.
10 years, thats it. your still in diapers holmes.I have worked in green houses and have been around plants for over 25 years now and i still have alot to learn. just because someone has 7100+ posts does not make them an expert.if you cant handle noob questions maybe you should stay out of that forum. ya i know we post all over the place and its hard not to see dumb questions, but it doesn't mean you have to answer them all rude like your jonny buzz rocket.

I find the eaiest way to search RIU is open google, enter what I'm looking for and type rollitup at the end and it brings up a billion threads from this site. I find the search function on this site very hit and miss and that is probably why many newbs just post threads instead of trying to search for hours for an answer. And people who bitch about newb questions in the newb central section should give their head a shake, that's what it is there for, for newbs. Stick to the advanced sections if you don't like it. If you don't have anything constructive to add to a thread, just skip it. We are all here for the same purpose!
