i told me kids right from the get go what me and my wife do but we also told him that if he loves mommy and daddy he cant tell his friends about this or we will get in big trouble... tommy is now 13 years old and knows what weed is never got busted once. IMO not telling your kid can get you into alot more shit they like to snoop and they prolly wont tell you about it if they do stumble upon it instead they will tell their best friend. and or possibly show them, my oldest did this because we thought we could hide a grow op from a 8 year old.

Just tell them its a sex aid. The last thing any teenager wants to look at/think about is their parents having sex! :)

Lol....yeah thats what you do.......before you setup your gear in there have a lock on it but leave it unlocked..... buy a few dildos...maybe one of those water squirting buttplugs, 4 or 5 kinds of lube, some edible panties and a blow up sheep and let them snoop.....as soon as they see that they will NEVER want to look in there again

My kid knows, and could not care less about seeing it and wants nothing to do with weed even though many of her friends and over half of the high school including the kids you would never guess... a lot of these kids are jesus freaks, argue against Evolution and pray on campus...I blame the church:razz: there is no mystery or excitement with weed for my daughter, so it becomes boring and stupid (her mother being a pharma drug addicted whore is also a deterrence)

Now contrast this with my son...he lived with me only from 13-14. I quit when he moved in for about a year (I do not recommend this!) but eventually started...I waited until the evening and would smoke one or two tokes in my bathroom and kept everything locked up. After my son moved back with his mom, she told me that he had been smoking weed with a friend for a few months before moving back to Texas...Then I had the talk with my daughter (I smoked openly before her brother moved in...it was as natural as water to drink) telling her that it was important for us to be honest with each other and that I felt like it was dishonest for me to hide my smoking. She told me she thought I was smoking anyway because she can tell...sometimes I was not angry. Also...she and her brother had suspected I was smoking before, knew why there was a lock on the cabinet and what was in there.

Moral of the story...don't try to fool your kids. kids minds are sharp and clear...we are on the slow march towards our second childhood;)

So you do not have to tell your kids anything...they WILL find out. You have the opportunity to shape their opinion...or you could let the rest of their support system do it for you (friends, teachers, grand parents etc.)

4 or 5 kinds of lube, some edible panties and a blow up sheep and let them snoop.....
HeHeHe...although the potential for a lifetime of therapy comes with this...I believe it would be an effective deterrent:lol:

Just play "Surrender" by Cheap Trick for the kids and they'll be cool.

Surrender

Mother told me, yes, she told me I'd meet girls like you.
She also told me, "Stay away, you'll never know what you'll catch."
Just the other day I heard a soldier's falling off some Indonesian junk that's going round.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Father says, "Your mother's right, she's really up on things."
"Before we married, Mommy served in the WACS in the Philippines."
Now, I had heard the WACS recruited old maids for the war.
But mommy isn't one of those, I've known her all these years.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Whatever happened to all this season's losers of the year?
Ev'ry time I got to thinking, where'd they disappear?
When I woke up, Mom and Dad are rolling on the couch.
Rolling numbers, rock and rolling, got my Kiss records out.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Away.
Away.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Yeah Duke, they WILL find out (if they don't already know and just don't know whether or not to bring it up). I would like to initiate it though. I just feel that would make me sleep better at night knowing that the information they are using to make decisions is coming from ME !!!
And yes, I agree, as effective as the cabinet full of whips and chains may be, the therapy would likely be more costly than if they saw what was really in there :)

I mentioned your situation to my daughter and she reminded me of something...She used to tell lots of little stupid and annoying lies (I think it is a girl thing) and I would often say something like "I don't lie to you" and she said she was just waiting for me to say something like that again so she could bust me on smoking pot and hiding it. The whole situation helped our trust and probably helped her to tell the truth, when it is easier to just make up some ridiculous sounding crap and hope for the best...which rarely works.
Anyway...she tells the truth now and hates liars.

Awesome advice Duke! I like it. If we could get rid of liars, we would have a much better world. Without used car salesmen! (NO OFFENSE, JUST A JOKE):-P

Good luck!:leaf:

That was hilarious! Yea, smoking a little amount was not enough for my "condition"...buying from the dude on the street meant I had to limit my consumption for financial reasons. MMJ changed that and allowed me to temper my assholeness...I spend the same as before, only now on electricity, but as long as the spider mites stay away...I can smoke all I want..."staying ahead of my symptoms" Dr. Jimenez used to call it...

Unless you are in an MMJ state, have your rec, and make it inaccessable to them. Doesn't mean you have to lie to them or not show them, just make it difficult to access.

except that darkrooms are blacked out use red lights and your tent has a few hundred watts worth of power turning you tent into a minuture version of the sun

not to mention if you live in an apartment you need to come up with some more snazy when the fire inspectors come around for their yearly inspection of the safety system & sprinklers
1 nobody except for college dorm dwellers have sprinkler systems

2 the question was what to tell the kids, not how to hide from "fire inspectors" (that don't really exist - "yearly inspections"... what?)

3 your grow tent should be lightproof

I lived in an apartment building for 5 years here in Ontario. There was a fire inspector around every spring to ensure there were functioning CO and smoke detectors.
