you clearly dont know what youre talking about but i'll enlighten you. you pulling that 2k figure out of your arse?

how does 1.8 umol/j compare to 2.5umol/j? that might be a bit brainy for ya? want me to break it down?

i run 1200w per 4x8 and pull more or less 1900g. do the maths ya numpty. then subtract less AC bills and bulb changes. its a no brainer

this is exactly why im doing this lol. i really want to see for myself.. i personally think its going to be very comparable in my case, unless i do in fact get 1gpw or more from the LED side, then it will be hard for me to use the HPS anymore, cutting the electric used in half and save more money per month on electric. which would be somewhere around 20$ saved... which is awesome, to me. and having back up lighting probably isnt a bad thing.

i did follow you on instagram. @greenwintersgrow this is my first grow on IG so there are only these pictures. but there's more information than what im putting on here... cause people get crazy on here.

Hey QuikWay. I just discovered your thread man, gotta revise that sig. Let me tell you guys, QuikWay has been instrumental in helping me to grow better cannabis. Look at his past posts. The guy (I assume) is nothing but positive. Where is all this trash talk coming from? Respect this guy. His intention is to do an experiment. Let it play out. Lay the fuck off this guy. He is the kind of person we want to keep around this forum.

5:20 am i started germ(paper towel method)
the 3 strains i am beginning are
3 Laughing Buddha
3 Red Dragon - Both from Barney's Farm
3 Chocolate Haze - Royal Queen Seeds.
as soon as seeds pop they will be transfer into either solo cups or final home (3 gallon smart pots). i have not decided, yet...

5 plants will be under 4 hps lights that totals 600watts(150w each)
4 Plants will be under RapidLED.com's 2x4 5 Cree CXB3590 3000k cob leds that totals 315watts. (Recommended by many genetics/growers.. massmedical, royalqueen, etc.)
they will start and finish under their specific lights and will be kept separate.
no CLF or supplemental lights..
I will be using Fox Farm Ocean Floor And the Fox Farm line of nutes.
(i really like fox farm)
according to what i have read i should get 1g - 1.5g per watt from the LEDs
according to my other grows I've gotten a little bit more than .5g per watt with HPS.
Total Weight Goal - around 615g. 315 - LED 300 - HPS
Maximum height i want is 24"
Goal height is between 15" - 20"...
I have never grown under LEDs before.

As soon as there is something to post i shall post it!!
Feel free to comment or ask questions or give advice during this grow.
Cool experiment bro I'm about to do the same not really to compare the lights but more so to begin perpetual garden so I can harvest more often.Im curious what kinda LED do you have cause I'm buying one very soon.Ill be waiting to see more about your expireriment...

I did a similar thing a while back and am now 100% LED. I'm about to retire the first light I built for flowering which was 8 4ft eb strips in 3-5k. I've loved it, but will use it to veg and have new 3k lights that I plan to eventually incorporate far reds and uva into. Love where the tech is going and the results. Subbing up.

I didn't even know I was in a journal at 1st.

I think I found this link in the new posts section and the title sounded like something from the indoor growing section lol.

:peace:

lol! Some may have forgotten or not realized this was a grow journal as some of us did on page 1.
The title hps vs led is a magnet.

hey hey i really appreciate you a lot for this. thank you.. and welcome to the journal! lol...
(most of the hate came from the plants not being clones)

Unfortunate news for this experiment though............
I'm switching to 100% LED for the sake of my electric bill... ( i do like the plants on the LED side way better ) but that's not what made this decision, at all..

at almost 400KWH+ added to the bill PER MONTH..
i HAD to by switch in order to keep this grow...
soo... with LEDs i dropped that to 180KWH per month.. which is a little less than my computer.
instead of a bit more than 900watts.. i will now only have 465...
NO this was not the entire problem, but it is definitely doing to help.....

whoever was following, thank you for following... i will still be posting pictures here shortly..

