1) your outdoor is different than my outdoor, so the geographical location matters for outdoor. For me, the season is so short you would have to choose to veg or flower in the summer.

2) I grew in my pantry, 9oz 4plant dwc, and there was dog hair everywhere. And I vacuum all day :joint: So imagine what the outside world would blow over your crops. Yuck. Dust mud chemicals dust sand hair dust.
And that got me thinking, my next grow I will use a carbon filter for air going in to the tent, positive pressure, so nothing gets on my smoke. It will be so clean.

After saying though what I said, I do wish I could use the SUN with it’s free and powerful FREE light. The best would be a green house with lights, and automatic blinds that completely darken it, and it’s conected to my house and the heat from the dryer, naturalgas co2, house exhaust goes into the green house, and when the sun isn’t out you turn the lights on. With air purified and tropical humidity.

Hey DoubleJJ, need an apprentice?

Amazing scale and results you have going. I guess maybe a lifetime of experience growing and "all-in" commitment makes that possible.

My state just got going on "Adult Recreational Use" legalization (passed in 2016 but legislature took over 3 years to figure out details). Local shop owner told me last week that there only 8 rec. growers (lots of med. growers but none of that can be sold as rec.) and several of them seemed "flaky" to him. It makes me think about the possibilities (I have 10 acres here at my place). Your setup is inspiring. Trying to figure out the financial side to see if this is worth pursuing (I just finished my first ever grow this year outdoors/organic--definitely some mistakes and learning happened but happy to report it was a successful harvest and everything ended up thriving.)

As far as outdoor vs. indoor and quality, I've certainly heard that weed grown/harvested/processed properly outdoors can outshine indoor at least as far as terpene intensity/complexity, bud size, yield, and potency. Makes sense since sunlight is superior to even the best grow light. Don't get me wrong, indoor bud can be great, but I believe the potential might be a bit higher for outdoor. Be interesting to compare with a more scientific approach and data though (TCH content, terpenes, etc.).

It appears the greenhouse plants are much bigger than the full sun plants.

Is that because you use bigger pots in the greenhouse? and/or does the greenhouse provide additional benefits/advantages over the full sun

cheers
all of the above. These plants are all started indoors offsite and planted as early as possible and sometimes we run lights to keep them from flowering early. The greenhouses provide a perfect environment for them to flourish. Some strains can be monsters.

You should absolutely get it going. Borrow the money if you have too, I guarantee you will make $$. 30x60 greenhouse kit was around $10k. With soil and pots your prob looking at another $10k. Incidentals another $5k. Around $25k will get you in the game. These light dep greenhouses should produce 100-125lbs at harvest, with 2 crops per year....you can do the math. I split everything with my crew 50/50 and they bust ass for it. I don't live on my farm the crew does.

2 crops per year? How would I do that in New England climate? Run a heater in the greenhouse?

100+ lbs. harvest per greenhouse? Sweet...and to think I did 10 lbs. in my little garden this year and was all proud of myself.

Situation here is weird now. First the former governor kept vetoing every bill the legislature presented because he was shilling for big pharma philosophically opposed to legalization--even though the citizens passed a referendum saying they wanted it. Then new gov. voted in but leg. just went round and round in circles figuring out details. Rollout was supposed to be spring but pandemic threw all that into disarray so instead that happened just last month. Shops opening but nowhere near enough licensed growers to supply yet. Pretty much chaos at this point.

The crew I'm sure is key. Have to figure that piece out. Or I can start slow and scale up later maybe.

Interesting possibilities.

I'd only want to do this if I can make it work using organic methods and taking the time to dry/cure properly so product is top-rate. Possible to take the time for that and still make the numbers work?

We're kind of drifting off the o.p.'s original question--sorry about that. Just your amazing photos sparked my imagination.

What is your thought on outdoor vs. indoor?

Indoor requires to much electricity. We grow off grid and only run generators as needed. You can certainly focus on organics if you wish but i can tell you that commercially they won't pay extra for it. Better to grow a few plants organically for yourself and grow the rest for market.
What are the fines or penalties for growing without approval? Here in our county in NorCal it's only a code violation for growing over your legal limit and it's "complaint driven" enforcement, so many here don't even bother with permits and just roll the dice. If you get caught you pay a fine,. but I don't know anyone who has ever been raided. Some of my neighbors have 5-6-7 large greenhouses....

The 1st thing I said was that doesn’t look like a million dollar construction. I read online that it can easily cost a million dollars for a green house I don’t know that the hell they were talking about

I’ve done about 10 indoor grows and 4 summer outdoor grows here in SoCal. Wondering what my fellow growers think about indoor vs outdoor. Some swear that outdoor can be more potent; does anybody have any data on that?

Ive grown Purple punch indoor and outdoor from same seed bank this past year, and have done same with Cookies and Sour D in the past, and here are my observations.

Indoor requires more work, but outdoor also requires daily attention due to bugs, mold. Both my Purple Punch plants were monsters. Indoor, it was a 4’ tall beast in a 3 g pot under 600w from wall LED lights, producing 4 oz of colorful, sweet tasting bud. Outdoor, I planted in a 10 fabric pot and got 21 oz of huge, dense buds. In terms of taste and potency, both very similar. But main difference was the much bigger outdoor buds- like golf balls! With outdoor here in SoCal, where night temps rarely drop below 60’s in summer, I have not gotten any purple hues, even with Purp Punch, Granddaddy Purps, Cookies. It is temperature that causes color.

Best part of outdoor is the yield, huge buds and a similar level of potency as indoor. Indoor can give that more crystal coated look and more color, but is the weed better?

I look forward to both indoor and outdoor grows. What are thoughts about merits of each and the quality of the weed?

Bag appeal matters.. Indoor is less leafy as well. Ive grown 3 maybe 4 strains that could pass for indoors on looks.
