The Official Canna Coco & Nutrients Thread

Hey jberry

Great info in this thread, I have taken the best of everything and plan on doing my first medical grow in Colorado following these guidelines. There were a few answers I did not find or maybe I am just too
:bigjoint:and missed it.

I assume you are using RO water

When watering seedlings, should I add the Cal\Mag at 200ppm for the first few weeks then start it up with A&B around the third week? What about Superthrive?

When flushing at harvest, I will likely do a 7 day flush but am confused as straight RO water will make the medium unusable. What do you leave in your final flush water for the last few days? Do you have a nice clean white ash with no crackling?

I see you state multiple times that you use various micro nutrients throughout the grow. What micro nutes do you use? How much and at what times?

I apologize if you have answered these questions already.

Plus REP... btw those pics are absolutely phenomenal!!!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!

yea it probably did kill them because it comes with an EC of like 1.3 wich is usually too high for seedlings.

hey i got some coco pro plus. is that any good for seedlings? its my first gro. 5 seedlings died i think its becouse i was using canna terra pro. what do youboys think? thanks

I am currently on my first grow and I am using Canna coco with some perlite for a medium and I will be using the complete line of Canna nutrients I have seedlings and clones in the same start both at about 2 weeks and fully rooted under a T5 light and now I am putting them into clear Dixie plastic cups to watch the root growth for a week or 2 then off to transplanting into regular pots. My question is is there a understood as for watering should I be watering and then checking the medium as to how dry they are and then water based on that? Also is there a good starting for amount of water 200ml? Should I start just with water or should I now be mixing in the nutrients? I am also slightly confused when it comes to mixing I was going to use a 55 gallon reservoir but have heard the buts are only good for a week or 2 in there and i do not feel as if I would be using anything close to that much water/nuts mixture every two weeks. I can also send pictures os all of the plants as well as all of the starins if needed. Thanks.

Im so glad i found this thread. I currently have a thread of my own going about my first grow in coco where Nas is actually helping me out right now which i will def rep him for. But i did have a question that maybe both jberry and nas can help me on. I think i over nuted the plants below because i was running a ppm of 550 of a+b but i since flushed and havnt fed again.

I was wondering what ppm feed would you recommend at the stage im at? Currently feeding only rain water..

It also looks like 2 of my lsd plants have the leaves curling down?

And one lsd plant from day one has been taking FOREVER to grow and is currently experiencing new growth but is sooo small compared to the other plants that were seeded the same day....Any reason for this?

Ok pics below are of...

1.Top of all plants...Lsd on left and middle with auto strains on right
2. Big lsd plant compared to the tiny one (planted same day)
3. Big lsd plant with what looks like was heat strain and now has leaves curling down a little
4. Up close of the tiny plant
5. The lsd plant that im pretty sure got nute burn and has leaves curling down
6. Curling leaves of the nute burned lsd
7. Side view of the big lsd

Diagnosis please??? anyone...

Easy Jberry. Hows it goin? Ive got small problems with my plants. Plants are in canna coco and I use canna a&b. I started with bio bizz but tbh i was disappointed and stopped using them. Ive been on canna nutes for almost 2.5 weeks and I still got some problems. Just wondering if its a problem with uptake or maybe I need some new nutes. I messed up a bit with ph coz i didnt calibrate it often enough and I was givin them solutions with too low ph. Now Ive been calibrating it for around 1.5 weeks. I noticed that it helped a lot but there is still a problem. Plants stretch a bit and also have a yellow-green spots on leafs starting from the inner part of leafs and theyre mostly on the higher part of plant. The amnesia lemon is the plant which has that problem. G13 grows much better, she hardly felt any changes from the fluctuations in ph. But she is still a bit lighter between the veins.

Nutes I use are:

Canna A&B: G13 can manage 1.4-1.5, amnesia gets 1.2 coz I overfed it. She got flushed with small EC and it helped a lot but problem said above still exists.
Grandma enggys golden honey F-1. It has got 7% humic extract.
SensiCal Mg Mix - grow. its got 3 0 0 npk, 4% calcium, 0.12 iron, 0.15 manganese. I couldnt find mg amount on the label...
Epsom salts added for one watering around two waterings ago

Im thinkin about getting molasses as well. How should i use it?

heres some photos of the problems experienced with the Plants

Seen here earlier on the amnesia lemon there was discoloration and also leaves where dry to the toutch with some leaves showing a shriveled dry appeareance
DSCN2810.jpg

Discoloration is also on G13 hazes lower leaves, although compared to the other plants she has been very resiliant to fluctuations in PH. The discoloration was earlier believed to be caused by a magnesium deficiancy and to remedy this plants were given epsom salts for one watering. Check out the shape of the middle bottom leaf. It was as if two leaves were fused together. Very strange
G13 30.8 (2).jpg

