Thoughts on Indoor vs Outdoor Quality

No disrespect dude, and I certainly do feel for people who have their prime lovingly tended cannabis grows messed with by cross-pollination ...

But hemp ain't just for CBD.

Are you aware that the drive to have 'Marijuana' illegalised was supported by Du Pont lobbying in the US.

His company invented nylon, and they wanted to snuff out the Hemp fibre market by demonising all Cannabis commercial cultivation.

( in fact, the term Marijuana was chosen to scaremonger in the eyes of the public by creating a mental association with "The Mexicans" - and it is still is the legal term in the US penal code )

Hemp fibre has a huge future role to play in a greener and more sustainable future by getting us away from plastics and man-made non-biodegradable synthetics.

Chances are that the 'first settlers' in the US arrived in ships that had sails made from hemp, rope made from hemp, hemp seed oil lamps and a host of other natural products.

All of those industries and farmers were shut down under the "illegal drug" legislation, and replaced by industrialized factories that ingrained our world dependence on oil based products, and created a demand for urban slaves working for The Man.
I like hemp. And nylon. Yeah the DuPont story has been around since the beginning.

Times change, cannabis is a very valuable crop and heck grow hemp 5000 miles away somewhere send it here. But man i dont want outdoor grows killed by hemp. We dont need it like we did back in the early days.

Oh ... and in South Africa ... we had a similar situation.

'Dagga' was chosen as the term used in (White majority) newspapers for precisely the same reason.

It was the 'local native' term and created a similar fear amongst the White ruling class.

It's pronounced in a very guttral way ... the double 'gg' sounds like you are clearing a frog in your throat.

The same with 'marijuana' ... it is pronounced with a 'foreign' accent.

An excellent - if insidious - choice if you want to put the fear of God into conservative voters.
I could be wrong, but think that is why we try to call it cannabis now.

Yup, indeed.

And it's the proper botanical name and classification.

Cannabis (/ˈkænəbɪs/)[2] is a genus of flowering plants in the family Cannabaceae. The number of species within the genus is disputed. Three species may be recognized: Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, and Cannabis ruderalis.
Give the plant some respect.

Never heard of that fabric. Is it a specific product?
I'm not sure if my plants got pollinated (lightly) by a fairly distant neighbour, a hemp farm, or one of the many massive illegal grows that got busted this year.
I'm testing one of the seeds right now, so I'm kinda hoping it's from a male in one of the illegal grows, or from the legal outdoor rec grow op, rather than hemp. Unseeded weed would be better though. I liked to make my own crosses when I grew indoors, so having control over the pollination of my plants outdoors would be best.
It's just weed barrier/ landscape fabric. We used heavy guage chicken wire, bugscreen and that fabric. It blocked the wind but still allowed adequate airflow. I also would spray soap and neem oil on the fabric from the outside, as a bug repellent. I believe the residue from that spraying probably helped stop the pollen too.

It also helps block the view of curious onlookers.

I’ve done about 10 indoor grows and 4 summer outdoor grows here in SoCal. Wondering what my fellow growers think about indoor vs outdoor. Some swear that outdoor can be more potent; does anybody have any data on that?

Ive grown Purple punch indoor and outdoor from same seed bank this past year, and have done same with Cookies and Sour D in the past, and here are my observations.

Indoor requires more work, but outdoor also requires daily attention due to bugs, mold. Both my Purple Punch plants were monsters. Indoor, it was a 4’ tall beast in a 3 g pot under 600w from wall LED lights, producing 4 oz of colorful, sweet tasting bud. Outdoor, I planted in a 10 fabric pot and got 21 oz of huge, dense buds. In terms of taste and potency, both very similar. But main difference was the much bigger outdoor buds- like golf balls! With outdoor here in SoCal, where night temps rarely drop below 60’s in summer, I have not gotten any purple hues, even with Purp Punch, Granddaddy Purps, Cookies. It is temperature that causes color.

Best part of outdoor is the yield, huge buds and a similar level of potency as indoor. Indoor can give that more crystal coated look and more color, but is the weed better?

I look forward to both indoor and outdoor grows. What are thoughts about merits of each and the quality of the weed?

A lot of the guys here in my state got seeds in their buds this year from hemp being grown nearby. Nearby I mean like 10-15 miles away.

I accidentally deleted my last post lol and don’t want to type it in again lol. Ugh I’ll make this short. First off, HI. Great grows. It looks so peaceful in your tent setup you got going. I’d never make it off that couch!

Do you use any supps on your plants, like Aloe?
Plants grow healthier, larger and greener due to the plants ability to better use the UV rays from the sun allowing photosynthesis to take place more efficiently.
Or coconut powder is another good one. You mix your own soil? You cross any strains yourself? Have you ever ran Trinity? Black Dog is a great hardy strain that produces big time. You run any Haze strains?

What lights are those in your clone room? I like detail.
I know I’m just yelling from the cheap seats here, so I understand if you don’t feel like answering.
Have a good night!

Someone mentioned genetic. Good point. Sun also has the UV innit. Oh wait. The sun is the UV. The giant Halide sob.

If you compare both loads of work they are about equivalent if you want primo.

Outdoor dank I say are plants that make it passed the elements and really show their true colors. Socal can survive a lot of genetics outdoor. Even in December. Around this time gotta watch the wind though that will blow a wet pot of colas over time and time again.

Do an run for test. Two clones man. One outdoor one indoor. But make sure you give them both mad love. Wash the outdoor after you chop in 5 gallons, shake dry and hang that shit until u notice it's dry to touch then hang cure it with ur indoor but label it. Smoke a bud from both off the branch and u tell us what u think.

edit* washing is more tech than I just said it there but you can research diff methods. I use Baking soda or soda ash whatever I have at the time + lemon juice. Never liked usng hydrogen peroxide

Many times outdoor that tastes bad u are burning and smoking dust :eyesmoke: :peace:
Yes, that is what I have tried to do, but with seed. I also wash my outdoor buds- it makes a big difference. My indoor harvests seem to have more intense terrines and aromas, while outdoor gets huge dense buds and seems similar in potency, but where I live I have not been able to get color out of typically colorful strains. And while the trichomes are the same if not bigger on outdoor buds, indoor cures to that more frosty look. Yield is the big difference. I’ve gotten 20-40 oz of tight bud in 10-15 gallon pots outdoors...

And to those who say they have never had outdoor bud that was any good: you guys need to get out more, quit being weed snobs, or both.

Properly Grown outdoor bud of great genetics and equally great growers knowledge, light derived during mid summer. With proper soil setup's,
Will straight up yeild the most potent buds... I dare any to try it and say otherwise!!.. it's not difficult to do either. Many a great outdoor growers around RIU.. I don't claim to be kick ass, but some folks grow fuckin trees o MJ.

Nobody disputes the outdoor yields over indoor.. Its that they are leafier and darker.
