I spent the day building a cover-up structure. I will be able to have three of my plants in it. I moved the fourth one inside to finish off under lights. Found some rot starting to set in on the one I brought inside. I also spent a few days working in our vineyard. With a mask on, it became hard to breath after an hour so I took a lot of breaks.

This is the mask I wore the last three days working outside. It got pretty dirty.

Here is the structure. It's pretty crude, but I think it will work ok.

The Ruderalis Indica from Sensi is not sold as an auto. Some will some won't.

I then crossed that with Panama. I wasn't looking for an auto but more of a faster flowering plant than the Panama by itself. I realize now that the Panama + Pakistani Chitral Kush cross I grew last year achieved that goal and made a delicious indica/sativa hybrid. This ruderalis/indica + Panama cross I'm growing now is definitely not an early finisher. And it gets too tall. I'm not growing it again. You make crosses and you see what sticks. Looks like it's going to be November before it's done. But It was just 1 seed out of hundreds so there could still be what I'm looking for in the next grow if there is one. I might just take a bunch of seeds out early next spring on a hike through recently burned areas in Oregon and play Johnny Appleseed. Just kidding.

Some of the auto's from know legitimate breeders don't always auto.

I'm not a big fan of auto's but I think they have their place. I'm happy with the auto White Widow + Big Bud I planted in May and harvested in August. I'm growing a couple more auto's next spring outdoors because they fill a void when I shut down the indoor grow during the hottest summer months.
A couple of years ago I played around with making my own crosses, had a few great plants but found that I don't have enough space to grow what we need and simultaneously grow a bunch of plants that could be hit or miss. Bruce Banner #3 x LSD (Mazar Sharif x Skunk #1) was the best cross I made, if I had time and room I would have loved to continue developing that one.

Even with their many flaws, given our short grow season I expect that I will continue with all autos for my outdoor (as long as I can continue to get quality strains). My summer season is done, last plant came down on September 6th, everything is trimmed, jarred, and curing at this point. I grew the 'medical six', and harvested enough to last us a year. Works for me. But I'm lucky, the person I grow for has a very high tolerance but is not very picky about things like bud density and I have zero need for "bag appeal", it just needs to get her good and medicated and we're golden. So, many of autos drawbacks don't impact my situation.

I don't have the space either which is why I have friends that get their starts from me and grow stuff I give them. Some of that has been burned up in the fires. The plants can be replaced and are insignificant. The rest is irreplaceable. It's been a bad year. 2020 will go down in history as the year from hell.

May I ask where you got your Mazar I Sharif? I did a seed run of Mazar I Sharif with seeds I got from The Real Seed Company.

I agree that 2020 is a year from hell, on so many levels. Hopefully some good will come of it, I wish it was my nature to be hopeful.

I was just having fun with the crosses, I didn't take it to the level of seeking out landrace (or near landrace) strains myself. The BB3 was a clone from a dispensary, and the LSD was from seeds from Hermetic Genetics that I got from a dispensary. When I got them, HG sold their seeds still on the bud sealed in small cat food size cans, it was actually kind of cool but apparently an experiment they did not continue. I don't think they sell retail anymore, but according to their website they still exist and might be able to help you.

I live in brush prairie and the smoke from fires was really thick and toxic for a few days, I think its a little better today. My plants are missing clean air and sun, they are looking like they are on hold now. some time in October they should be done. These are some ACDC plants I got for Fathers day they were pretty small then, they were topped once. that's 2 plants. I have a bunch more growing in my pole barn, some CBD's and some widows. this picture is several weeks old.20200905_101716[1].jpg

Hey Rob we are still evacuated and staying at an apartment in Clackamas, my house is still standing, my daughter has returned to our house to safe guard the home, the air is really bad since my house is pretty much at ground zero, it's still at level 3 and no idea wheywe can return, good thing I have no plants growing right now

Hang in there, the rains should be coming in a couple of days. That had to be a difficult choice for your daughter to make, some people you just can't talk out of things. My thoughts are with you --

Good morning fellow Oregon outdoor growers. Welcome to my grow. I'm up the North Umpqua did not get evacuated we are on the other side of fires which were 15mi and 8mi from us. We live outside of Glide outskirts, many friends and business got burned out. We will help make their lives return to somewhat normal?? It's with a not very happy heart but it healing to do so that i show my girls. These are all revegged ladies from early preflower, reverted and into deep flower stage. I have a canopy up and a small greenhouse to cover when rains come. I've got a Thai Skunk which is first photo they are a wild branching plant. The rest in the line up are OG, GSC and Mango. Only the Thai looks like she may finish by end of Sept. so far.

