Swamp Growing

so for the last few weeks i have been scouting all the woods in my area, and have not had much luck finding a place that lets in enough light, so i finally thought about a swamp nearby

PRO TIP: Google Earth / satellite is your friend when it comes to finding a good location to scout out ;)

i went there and sure enough there are many places with ALOT of light and would be unlikely for anyone to go there unless they knew what they were looking for

it is basicly an island in the middle of a swamp that you have to cross many logs and many other islands to get to, but as far as light and security goes, it is perfect

only problem is that as you can imagine, the ground pretty much stays wet, not completely soaking wet as the spot i have chosen is pretty well elevated from the swamp itself, so would it be bad if my plants had a constant supply of wet soil? my best explanation of how wet it is would be how soil feels about an hour after you water your plants, but im still going to dig holes and put down potting soil where my plants will be just for the sake of having decent soil

crossing my fingers here because i have litteraly spent at least 20 hours scouting locations for the last 2 weeks only to be disappointed again and again

the problems i am aware of are rising swamp levels, alot of snakes, and mold, but i'll do my best to avoid these issues

find a swamp, stacl pallets up so the slots line up , stack them high enough so they are out of the water 18" fill the pallets up with your good soil, and plant your clones. in the top. it works like a wick system.

P.S. i did not read your post past the title SWAMP GROWING, but thjis is a good way

You're going to have a shitload of insect problems, every time I plant too close to swamps I regret doing so.

@sunbiz my exact thoughts... major insect control would be needed i'd reckon
I've had young plants completely stripped of their leaves within 24 hours. I still use a spot near a swamp, but I plant very late there. By June they are not as bad, plus the clouds of mosquitos etc keep people away. I hate going in there, bugs are so bad you need a head net!

take a bag of soil and brake it open , poke holes in it and lay it down plastic side down with you dirt and plantson top. 3.8 cu ft bale of promix bx with four clones in a swamp would work nicely

Love this idea, cures deer problems, lowers ripper potential...and would solve the insect problem as well.

maybe, but se7endust always does the trick for me, i was already planning on doing routine application of that anyways

last year i grew near a smaller swamp i guess you could call it and i did have issues with bugs but se7endust did wonders when i started using it

thanks for the tips

there is no duck hunters in that swamp, im extremely sure of it becuase it is actually behind a buddys property, and hes never seen anyone out there or heard shots, i am a bit worried about random pieces of deer corn i noticed in a few locations but never saw any big piles so im guessing an animal just carried it of with them from somewhere else, i hope

id look for shot gun wads and empty shells sound like some one feeds the ducks. when you bait for deer or ducks you dont put it on piles if you know what your doing. id worrry about the corn if your finding it now. or near the duck season. id leave a few dollars in quarters lating around and watch for someone to pick them up.

hmm i didnt know that, i always thought everyone did piles because thats what i have always found, i have been asking alot of hunter friends about hunting routines though so i know how to think like a hunter haha

but im pretty sure no one goes hunting there because i or my friend have never heard shots, but you do bring a good point, the only person im worried about going back there really is a guy that grows in his back yard anyways, but hes a scumbag so if he ever found my plants he would probably steal them :(

thanks for the tip though thats enough for me to consider a new location

no you dont put it on piles. it gets wet like that and dont dry out and the aniamal dont eat it then at least not ducks or deer. they dont like the moild. bear and other aniamals do. there shouldnt be corn there.

squirrels can easily carry a corn cob away, if its less than ten corn cobs in the area then id say its animals.

when did you ever see a squirrel with a cob of corn and drop it and run away. and leave 5 cobs in one spot. come on man. if you find corn in the woods people put it there animals dont drop that.

holy shit thanks for keeping the tips coming everyone, RIU is definatly the best advice giving and active grow forum out there, keep em coming :)
i know i sound winey but the woods here are extremely thick, and hunting is in basicly every neck of the woods around here so im having ALOT of trouble finding a good location

i still have 2 more possible grow spots to check out that are a bit further from my property, may take extra work but totally worth the security in my opinion

in fact i may start taking pics of locations and have you guys give me an opinion on the best looking one :), also hunters welcome, im not much of a hunter but knowing how to think like one will definatly help in avoiding them haha

see thats what i was thinking, and all of the cobs are chewed clean, i only started to doubt it because someone mentioned that not all hunters place corn in a pile

but as for that i think i found said pile about a quarter mile away, ive been doing major scouting of the area surrounding looking for deer stands, trails, etc

Just dig a whole for your choice of pots, put the pot in the ground and fill it with your choice of soil.
yeah i did tthat last year, but this year im going to have about 20 plants to start because im starting with seeds not clones, so i plan on having at least 10 plants out there after the males show up, definatly going to keep that option in mind though thanks
