Technically, plants don't even need to be germed but it helps let you know if it's a useful seed. How far did the taproot stick out when you germed them?

What kind of seedling setup do you have? For mine, I put them in a paper towel on a plate and got it wet. Then I covered it with plastic wrap and stuck it in a warm/dark place. Don't leave it too long because you'll get fungus and mold. As soon as the taproot popped out about 1/4", I stuck a pen into the dirt to make about a 1/2" hole. Then I put the seed in, filled the hole with dirt, and threw a little water on it. Then I placed it under the light with the bulb almost touching the dirt for the first day.

Sound anything like what you did? There are probably 1000's of ways to start a grow but I know mine worked so it might be a good start for you. I've seen some people putting plastic wrap over the cups to create a greenhouse effect in the pots but I feel like that's just restricting the plant of CO2 and fresh air.

ok see thats exactly what i did ...taproots about 1/4" half inch hole, little water and a close light and still nothing:wall:

my temps are between 80 and 85 tho is this a problem?

Now don't hold me to this BUT those temps "should" be alright but they're a little high. I think the rule of thumb is roughly 75 degrees +/- 5 so you're in the ballpark. You're safe at 85-90 but only for a short time.

The only thing that comes to mind would be your plastic wrap and the greenhouse effect it's causing combined with those temps. It's kinda like global warming. The greenhouse effect is trapping in heat and making things hotter. If you're recording temps of 80-85 in the box, who knows how hot it could be under that plastic. I'd guess 90+. I could be completely off but that's where I'd start.

FUCK THAT SHIT!! The mans looking to make his first grow fck paper trials, he can easily get enough for first grow from his local Flower/Greenhouse, WALMART, lowes or fuckin home depot. Or just look up ur closest hydro store within 120 miles, i just drove twice that to get my nutes(badass roadie to btw)

Man dude this is tough start, but it"ll 95% sure work out l... The reason ur first sprout is not growing is because u keep transplantin and moving and messin with it... LET IT BE! Youve already transplanted and i havnt even seen a first pair of true leaves!!!! Calm down, it will grow slow at first then blow up! your temps and and lighting seem to be fine to at least get like some mids to high grade plants, eventually u could add a hps, i just called my local electical store and they had a 400w kit with capaciotor socket ignitor, something else u need, for $99... PATIENCE IS KEY!! From a point of view through the intranet, it seems like the other ones that didnt break soil were just bunk seeds or over/undersaturated soil(unlikely)... IDK, but i got 4 grows under my belt, and this is the best advice from a MJ Newb to a MJ newb... Ive grown many plants before, I work at a fuckin greenhouse, LOL! GOOD LUCK!!!!! Smoke this fo free :joint::joint:

thanks guys, lots of help, the reason i transplanted my only baby was because(of course) the only one that sprouted was the one i was just fucking around with(the one i planted in a christmas ball off my tree otherwise i would have left it.

emptypockets7: i have not had plastic of any sort over my plants for more than a day i didnt trust it(like you said how hot is it really under that plastic, ill have to look into a computer fan or something.

chops9969 : that is exactly what i did(besides hps) i went to walmart got some plain black potting soil, sifted out all the chunks and wood, germinated my seeds planted them about 1/2"once the taproot was on its way and i still got nothing, im wondering if im over/under watering.

thank you both for your help you will both be getting +rep
hope you guys stick around i could def use the help

If you are concerned that it could be your soil, take $10 to lowes and pick up a bag of perlite and a bag of vermiculite. Mix 1-2 parts soil, to 1 part vemiculite and 1 part perlite. it is probably one of the cheapest improvements you can make that could just make a big difference. Look at the first post in the link in my sig. I got both those from lowes.

see, iv upgraded my soil to shultz moisture control and bought a greenhouse style baby tray but i dont seem to be having any luck i might have to get some more seeds because im not having any luck. im almost out and no plants because im a shitty grower. lol im better at smoking it. but i have 16 seeds planted in my baby tray with moisture control soil half of which i doubt will sprout(old pale brown seeds) but atleast 8 should be good seeds

it seems that the general consensus here is that the soils like that have the time release fertilizers in them and are not that good for growing mj. You are better off buying an inexpensive top soil with no nutes in it and adding the perlite and vermiculite for aeration and drainage. It is usually not suggested that you should be having any nutes on seedlings until they are at least 2 weeks old. Maybe, just guessing here, the nutes that are already in the soil you are using are too much for such young plants.

I really would recommend trying to use a different soil before starting any more seeds. Like I said you can get soil, vermiculite and perlite for 10-15 dollars. The seeds I just recently germed were from a stress induced hermie and they all germed in 2-3 days then broke soil after about 2-3 days after planting them. All bagseed. If they show the taproot then they shouldnt have a problem breaking through the soil. unless something is killing them. either the soil, nutes, or over/underwatering. I could be wrong, but that is the way I see it.

i agree that i shouldnt be using soil with nutes in it but i like at the end of the world and its winter here so options are limited. i used plain soil the first time but there is nowhere in town that sells perlite and vermiculite during the winter, i dont even know if i can get it during the summer. so i grabbed the moisture control stuff this time around. i hope there isnt too much nutes though

oh by the way. thanks everyone for your help in trying to solve my plant problems. i just cant for the life of me figure out what im doing wrong. i dont think im over watering, i havnt watered in 4 days but the soil is still moist(greenhouse dome) so im not under watering, the only downside right now is the little bit of nutes in my soil. but will 0.08-0.12-0.08 really make THAT much of a difference? i mean my schultz plantfood that i will be using is 10-15-10 so it doesnt seem like alot to me

also, iv never heard one way or the other but what about if i dilute a little bit of schultz takeroot powder into the next helping of water will this make any roots that exist stronger and help it grow more or is this only useful when transplanting. (i already know i shouldnt be trying to rush my first grow but iv been trying for a month and dont even have one plant:wall:)
