RO/DI water

Hi. I have an RO/DI unit for my saltwater aquarium. My TDS meter reads 5ppm after the RO filter and 0ppm after it goes through the DI resin. For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, RO means reverse osmosis and DI means Deionization. The deionization process removes all ions from the water.

Can I feed my plants (soil) DI water or should I go with RO instead?

Where can one find an affordable RO/DI filter/pump CONTRAPTION!
I bought my RO for like $200.00. Just need a male hoise thread for attaching to you plumbing and access to a drain for the 'waste water'. For every gallon of ro you will produce 4-5 gallons of 'waste'. Get one from a hydro shop not one of the big box stores.

on the contrary, you can get a number of fittings to match whatever your needs are. i highly recommend any pushin QuickConnect type adapters. You can get drain saddles with pushin quickconnect fittings as well! Google John Guest angle adapter valves. They are fucking sweet.

The ratio of waste water is determined by the restrictor used on the drain line. Most RO systems are designed to waste at a ratio of 6:1.
HydroLogic's Merlin and Stealth RO systems are designed to waste at least 25% less than other RO systems. $180 for the stealth100

I bought my unit at buckeye field supply. For $169 you get a very good RO/DI with a 75 GPD Premium system. It includes a Dow Filmtec RO membrane (the best), good quality prefilter and carbon block, inline pressure gauge, handheld TDS meter, vertical refillable DI filter, RO bypass valve, flush valve and even an adjustable flow restrictor if you request it. Thats pretty hard to beat. I did my research, trust me.

It makes 4 gallons of waste water for every gallon of RO water.

thanks for the kind words big bro, but i cant take that crown, as im still learning. this whole water treatment thing has kinda sparked my interest. funny how this hobby has opened me up to a little bit of everything. interest unlock other interests and so on. but yes it does help to have that contact at the water company! just as well as other contacts, i love networking....data networking and personal/job/experience/whatever etc networking!!!!!

now on you to sir:

well first off, i wasnt talking to you, speaking in general to VictorVicious...who in turn was talking to blondie07. But since you bit, why not?

Im well aware you've done your research, nor was i questioning it. You bought a 75gpd system with whatever goodies you said for 169 which waste 4:1.....well i got a 100gpd system with goodies for 180 shipped.

Did i mention mine also waste 3:1. not only that but its customized for our application!

im just saying, you took the bait, so.....

I wasn't talking to you either. I was merely informing people which unit I got. What unit did you buy (link)? Would like to see it.

And what did you mean by "its customized for our application!"?

I'm willing to bet that all of the manufactures put a female hose connection at the connection end of thier ro systems. I am sure that VV probably knows about 'rigging things up' and if you want to take the time you would find I recommended the 'push fitting' about a year ago. I think I know about the differences there can be in waste water, the Merlin does advertise using 25% less waste water, I just posted that in response to some one that needed more water than my little 200 gallon per day produces. I use push fittings for attaching my air lines to my tanks so I don't have to move my air pumps. ANd if you look at the post I made of a flood and drain build you will see the push fittings there as well. And if you have all done so much research about it why would you ask such a stupid question. VV:blsmoke:

Dang! Thats quite a bit of waste water for RO. (Just started looking at RO systems)

I might just go a different route.

I have a decent filter on the tap now.
At work we use a DI filter that will take it down to 2-5 micro siemen (from straight tap *zero* waste) I haven't tested the EC/PPM Might carry my meter with me on a trip (I did write it off my taxes)

The waste water is a prob. Just came out of a drought with big water restrictions.
