I GOTTA LOSE THE AIR PUMPS! HOW?! Plus my awesome mini DWC :)

Airwalker I'm loving your setup bro,and I'm glad I've run across this cause I had no idea about the airpumps being so loud. I've never done a rdwc lol.

I need to read up on how to set up a waterfall rdwc now, any way to lesson noise and equipment that can fail must be good. Do you have any links that really explain it in detail? I've never done any type of hydro so I'm having a hard time picturing in my head how the water flows back to the rez through the bottom pipes.

Sorry if it sounds lazy, I plan on spending however long it takes going through threads using the search bar, but I was hoping if you already had some threads bookmarked that would point me in the right direction.

I think I saw you talking about a much quieter type of fan for ventilation in another thread but I exited it and forgot what it was called,if that was you could you tell me thetype of fan you were talking about? Something about a different type of housing and impeller? You sounded very impressed.

Well I've got 2" pipe so I can't use screens unfortunately but root clogging has never been an issue. Hope it doesn't become one. The res I don't really need to aerate, but on the return from the chiller I suppose I could add a venturi. I'm using them in my smaller setups res.
Venturi has been added. Noticeable aeration within the res now. Very very cool.

It's simple. All the buckets are connected Ted to the res, the pump fills each bucket from the res, theoretically draining it, and good ol GRAVITY brings it back through the pipes because they've gotten fuller and water always seeks it's level!

So you've pumped water out of the rez to each bucket, the water falls down to each bucket site out of a 90° elbow fitting pointing down above the water line. Then the water drains back to the rez through thebottom piping even though the bottom line is all thesame level. You don't need to step the line down from each bucket to the next? I don't think I said that right but that's the gist right?

And to set the initial water level you just pour the solution into the rez with thepump runnimg until each bucket is filled to how high you want the level?

Water is usually about half way of the bucket full. About 30-35gals.
You're way over thinking this very simple principle of physics, my man.

Think of it this way:
Because that pump in the reservoir is draining the water inside it to feed to the buckets, the water has to get refilled from somewhere! So by connecting all the buckets together then to the res, at the lowest Point, gravity always refills that reservoir. Imagine the res draining and the bucket sites all being filled with water. If it's all connected together, you can imagine how the water would come rushing into the reservoir.
Luckily, the 2" pipes are large enough that you don't even see a change in the water level WHATSOEVER. But funny enough, with 1" pipe, that Pump drained the whole reservoir before the dinky 1" diameter could even bring enough water back to refill.

So thelines feeding the buckets are 1", and the line back to the rez at 2". This'll provide enough unrestricted flow to keepthe system flowing, at level, and keep the returns from clogging up with roots.

You mean the bubbling of the air stones?
Yes mate, the V60s are pretty quiet when on foam. With the lids open on my DWC units the noise of the bubbles breaking the water surface i'd say is louder. My Mars 2 LEDs are definately waaaay louder. Bottom line is I've never worried about the noise from the two V60s, more the vibration on the floor which is alleviated with the foam.

Yeah that's the one although $200 is way too much. In the UK they're about £50 ($65). I'd check ebay or amazon.
Thanks bro! No I wouldn't pay that for an air pump! The wife would strangle me in my sleep! I just wanted to know if it was the right unit.

I think I'm going straight up waterfalls,it just makes too much sense in my mind to go that way. Seriouslythanks forthe info though,I always want to see what others are doing,and knowing what others think

@Airwalker16 I Was just looking at your mini-dwc pics, the line leaving your pump,feeding the waterfalls, it starts out at 3/4" vinyl tubing from the pump, hits a 4-way manifold then reduces to 1/2" vinyl to the bucket,goes into the bucket and ends as a 1/2"(?) Elbow right?