This is a newer photo of amnesia lemon showering lighter discoloration at the tips ofthe plant
AMNESIA.jpg

Its hard to say whether the plant seems better due to the fact that ph has altered (more accurate) Or whether the epsom salts have made this better, But there still remains discoloration within the leaves (especially newer growth) looking very light green (almost yellow)

I would appreciate all your help with this...

you should use epsom salt(or a calmag concentrate) with every watering. i always get a mag deficiency if i dont use it. about 1-1.5 teaspoons per gallon is enough for to keep my plants happy.

soil grower hear but thats only for 2yrs not that long really lol but why change to coco? have you not gotta keep ontop of ec n ph levels if so why not just grow hydro?
Growing in Coco IS 'hydro'. Any time you use an inert media for your root zone.. it's Hydroponics. If your root zone is in no media, it can be hydroponic, or aeroponic if you are "misting" the bare roots as opposed to exposing them to flow (i.e. NFT)

Thanks rock,

Ive been foliar feeding with epsom salts twice now. Just after lights out. I have also watered them but i was told by someone else on here that watering with epsom salts is not the way to go due to high ec or whatever. I love this forum but sometimes its difficult with so much contradicting info. Difficult for newbs like myself to know whats true.

Heres one for you guys, just picked up some molasses and it states that this stuff has also got magnesium and calcium present. Should i still use cal mag along with this or leave the cal mag out? Watering at 1tsp per liter

Anyone try using AN's Bud Candy with coco and Canna Coco A+B? I was thinking of giving it a shot but wanted to check and see if anyone has any previous experience.

Hey Jberry hows it going,I asked for help on the Cocos growers unite thread a couple of months back with my jillybeans I kept having terrible mag def no matter what I tried and here I am 3rd round battling this mess again so I decided to switch from PBP which is what i'm using to Canna thinking I may have better luck with different nutes so I find this thread and i've been reading for 2 days and I got to the part about adding Cal-mag BEFORE anything else or it will cause lockout I had been adding the Cal-mag after my base nutes and always had to use ph up,I made new nutes adding Cal-mag first then my nutes and ph was steady at 5.8 which leads me to believe this has been my problem the entire time,to think something so simple has caused me soooo many months of frustration if I could I would kick myself in the ass, still switching to Canna though and I am so glad I found this out before I did thank you soooooo much for taking the time to put info out for people like me I seriously could not for the life of me figure out what was wrong and was seriously considering giving up cause it was really starting to affect my mood now I can't wait to start cloning this Grapegod once I order these Canna nutes, sorry for the long post I had to get that off my chest a thousand thanks to you again Jberry : )

Hi meg,

Did your mag def look something similar to the pics i posted on the previous page? Just on first grow and its been a bitch to try and get rid of this. Still have same problem with yellowing of leaves. Tries everything, flushing, epsom salts etc. Just not sure what this could be.

Hello JRTokin it does look like how it first starts always on the lower older leafs first then making it's way up,in between the veins would turn light green and then turn brown and brittle curling up,by the fourth week of flower I didn't have any leafs to speak of,I really think this has been my problem the whole time because I have a grapegod mother I have been growing for 2 months now who started showing the same cal-mag problems and I'm giving everything I'm suppose to give cal-mag using ro water with PBP Grow and Liquid Karma but putting the nutrients in first then enough cal-mag to raise ppm's by 150 and then Liquid Karma after making a new mix using cal-mag first then nutes then Liquid Karma I already see a difference in a couple of days nice new growth and the the leafs that were starting to get effected haven't got any worse usually they would be curled to the sky by now.

Thanks meg. Ive noticed the same problems and tbh im not sure what is causing this. Its not just confined to younger leaves but also older lower down. like you say they are light brown yellow, some with spots some not but the oldest leaves are crispy brown. just hope this def dosnt continue to affect the grow. Tried changing things round a bit, will be upping nutes tomorrow cos since flushing they have still been at 1.1-1.2 ec. Just a bit reluctant to over feed. Man what a balancing act! Coco is so time intensive!

It certainly is especially for newbies like us but I think once we get the hang of it it will smooth sailing,I see you say your using Epsom salts you may want to try a product like Cal-mag or something else similar I have read Epsom isn't good something to do with salt build up or something if I remember right don't quote me I just remember it's not suppose to be good which is why I got the Cal-mag,I would get something like that add it to my water first till I get it up to 150-200 ppm's(if using RO water) then add nutrients, hopefully Jberry or someone else with extensive knowledge with the coco can chime in but doing what I just said has worked for me just wish I knew this 6 months ago
