Hey New Growth, I got into a brief discussion with someone about how moving plants in an indoor set up makes the plant convert it's energy into correcting itself. I wasn't really following the line of argument hence my vague post about it now. I tend to move my plants slighty throughout the start (I also grow vertical) but then they take the shape of my cabinet and I tend to find when I move them to water or inspect I can never seem to get them back in the same place, I end up looking at them thinking, "so where the hell did that branch go before,". Ever come across this theory?

Very cool, I've done the exact same thing before. I think the monster ebb and grows are a better design for trees. The modified waterfarms are square, I like to turn the plants 1/4 turn every couple days with vertical lighting so the round buckets work well. I saw some of heath's 'waterfarms' that were made with 5gal buckets that looks cool . . .
Trees are the way to go though, I'll never go back to a SOG :)

The plants definitely track the light, it's what they do naturally outside as the sun travels across the sky. I think it is a silly theory to think the plant is losing light in fact if I did not turn my plants they would look like hell. The bare bulbs are very hot and the leaves tend to get scorched if I don't turn the plants. I've also noticed that turning them makes the bud ripen evenly, with stationary lights/plants you always get a bunch of stuff that's light deprived, loose and less finished.
I've never gotten yeilds like this before indoors using reflectors even with advanced canopy management like SCROG. If I did not turn my plants the lights would have to move or I would have to use some sort of screen to utilize the light enough to match the yields. SCROG tends to make it hard to trim and spray the plant though.

pretty much what I thought............this dude was fairly adamant though. Oh well, I will keep moving my plants as normal, and good to know others are doing so as well.

I used to spin mine a qtr turn every day but now that I have 4 1/4" tubes going to my pot it is kinda impossible unless I want to redo my irrigation every day too.

Can't wait Mary!
To each his own guys, I like turning the plants for reasons stated. Even the plants that are surrounded by 4 lights get turned in my room. The plant seems to take about a day to fully re-track the light. My room is rather large so It's not a big deal to walk down the rows and turn each plant. I could understand other situations such as a closet or low ceiling height were turning them might just be too much of a pain I the ass. I do know in my particular situation not turning them could result in a substantial loss of yield. I often show people my set up on paper or 'in theory' usually they recommend something else like reflectors, SOG, super cropping, ect. When I tell people I turn the plants they look at me strange too. Then I take them into the actual grow and it clicks with every single person even if they were telling me how great the new Raptor reflectors are 10 min prior . The results are apparent vertical lighting if used properly works REALLY well. Some people are more stubborn and have to see the BIG buds that big plants make before they concede that I'm getting results. A friend of mine recently look at my purple hash plant about 4.5weeks in and told me that he had never seen colas as big even outside. Before he was insisting I set up flood tables . . .
What I've seen of the pot world is people are stuck in their ways and think there is only one right way to grow pot, I'm a little more open to anything I can see results with.

Well I hope this thread is a learning experience for everyone(myself included) in being opened minded to others ideas from growers(nothing wrong with asking questions or talking out differences in opinions, just be respectful bongsmilie).

Like I said earlier I look back at some of my posts and cringe at my one dimensional thinking, its easy to say "I tried this it didnt work, but what if you tried it in a different town, or in a different way, with a different strain, etc...

I am very honored to have the line up of great growers in this thread with different styles Thank you everyone for stopping in.bongsmilie

Mary your PM is full, send me a link to your new thread when you get it going. :peace:
Hey man I decided to go ahead and just post up in here. I got caught up in the hottest girls of riu thread.

So, quick update. Those of you who have been following my "Hello World" thread know that I have decided to run a modified under current system(fill you guys in on that pretty soon), in the mean time I have been performing some root zone tests on a variety of products, if you guys are interested you can check that out here,
https://www.rollitup.org/nutrients/405247-roots-excelurator-best-damn-root.html

Since I have read some info stating chloramines stay in much longer than traditional chlorine,
I actively aerated my tap water for 10 days to ensure the RE is not damaged.(as RE is a beneficial), both buckets are the same, cleaned the same way, same hydro clay, etc.
The tests were to be conducted on three pairs of plants (6 plants total)during the initial testing.) In each test if any plant was noticably better in any way that plant was doses with sm90, and the RE is being dosed with the smaller plant, in the next round of testing it will be reversed, my logic being if roots excel is the best even when competing with a clone off to a better start it should end up out performing the other one.

