Fascism came to town

At the town hall that was broadcast on CNN, the face of modern day fascism was on full display.

The litany of bald faced lies, lies that even his ardent supporters would agree are lies was only the beginning of the fascist parade.

Election denial, lies about Jan 6, the woman who proved he battered her in a court of law, calling the moderator a "nasty woman" for doing her utmost to slow his roll of non-stop falsehoods. It went on for what? An hour or an hour and a half? Every claim the 2020 Hitler made last night was at best ruled "misleading" and usually was called either untrue or false.

But that's just the beginning of this story. What came to town last night was his crowd of supporters. The men and women in the audience were the ones who normalized Trump's brand of fascism. They cheered misogyny. They cheered threats to democracy. They cheered violent rhetoric.

Last night, dogs of US fascism's war against liberals were set loose. His angry denials of truth and reason were their call for action. His singling out the officer who shot Ashley Babbitt as a black thug was classic fascism. Never mind that at the moment she was shot, officers and congressional staff were holed up in the room and she was trying to lead a crowd into that room with murderous intent. Fascism thrives on false grievances like that. Calling the officer a Black thug put racist punctuation on that grievance.

CNN and US media have a problem that is exactly the same Germany faced in the 1920's and early '30's. Trump has an active following and he can't be silenced. By mid-summer of 2024, Trump will be the candidate of the Republican Party for US President. Before then, he will have a free voice during the primary and we've heard what he intends to preach. His followers will become more and more violent at the election gets closer. Trump resonates with those people like no other politician in the modern era. We don't know how to deal with him.

But that's not the whole story. The right wing media, who don't care about protecting the free speech that let's them poison discourse in the US. Their story today isn't about Trump's lies or what Trump even said. Their story is:

Trump owned the libs.
Critics railed against the liberal network for platforming the GOP frontrunner

Liberals turned against CNN for hosting a town hall featuring former President Trump.

Trump, who remains the frontrunner in the 2024 Republican primary, sparred with CNN's Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday over his ongoing claim that the 2020 presidential election was "rigged," his involvement on Jan. 6 and the recent verdict that found him liable for defamation and battery against his accuser E. Jean Carroll, who he continued railing against to the amusement of some of his supporters in the audience.

"CNN should be ashamed of themselves," Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., reacted on Twitter. "They have lost total control of this ‘town hall’ to again be manipulated into platforming election disinformation, defenses of Jan 6th, and a public attack on a sexual abuse victim. The audience is cheering him on and laughing at the host.

Seriously. Fox chose to report Trump owning the libs over substance.

So, this sets the tone for the 2024 election. Fascism is afoot. It's taken root in several states and the fascist in chief has a pulpit handed to him by the Republican Party.

i can't believe CNN let him be like that on the channel

been catch clips this mornin on twitter....OMFG

He's the leading candidate for the Republican Party. It was a freaking clown show and I too haven't been able to stomach more than a minute or so before cursing and switching him off. Do they have to report on him and give him air time? Apparently, they think so.

think the only reason why they had him on, is because he is the leading candidate (sad to think)

from the clips i've been seeing i can even bring myself to listen all the way through, and there small clips too....

however it did give biden some ammo against him........this was produced right after the townhall

And CNN

I think the reason is money. trump was truthful about one thing, that shit show helped CNN’s ratings.
that would be prolly the only reason......i just can't wrap my head around this....why would CNN (conservative news network) bring a now known sex predator to sit next to a moderator who is woman btw to have him spew out his bullshit, why? There was even call out for CNN not to do this and they still did it. Every clip i've come across is utter lies and bullshit......i just don't get it...smh

I'm sure Jack was watching, but he doesn't need more evidence, he needs to act and I sure as shit hope someone has a plan in that regard because it is well past time somebody acted on the evidence of his many crimes. There are over 540 days to go before the election and I can't see him not being indicted and even tried for some of his crimes by either the republican primaries or the election. We already have a couple of years on the clock over most of them. All I can say is I hope he wins the nomination from his prison cell and leaves the GOP high and dry during the general election or turns on the republicans for disloyalty if he loses the nomination. The point is to keep him out of power and remove the republicans from any power they hold so laws can be made to deal with the fascist problem. The republicans either cleanse themselves of shit or they die, and it will take a long time for them to clean up their act since they are poisoned from root to tip. The base drives the party, and the base has become base, all the good people left long ago.

To fill the crowd with trump supporters was disgraceful. That wasn’t news, that was theatre, really bad theatre.

If the host challenged Trump too much, he would have set the crowd on her and they would have torn her apart, these people had no moral compass at all and were capable of anything. If he can make them believe absurdities, then he can make them commit atrocities and did already. Allowing him to hand pick the audience was the only way they could get him to participate, they begged him and did it for ratings. They shamed themselves doing it, but I'm not sure the CEO of CNN is familiar with the emotion of shame, he used the host to wipe his ass with.

Hayes on Trump town hall: A seditious candidate can't be debated, only defeated

26,810 views May 11, 2023 #msnbc #trump #cnn
"Trump is not actually running for a second term—he is running for a forever term," says Chris Hayes. "The problem with giving that man a stage and an audience...is that that view—"I should rule"—is not a view that can be debated."

Trump's incriminating statements at CNN town hall WILL be used against him at trial

2,935 views May 11, 2023 #TeamJustice
CNN decided to give Donald Trump a microphone and a platform to spout his endless lies. During the course of the town hall meeting, Donald Trump gave prosecutors and plaintiffs directly incriminating evidence that undoubtedly will be used against him in future prosecutions. Here's how.
