Ozone generator=death in ur sleep!

You want to avoid using a ozone generator if you don't need to use it. Ozone is an unstable oxygen molecule. It can cause some pretty deadly forms of cancer for you and your plants. Only use it if you're filters aren't filtering so well for your needs.

So what does an O-zone generator accomplish? i am doing a first grow at the moment (1 month in) and i would like to know what is its purpose?

Ozone is O3 which is not stable like O2 the unstable oxygen atom tends to break off a react with whatever it is close to neutralizing odors by changing their molecular structure.

Works VERY well but is also a respiratory irritant and can damage your plants in high doses. If you put your generator on a timer it reduces the risk of any of these problems however.

Here's the basics on ozone:

Ozone is O3, the oxygen molecule with an extra molecule. Ozone is unstable and in less than 30 minutes will deteriorate into pure oxygen. But before that, it has the ability to bond with pollutant molecules and "oxydize" or neutralize them.

Ozone can be both a waste product and pollutant, like ozone from older copying machines, or a valuable tool. In high concentrations it can be a disinfectant and eliminate extreme odor. It is used in buildings after fires but no living things are in the area.

In low concentrations ozone is an air purifier and odor eliminator. Nature uses it this way. The odor after a summer storm is ozone and those storms clean the air. As for grow areas, I would not put an ozone gen in a closet with a grow. But I would put it in the room outside. It will do zero harm at the concentrations it is capable of producing. I use one in the room my grow closet is in, and one in the main living area.

If you are buying one check on ebay. Pay attention to how much ozone it generates and get the most per dollar. You can dial it down to whatever you want.

I have Tents in a bedroom so I use the Ozone jr in the bedroom just make sure there are no lingering odors

Well the o zone jr says it does like 5,500 sq ft. Thats huge and makes alot of ozone. If your room is sealed and you open it after running that o-zone gen your going to die lol. Seriously people use your heads, it really not that safe unless your emitting the right amount of o-zone for that size room. If I stick the o-zone jr in my 4x4 room not only are my plants going to die but when I open the door I am going to die.

Venting o-zone into living space isn't a very bright idea either. I don't really care if you have been doing it fine and nothing has happend, facts are it's not good for you weither you got hurt yet or not.

Just not the smartest idea, like my friend said his apt is 1,000 sqft that mini o-zone jr could do 5 of his apartment,s and your trying to stick it in a little grow room?

Stupid.

You gotta quit scaring people when you don't have your facts straight. Ozone Jr advertises 1000 CUBIC feet, not 5500 sq ft. 1000 cubic ft is a room with an 8 ft ceiling that measure about 10 x 12 ft, a very small room. And that's the max and that's for a low level of ozone. I don't know what your beef is about ozone but it works and its safe when used correctly.

Thanks for clearing that one up. The JR also has a built in timer so it only emits safe levels. The danger of O3 is really over-exaggerated just don't run it when you are in the room and use a timer if you have a larger gen.

Thankx for all the responses! It was a drunk question from last night. Didnt think i would get such a great response. Thx again!!

Don't qoute me and point out my mistakes when you're the one making mistakes to. I admit I was thinking 5,500 but thats the one HTG offers a step above the jr.

But don't put in caps " CUBIC FEET "

Get your facts straight it's square feet and thats alot bigger then a 10x12 room.

Have fun putting that in a 10x12 sealed room = death trap

I don't know what having a built in timer has to do with emitting safe levels of 03? If you put it in a shoebox and it's on the timer which is 10 minutes on 10 minutes off how is that emitting safe levels when it's meant for a 1,000 sq ft? That's just a dumb ass theory lol.

And your other point is don't run it while your in the room... Well even if your venting your 03 into a different room it's still going to be in the air. Or if you have a sealed room at some point your going to have to open the door which is containing 03.

Basically point being, why fuck with dangerous shit? When there's safe stuff to get rid of odor? I don't see the point.

Sealed room holds in 03 and vented room is venting 03 into your house somewhere.

Sounds safe everyone do it.

You are obviously not very educated or experienced with O3. Ozone is a very effective odor control method maybe if you grew more than a few plants in your closet you would be able to understand

I am gonna do you a favor and agree with this guy. watch yer plants close at least.

Insulting my education because I am stating my opinion? You're the loser kid, it's my opinion. Also now are intelligence is based on how many plants we grow? Some one could only grow one plant and be the best grower in the world.

Kid you're the tool, need to grow up.

I said why danger you're plants and your health when there's other methods that work. Theres no point in putting in a o-zone generator that produces 1000 sq ft in a small room or any room for that matter because I am sure your grow room is not 1,000 sq ft.

Now stfu and be on your way.

What you are looking at is an error, here is the correct spec and it is cubic feet:

1000 sq ft is more than anything but a large generator could cover even just for odor control. So now we've gone from 5500 square feet to 1000 cubic feet and you still defend yourself. One shouldn't attack a product or another poster without having your facts in line, makes one look foolish.

Ozone is perfectly safe and effective and anyone who doesn't use it because some nimrod here says it is dangerous is likely to swallow every other bit of bullshit passed around here and will never grow anything.

I agree, say away from ozone if at all possible but in this case it doesnt sound like it is.

I've been using ozone in my home for 20 years. This thread sounds like the ozone version of Reefer Madness.:roll::roll::roll:

I have used ozone for about 10 yrs also. got mine from my mentor who has used it for over 20 yrs.we are both still alive! his only warning was not to put it in the grow room as it will kill the smell of the plants.
BTW I have seen homemade Ozone generators plans on the net.I would recomend against them only because the are not safe and could start a fire.
