The Official Canna Coco & Nutrients Thread

Yeah i read that if you water even one time in coco without the specific nutes you could wash away vital parts in the coco that you need to keep a stable ph. Oh and a very important tip is to make sure your using tap water with a ppm around 200..Cana coco nutes are made up for a water of this level. They are hoping that most of the 200ppm is Cal/mg so your plants get cal/mg through your water not your nutes. If you use ro water or rain water make sure you invest in some cal/mg this way your plants will love you. Oh and make sure if your using tap water to let it stay out for atleast a day (or use an airstone in res. to speed this process up).

Just figured i would add that considering it took me a while to figure it out...

thanks bammer mate,

This is all helpful stuff. You are right though meg, coco is not for people who want easy maintenence. But i guess if i had started off with the right nutes there wouldnt be so many problems right now. The ph has been all over the place and even went up to 8 at one point! But managed to get it down to 6.8 now which im hoping will be ok to finish the grow. Well the plants are looking healthier anyway. My water is at 0.2 EC so im assuming thats what canna believes to be cal mag? Maybe adding cal mag to this 0.2EC would be overkill then if the water is already 0.2 of calmag, but how can we be sure its cal&mag in the water?

I have been watering at 0.2EC calmag (bringing water up to 0.4EC) and then adding A&B @1.0EC (Bringing final solution up to 1.4EC). G13 has been taking a bit more @1.5EC. Im hoping to get them up a bit more than this close to flowering

To be honest if i was doing another grow in coco i would want to look into pre soaking the soil with something to make sure there are nutes there already for the plants, then feeding with coco nutes and cal mag every water. This way im sure i could make life a LOT easier!

Flushed twice already which isnt easy when youre working in such a small space :-o All due to newb mistakes, but im learning... Slowly!

In coco you wont get the results you want with a ph of 6.5, your plants will still grow but the ph recommended by canna is 5.2-6.2 so stay in that range and you should be good. I shoot for middle (5.8ish) so i cant go wrong

Try bringing that up to 0.5 pr 250 300 ppm with cal/mag then add your nutes as usual. you need to get your PH down to 5.5-5.8!!!
Thats the problem, im watering with phd water at 5.7ph and the ph isnt coming down any. Any ideas how to bring this down? Ive flushed twice already with phd water

hi every one on this thread and thanks for answerin so many of my Q already as this is my 1st attempt

right lets get started my grow space is 70x110cm so pretty narrow
i have a 600w hps light
4" tt duct fan an carbon filter
fan temp controler
temp & humi gage
desk fan
4 x 11L pots and saucers
canna A&B, rhiz, cannaz, PK13/14, boost
cal max
ph down
ph tester kit
50L bag of canna coco pro and i have some clay pepples i plan to put about 2" in the bottom of my pots and then the rest pure coco pro, im goin to hand water using the run to waste method.

heres a thew Q's

how many plants would you do in my space?
do i need to use nutes the first time i water with pro ive read you dont as its buffed ( i dont like the idea of not feedin we nutes for 1-2 wk as thats my full veg cycle) or am i alright we a weak nutes solution like 2-3ml/4L A&B and 5-10ml/4L of rhiz or am i ok we just ph'd water with pro?

does any one else use pro who could help?

Heres some info on canna coco pro as i ant seen much in this thread canna say;

"CANNA Coco Professional Plus is a pure, organic product with a homogeneous structure and has had a full buffering, eliminating the side effects of growing on coir"

"CANNA’s buffering process allows us to ‘pre-program’ the medium to a certain age. This ensures you get the same consistent, high quality material time after time. Ready for optimal use straight away."

"Watering
Manually:
- Give water every day using special coco fertiliser.
Pot size: 4 litres minimum.
- Make sure the pots used are sufficiently large if it’s not possible to give water every day.
Automatically:
- Feed 4-6 times a day using special coco fertiliser.
Use:
Approximately 5 litres of nutrient solution per m2 per day (for mature plants). For larger plants use pots of at least 5 litres; the larger the pot the more constant the root environment will be. Ensure that there is sufficient drainage (holes) and possibly use a layer of clay pebbles (CANNA Clay Pebbles) in the bottom of the pot to provide air and drainage.
If you use CANNA COCO Professional Plus in combination with the fertilisers from CANNA’s COCO range designed for this purpose, then you are investing in quality and certainty!"

i really dont wana have a bad start with this

also do you think i should use cal max (its pretty much same as cal-mag) alway through my grow at a weak dose im usin tap water i dont no ec as have no tester i jus now its ph 7.5 maybe like 2ml/4L? or should i jus use if i get cal def?

whats the ideal temp to grow in coco? (day & night, veg & flow)

my cutting supplier says they are 3" tall in large rockwool and rooted, will i be alright to put them stright in the 11L pots or will i need smaller and pot up?

im still constructin my grow room and its air tight if i have a inlet duct from outside will my tt fan/filter suck enough air through the inlet for my plants?

so sorry to go on abit but i dont wana mess up this is my first solo grow
please get back to me with any tips or help cheers

NEVER FEED WITH NO NUTES IN COCO!!! If you do then you will wash away the minerals and salts that keep the ph stable. If you have done so already you might want to consider re-potting. As long as your ph is between 5-6 you should be good. If the clones are rooted i would feed 1/4 strength nutes to start and about 5-6ml rhizotonic. Your tap water should supply your plants with cal/mg and i wouldnt worry about adding any until you see a def. (wont happen till flowering if it does) But your tap should be fine. Your plants will grow fine in temps below 90 so just make sure your not above that. Shoot for around 75-80 if you can. From the sound of your set-up you might have temp problems so just keep an eye on that. I dont use pro but it should be about the same just follow their schedule when you get a good root system going. The lady at my local hydro store said 2tsp of a and b per gallon works through the whole grow. Hopefully some of this helped..

From reading previous posts. You must water with nutes every watering? I've been watering with calmag n RO water phed to 5.7. Then next time I feed with RO water, calmag, hygrozyme, and Grow Big. Has my feeding schedule ruined the coco? The PH of my run-off is 5.9.

Well i dont wanna go and say you ruined your coco if your plants are looking good...are you having troubles with your coco right now?

Your feeding all this along with a+b right?

Make sure if your in coco that you have a coco specific nute.

And from what i have read you CAN but not always will ruin the parts of the coco that maintain a stable ph if you water with no nutes or with any chlorinated water...so make sure if your in tap that you let the water sit out about a day or two before mixing and feeding...

and by the way guys this is my first time in coco also...i have done extenisive homework on this stuff but i am in no way an expert...

jberry says

"i use it for almost 3 weeks...at 4 ml per gallon for the most part...

i start using it a few days after the flowers develop a bunch of pistols and stop when the nugs are finished linking together... by week 6 im done using it.

the plant only needs the pk for around 7-10 days, but to make sure i give it on the exact 7-10 days it is needed, i start early and end late... and canna assured me it wouldnt have any ill side effects...

i still pump it up to 6ml per gallon during the 7 days that i suspect to be the pk sweet spot.

it depends on how long your flower time is also... if you had a 12 week flower time, than you wouldnt want to use it until like week 8 or something like that. "

hope thats some help acid it did me thats why i saved the info