The 3rd photo is a soon gonna harvest WW x Tangie from a breeder friend the last full tent photo are of gals i'm gonna take fri. & sat. thank goodness. We've got friends like others here who have lost grows we are planning on sharing our harvests with. Many have lost homes, pets and memories of days past. Bless all, keep safe and we shall overcome.......peace.

Hey fellow Oregonians! I’ve been wondering about rain and the small amount of ash on my plant as well. I’ve got my own thread in here with my grow, but in a nutshell, I’m growing Moolah an indica dominant strain in a five gallon pot. I’d be able to move it, but am worried about shocking the roots of they’ve managed to make it out of the bottom of the pot. Last I checked (about a week ago) I could SEE the roots at the bottom but they weren’t coming out too far. Would you think it’d be a good idea to still move it just for a day or two while it rains, up onto my porch? I’ve included some pics below. But any advice is much appreciated. Thanks everyone and best of luck with all the craziness!

Wow. What a ride. The plants have been a welcome hobby/distraction with all the (lock)down time, but it looks to be another tough finish - tougher with this being only my second year (first was last year when I had to take them early for the rains). The girls are just starting to really stack up, and though the ash hasn't been too bad here in PDX, I'm still covering up with an umbrella at night and running a box fan under it at dawn to keep rot out. Just figuring they are gonna stay a bit dirty as what is already dropped there is getting stuck - the air hose got the bigger chunks, and with this humidity I'm figuring that keeping water off 'em is the call (corrections/input welcome).
Cheers everyone, and my sympathies to those of you more impacted by the disasters.
Pix are of the Duct Tape from Archive that is a week or two ahead of the Hazmat.

I spent a considerable amount of time giving these girls a haircut yesterday and I bought a real greenhouse cover for my hoop house. The 6mil poly at home depot and lowes are now made with recycled plastic and are far from clear, more of opaque greyish color. This stuff was $185 for 50x100 and is UV protected and supposed to last 4 years. I can cover this twice for the $185 so it's a better buy than $98 for the same size junk from home depot that only lasts a couple of years. White Tahoe Cookie times four this year. The only issues so far this year have been whiteflies and I think I murdered them all. Powdery mildew season will begin any day now so watch for it.

Here comes the rain, thank gawd! Hopefully it'll be sufficient to soak up some the smoke. Despite having 8 and 9 ft plants I was able to get a reasonable cover over them for the coming rains. I'm under no illusion that it will hold up under a fall storm, but it should the girls dry until mid-Oct anyway.

The Kilimanjaro, on the left, is about halfway through flower so I'm hoping I can get her close to finish in another month. The Durban is starting to develop some nice coloring with the cooling weather:

With the incoming rain, I've spent the last couple days getting my structure built. Wasn't fun being out in the smoke but I managed to get it up, and it turned out pretty decent. My tallest plant is a hair under 10' andI'm not too thrilled about it due to having to try to build above the canopy in a confined space filled with a ton of vegetation. I highly doubt it'll make it to November without major issues. The smoke has been blocking the sun for the past week and a half. All in all, it's been another unique journey this season. Hoping to have something to show for it in a couple months. 20200917_143835.jpg20200917_144503.jpg20200917_144010.jpg

That was one wild thunderstorm last night. Woke up to the thunder and went out in the backyard to take a look and realized the gutter on my patio awning was clogged. Fortunately I had a ladder leaning up against the house so I unclogged the gutter in boxers a t-shirt, and slippers. I got soaked.

Then another downpour came through this afternoon and there was some wind with it. It blew this plant down. Fortunately it landed on the tomatoes and I was able to get a decent shot of it on it's side. It looks like it's coming around but a long way still to go. It's over 7ft tall It's the Panama+ Ruderalis Indica. I'm calling it Paneralis. It better get used to living on it's side because that's how it's going to be growing when I stick it in the greenhouse. I've grown a couple seeds of the same cross already. Just small plants basically 12/12. It was pretty good stuff. I was disappointed when I ran out.

A day or two ago

After being blown over for a photo op. It's got a really nice structure. I wish I would have topped it a couple time so it didn't get so tall. But that might also be a benefit as dense bushy plants are more prone to rot and finding it if it does occur.

The smoke from the fires have impacted us here in Vancouver BC since Sept 10th, if fact they said our poor air quality was only second to Portland.

Yesterday it cleared up a lot, and some rain to clean the air as well...today is almost back to normal air quality

Wow, the wind is really ripping here tonight. It is going to put my covering to the test. Tomorrow morning I will either have three nice and dry plants, or a shredded mess of a cover and soaked plants. Keeping fingers crossed for the former.
