Those Damned Intolerant Liberals

Violence most certainly has defeated past manifestations.

When has non-violence worked against them?

Hitler would have mowed down peace marchers. Same with current day neo-nazis -- if they thought they could get away with it. Come to think of it, with the exception of a few fall guys, they did get away with murder.
So democracy and the rule of law works.

Thanks for your admission.

That young man is in jail for a long time for running over protesters.
You didn't answer my question. Fascism glorifies violence and justifies it completely differently than we do with our rule of law. Those goons in Portland a few weeks ago are similar to other fascists in the past in this regard.

When has peace marches and non-violence ever stopped fascists?

Just spoke with a couple American truckers. Asked them what they thought of the goings on with Trump.

First guy said if Clinton was in office they wouldn’t have any guns, and that if his daughter ever touched his guns he would give her a serious beating. I said maybe that would stop some school shootings and save kids lives.

Second guy said it’s Obama and Clinton, those dam liberals, that are the cause of all this. Said they promote racism and want the unrest and violence and want the US to be like a third world country.

I forgot to ask the one guy why would an African-American man, especially the President, promote racism?

Both said they’re voting Trump in the midterm.

Did violence defeat Nazism as an idea? No it didn't, because there are still Nazi's.

You can't defeat an idea using violence. You have to defeat an idea using a better idea.

So it's pointless to use violence against Nazis, as you said, they will simply regroup and reform again at a later period. So if that's your goal, to stop today's Nazis and dismiss tomorrows, sure, mission accomplished. But then what about the Nazis that form in the future because your violent approach today didn't actually solve the underlying problem of why Nazis actually exist in the first place?

I think Vox did an article on how to change a white supremacist mind. They interviewed lots of former KKK types that have rejected that ideology. Hatred and violence strengthens the racist attitude. Only empathy for the individuals issues in life and reasoned discussion that guided the racist to the conclusion of their anger being misplaced or misdirected led to change.

That's exactly right

The extremists here would have you believe there is no way to change their minds, they are a lost cause. Instead, they promote vitriol and hate as their way to try to turn congress blue when it's been proven by multiple independent studies to fail, and in the end, be much more detrimental to the Democratic/progressive cause than if they did no promoting at all.

They're trying to benefit the Republican party by contrasting such an extreme position. By promoting violence and hate, Independents are turned off, thus ensuring a Republican advantage