THIS IS NO LONGER AN HPS VS LED GROW

Wow man, electricity must be expensive where you are per KWH. Here, its somewhere between 9 and 9.6cents/KWH or 6 to 6.9/KWH. I can't remember cause it's just so cheap I don't even pay attention to it. I did take 30/month off my bill by only turning water heater on for an hour a day. But I understand, gotta do what you gotta do!

nooo no no its not that it is expensive its even cheaper here at 0.065cents per KWH. its because i live in a house with really paranoid people... and that the electric bill tripled and we have no idea why or how.... SOOOOOO... a bill that was... 42+ is now 120+ a month... and has been for like 8 months now... our original billing was around... 680KWH a month.. this has jumped to 1800KWH and is fluctuating between 1800 and 1000 which... 1000kwh would be totally acceptable...
that fluctuation is what is completely unacceptable when NOTHING changes here from day to day.....
I KNOW ITS NOT BECAUSE OF MY LIGHTS.... but they have no idea and are very worried an electric audit will happen...
last thing i want is for ANOTHER GROW TO BE INCOMPLETE BECAUSE OF REALLY STUPID:cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss: BULLSHIT......:wall::wall::wall:
its very frustrating... so it has become my job to discover why this is happening, because everyone else is just yelling at each other for it instead of trying to solve the problem...
alone i've spent 2500 in new appliances and lighting for the garage since everything was pretty close to 20 years old......

and if you followed my first grow then you know, in my household, every last bit of money counts so a bill that tripled is well.. crippling.....
which is what made me grow in the first place, besides the fact i would like to be a professional in this industry.....
not a breeder.. at least for awhile... i just really like growing very very very much so and my plants make me feel like i'm pretty good at it.

in my mind.
30 dollars a month is a date night you're missing out on, with someone you love.
or close to 1 week worth of groceries... a months worth of alcohol(for me) and etc....
so.. if i can save money all around and get similar results... i will absolutely 100% do it every time, all day, everyday...

Pictures are from sunday. Week 3 day 1. They stopped stretching a few days after week 2. And I just turned my lights to 10.5on 13.5 off... they look great. Their phenos are coming out... and are ON POINT...
the red dragon are the shortest, bushy plants, more indica traits than sativa, they smell sweet. Not quite like strawberries but maybe papaya. I'm not exactly sure..
I don't know my fruits..
Laughing Buddha is the most sativa.. the tallest frostiest leggy plant so far.. I can't describe the smell except for.. really strong.. hashy. Spicy maybe???
The Chocolate Haze is the next to LB in sativa traits.. didn't get as tall but the bud sites cover most of the plant. It's amazing. The smell is not, though. She smells like straight dirt.. Woody, earthy. No sweet smell here at all, at least not through my nose anyways.

Looking great, man. Oh, as far as your electric goes. Do you have a smart meter or analog meter? What ya should do is cut off the main breaker. Check if the meter is still turning. if not, ok, turn each breaker on one at a time. BUT, make sure all the lamps, lights, TV's, computers, etc are off. Note how many seconds it takes for your meter to make one revolution. After each breaker is turned on. That's what I did, I traced it to my hot water heater, which as I said, gets turned on only an hour a day now (plenty hot water) which equates to about 25 cents a day. Turns out, I had a bad element. I still keep it off since it's been fixed though.

Edit: I also used this website. Look at number 3. It will tell you how many kW/hr is running in your house just by typing it how many seconds it takes for 1 revolution of your meter. Also supports digital meters. Great little calculator: http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/measure.html so by logging the meter activity after each breaker, you can work out the math as to which breaker is using the most electricity. Then you can narrow it down from there. Hope this is useful for you.

aye! i just saw this post. sorry i didnt reply much sooner. this is the exact kit i bought https://www.rapidled.com/cxb3590-2-x-4-grow-kit/
i also bought these as well to replace the last of my HPS lamps... https://www.rapidled.com/twin-150-plug-and-play-led-grow-light/
im not regretting it at all. they look super nice.. all 8 plants are well covered.
I will be doing growing less plants from now on but i am pumped about the outcome so far.

here are pictures from Oct 6th... week 4 of flower. aprox 5 more weeks to go. and they are doing so well.
there really isn't much to say about them. everything is looking and smelling like the breeder's site says.
I noticed some yellowing leaves, hit'em with a bit of N and they are good and perky again.
I have only fed lightly with nutes this grow, because last grow i over did it a tiny bit and got some weird stretch caused by too much p/k...
so... ive been feeding with the lowest amount stated on the bottle and it seems to be working out well.
