Temperature Cut off switch - in case grow room gets too hot

Hey guys, I tried searching for an answer to this, but (is it just me) couldn't find anything from the 'search' feature.

Is there a cost effective way, $40 or less, to cut the power to the lights if the temp gets too hot?

I am guessing I just need to spring $150 for a good climate controller, but I'm short on funds now.

Also, I am not planning on needing the switch, as I will be cooling everything well, but would like a safety net for when I'm gone for the day. I figure a little switch is worth my house not burning down, if my fan decides to die.

So yeah, should I just get the expensive unit?

Thanks

They make cords with a thermostatic switch for pretty cheap but cut off is at over 100 F
:peace:

I think this is my answer. What I mean is, I figured there was something generic for a hot cut off, but the plants would be in serious trouble at 103? right? I haven't started growing so I don't know.

Anyhow, thanks for the info NewGrowth.

I've already TOTALLY blown my budget for construction. May as well keep going out of control.

appreciate it.

I understand, no your temps should not get that hot it is mostly for fire prevention. I have never had one trip let me see if I can find a link for you.
All I could find was this one:http://littlegreenhouse.com/accessory/controls.shtml

Not really what I was talking about though, mine is just an extension cord and the switch is located near the female end. I think it cuts off at 103 F, I think I got it at Lowes but I've had them for quite while now.

Here's my thought. I was just going to run the cut off switch for the light, because that generates the most heat, but I guess in small quantities the ballast, air pump, and fans generate heat too.

I wouldn't want to turn everything off at say 85, but if for whatever reason it did get to 103 I would want everything off.

So maybe I will get a cut off for the light and one of these things for the rest. Excellent idea NewGrowth.

With this kind of thinking I bet you can you see why my budget has been destroyed.

Yeah I just run one for my light, that is the only real fire hazard.

STC1000 i ordered it for 17.00 ac110 , set temp at 70º sends pwr to exhaust fan. Set off temp 60º fan turns off.

Good luck with the grow buddy. Always exciting times, gearing up and getting all set. What seeds you running?

Nice. You got a journal or anything? I'm curious how the AK auto turns out. Have you run autos before? I'm looking to run some this year... I'm in a new situation and want to run some stuff outside, but not wait till october to harvest them.
