PC fan wiring (with motherboard connector) help!

Hello Rollitup!

After constructing my Rubbermaid Gr(l)ow box, I began to think up an idea for a perpetual harvest using a wardrobe split into two sides. I intend to build this box over the next few months, bit by bit. I searched on walmart.ca and found the Mylex Rivertone maple wardrobe (PIC 1 & 2).

Using the design of the wardrobe I created a 2-d sketch of what the closet would look like (will be posting a scanned image soon):




The reason I am posting this in the DIY forum is because I also was shopping for a nice powerful but quiet fan when I found a Silent Cat 12cm fan optimized for silent performance.

It's 12V and uses 0.3 amps. In terms of speed, it clocks in at 62.2 CFM and only produces 16dBA in terms of noise.

However, I noticed that there is a motherboard connector attached to the end of this particular fan and it has 3 wires (my other fans did not have either).

So my question is...how would I wire this particular fan? Just chop off the motherboard connector and ground wire?

Also, what do you think of using these fans in each of the chambers of my wardrobe?

Just clip it off and solder the red and black one usually the yellow is useless. Your plan is fantastic i wanna make one simialr to it in the future to hold many plants at once. Good design, funny details but it's realistic, jsut keep it cool in there.

Yeah it got cut off but there is at least 2 fans for circulation in each chamber (one in the clone/mother chamber). I also made sure to add 2 fans for intake in the flowering chamber to bring as much fresh air in as I can. I'm also looking into a cool tube for the HPS.

Yeah I'm in love with the setup. I wanted to design a perpetual harvest for my own monthly consumption and with 6 clones, 1 mother, 6 vegging and 6 flowering all at once it means fresh bud every month. Can't wait to start on that one!

Did you draw that high? just pulling up a chair to watch the construction!

Just make sure you plan it out safely (no fires).

The construction wont be for a while! After all, Im also working on my rubbermaid CFL G-13xbuddah grow for the winter (check out the journal if you're interested). I Expect construction to begin in December so watch for new threads in the grow& design forum when that time comes...

Newgrowth - I was high during the mental brainstorming but I drew the blueprint the next afternoon while I was at work. So much free time at my job to come up with new ideas!

The yellow is what is used to monitor the fans speed/change the fans speed.

You should move the pH up away from the pH down. Acids don't mix nicely with bases.

(just kidding and jabbing at the detail of the drawing)

ha, yeah I should also make sure to use misc. in a well-ventilated area

One - A MUCH more detailed design of the grow cab with dimensions and even pictures of the approximate equipment.

Two - A three page spreadsheet detailing quantity, item and cost for each individual chamber.