So in the first picture is white urkle(2)~ was put in the hydro clay (feb 16th), this was the smaller stature clone with a smaller root mass this is the plant getting dosed with roots excel @1ml per gallon.

The second white urkle (2) clone also transplanted on the 16th is receiving sm90 at 2ml per gallon. this was the larger clone of the two both in stature and root mass.

Here are the 2 sour queens, they were transplanted from the aero cloner on the 16th as well.
The sour queens are also receiving the same 1ml roots excel/ 2ml sm90 dose per gallon.

the two clones are extermely similar, the better looking clone of the two is getting the SM90.

(sm90)

(Roots excel)

This is the larger plant of the two large white urkels(1) that I started my origial test on,
(It was actually the smaller plant of the two until I dosed it with the roots excel, it was also receiving the same dosage of re 1ml / sm90 2ml. )

I gave away one of the white urkel(1) to a friend who gave me some clones including the white urkle(2).

The white urkle(1) which was doesed with RE developed a much larger root mass and grew up top much faster as well, that is the plant I kept, so far I have been very impressed with Roots excel in my first experiment, sorry i should have snapped some pictures of the two root zones for coparison, (wasn't planning on giving away any plants, my buddy just showed up out of the blue with cuttings for me, so I gave him some stuff as well.)

I will also be testing canna aqua

vs house and garden.

first up ill do simply base nutrient against base nutrient, and then go from there.

I will also be testing several of the commerical cloning units currently available,

I got a lot of things popping but I promise not to leave you guys hanging.

It's a shame RE and Zone are mutually exclusive. You kinda confirmed what I already assumed, RE is one of the few additives that is not snake oil.

So where the hell is your Under Current rig?! I want to see some updates on that! How big are the girls in the rig getting?

(By the way I was going to rep you, but apparently I don't rep as much as you because I am being told to spread the love around.)

the plants are not even in the UC system at the moment, they were only in for a couple days, after doing some tests I discovered to my shock that the alita 40 air pump is pumping out air temp of 101 degrees with the first reducer on(supplied by uc)when the ambient air temps are 74 degrees, you can read about it more over at the farm or wait a couple days and Ill be putting the info up over here as well.

So as of right now all the plants are in my sun room sitting in bubble buckets and I am running a controlled test of RE vs Sm90(glad I did too cause im ditching the sm90 from here on out as my primary root zone product, ill be posting up my results over in the nutrient section. )

In the meantime I am redesigning the current UC system to fit my needs, and am looking to ditch the air pump(i owned alitas in the past as well, always thought they were great pumps, never would have thought in a million years the temps they were pushing were so hot, I measured 5 pumps all in all, with pondmaster being the pump pushing the coolest air.

you can find really strong h2o2 on the net they use it for making mounted skulls of trophy animals, it burns the flesh off and can do that to you as well. A good chemistry supplier will have what your looking for.

It does not burn flesh just bleaches it. Even the really strong stuff can get on your hands as long as you don't leave it there it will just bleach your skin a bit.

If anyone is looking at buying a UC system~ they currently offer two different air pumps the alita and the pondmaster. The pondmaster pumps air significantly cooler than the alita, if I was going to try and run the system without a chiller, I would def go with the pondmaster and not the alita.
(the alita is a slightly better pump with more pressure though)

^^^^when you're finished with the test....I'll take a cloner off your hands...LOL^^^^
LOL yah know I have been wanting to do a give away contest here at RIU, maybe ill work something out with the mods get a couple companies to donate some stuff and we can have a big ass give away. :)
I like threads where folks are having a good time and everyone is participating, like the hottest girls of riu 2011 thread :)
