Hey Frenchy, quick question(s), a friend posted pictures of a batch of my ice wax in the Rize ice wax thread, you recommended pressing the thrichs back together for about 20 mins after they had already been broken down through the microplane process. However, we noticed after trying so on just a small amount, that the color of our product just turned brown from the oily blondes and ambers which we had previously seen. While the flavor and texture were awesome, I would just really like to be able to retain that beautiful color when pressing hash that you and TGA seem to have mastered, so:
•What do you do to dry and for how long? I understand the summer heat may pose problems, im thinking AC and a DeHum to increase speed/efficiency. Is this correct?
•Do you include the microplane stage? I looked through the thread and had trouble finding this so sorry if you have already addressed this.

Hey Lightsoda, sorry but the choice is pretty or yummy. Most of the time the color of the trichomes change with pressing/heat and just time. You will retain the beautiful blondes and amber colors but on the inside not on the outside. If you let your finely microplaned trichomes melt together without press, what Matt call "pocket cure" your trichomes colors will have changeD as well.
I have no dedicated drying room so I go with the weather and my big nose. Slow drying vs fast drying, I personally go for the slow but I have had no chance to experiment drying faster.
I do not microplane and I do not freeze, may it be trims or trichomes. You weaken your trichomes by working with a microplane I think.

The look is impressive if you get the smell and taste to go with it when pressing (assuming that you do)...it will be Yummyness

I havnt been making hash for 20 years. Ive barley been around that long. Haha
If possible could you post the name of the bag company you use I've watched the video many times & looked up everything I thought it could be still can't find them- any help is appreciated

Thanks for the reply, that's sort of what I had anticipated because I had batches where I left out the microplane stage from a couple different bags and you could definitely see the hues of the trichs coming through the brown exterior, i.e blueberry headband being a blueish amber and green crack being orange, the insides retained color like you said. I am actually still in what I consider trials too with full melt bubble so in time I will figure out a preference, but a lot of research has been put into this so more experimenting to come.

I recieved my bags in last week or so, I can't wait to try to make bubble hash for the first time! I'm going to be doing it by hand (no machine sadly), I think/hope I read and saw enough videos to attempt this! I tried to read threw this read but my god at over 110+ pages it gets intense haha. I just have a couple of questions, I know RO water or distilled water is recommended but would bottle water work? Or to many minerals in the water? I know the colder the better and it's better to have more ice than water but is there a "too much" ice/water limit? I was going to do first wash 10 mins (keep in mind by hand) is that to long/short? My kit didn't come with a 25 micron pressing screen, is that something I should get ASAP? Any videos you guys suggest for me to check out? From what I hear, the most important parts are the agitation and the dryinng process. Thanks for the help guys and continue the beautiful art of hash!

Any "clean" water will do, you just want to avoid chemical. It is NOT better to have more ice, quite the opposite in fact. You need as much liquid as possible for the trims to "swim" and loose their trichomes. The ice is to make the water cold, not to shake the trichomes from the trims. The wash by hand should be in the 10 to 15 min, do not agitate in your bag but in a food grade plastic container. The 25 microns is good only for edibles most of the time, if you were working with quantity I would say yes, otherwise forget not really worth the effort. Check my 2 videos, the first one is the wash process with a machine, no real difference with hand work, the second is the pressing. Thanks for the reply back Frenchy! Ah I didn't know about the ice, i thought it was actually used to hit the trichomes, good to know! What's a good water to ice ratio? So I should agitate by hand for 10-15 in a food grade plastic container and then dump my "liquid gold" into another food grade bucket with my bags lined in correct? The 25 micron pressing screen I was talking about was the pressing screen like this one listed :

I will deff check out the videos! I noticed on the machine (at least one machine I saw on youtube) it would go 15 seconds clockwise one way, pause a moment, then go 15 seconds counter clockwise (back and forth between the two), should I do that motion by hand as well? Or just stick to clockwise (gently)

Approx. 70% water 30% ice, the water has to be ice cold, even if only a little ice is floating it's all good as long as you it's that cold. You got the basic from work container to collector container with bags lined up. You should use a pyrex or a plate to dry instead of the screens. The way you stir does not matter, counterclockwise, or not or both, it is all the same, being gentle is all.

Ok cool sounds good Frenchy. I can't wait to try this out. I've done quiet a bit of BHO and ISO extractions, really wanted to get into the bubble. I had a quick question/idea, do you think cutting the top of a 5 gallon water jug would work as my work/collector container? Is it technically food grade since it holds the water we drink?
If not, I'll order the buckets ASAP. How many runs of the same material do you do?

It will do, be careful to have the cut real smooth so that your bags cannot snag.
I run my trims an average of 3 to 5 times, sometimes as many as 12, it all depends on the strain.

Damn that sucks! If it makes you feel better,I did my gumby hash in a horse feed bucket.. It was brand new though,I figured if it was animal food grade it'd be more suitable then a home depot bucket.

i imagine keeping it extra cold helps minimize leeching....i hope anyways lol im about to do a last run in that bucket.
