How close should I keep my 2'x2' 8 bulb HO T5 to new clones?

Title explains itself...

This is my first grow using a high output t5 on clones and I think I heat stressed my little ones having it too close... temps in my tent are no higher than 82 ever and mostly around 78. I think the intensity was just too much for them to be 6-8" away...If I remember correctly this particular t5 emits around 14,400 lumens.

Thanks, I have a fan but these here are babies which are barely rooted. I noticed t5's come in many varieties with various numbers of bulbs....what type of t5 are you running that you're able to keep it that close with seedlings / clones? Mine is an 8 bulb high output t5 on a 2'x2' housing.

You're using T5 HO which is highest watts. I stand by what I said first - you'll be OK at 6 - 8 inches. My lord - don't take that one out of context. :)

Piss...that means I have to try and figure out what the hell is causing this irregular growth. I thought I was solid with heat stress but perhaps this is a plant disease situation? Never dealt with it before so I wouldn't know what that would even look like but maybe I need to expand my horizons in understanding this issue...fuck man, if only 3 weeks ago I had mixed my neem oil properly, I'd be looking at 5 healthy aurora's.....ugghhh life can be a MF'er time to time

i keep my t5 ho about 2-3" on clones. 8-10" on first day. my room runs hot at about 88F and still grow fast with 45 degree fan leaves so heat can't be the issue for you unless you're running high 90s. it's probably still recovering from the neem spray. the only thing that will get that neem off is some kind of emulsifier. maybe a weak dishsoap spray and wipe might get that neem residue off. i'de double check with someone else on that first though as i've never done it. good luck to ya, i'm sure they will recover, just give them time. we've all been there.

far-

its the low light condition that leads to root production. the plant literally thinks its too short, which in nature is the cause of low light. all the other plants are taller blocking the light. in order to get taller, and get more light, we need more roots. i use ambient light off to the side of my veg room.

a diffuse 23 watt cfl would cover a 4 x4 tent of clones.

...to determine how close you can keep your light to your plants just use the back of your hand, hold it as close as you can to the light without burning your hand and that will be about the distance that will be safe for your plants.

...and if you have some kind of issue bro you should post up some pics because without pics you are unlikely to get any useful help.

if they are rooted. I would place the light about an inch away from that light. adjusting the height daily. if they are rooting. then they don't need much light. best to shut that light off save electric and turn on a small 25 watt bulb. its good enough .

btw, 6 to 8 inch's will be a safe distance no matter whether it's a single T5 bulb or an 8 bulb fixture, frankly, you'd probably be ok at 4 inchs.

Distance... It doesn't matter as long as the ambient temperature is as close to 75 degrees as possible and the clones are completely lighted...

I have multiple 48" 8 bulb T5 HO fixtures and with that amount of light and heat produced by it i would not keep a clone within 2 feet of the actual bulbs...

Variables come into play with this differential equation , think Newtons Law of Cooling ! I have just about every size and combination offered in T-5 units running daily and the answer is run as close as possible in order to keep intermodal distance as close as possible once clones are rooted . Fresh need very low lighting until rooted . I like to keep a good fan on the floor blowing fresh air towards the canopy and lights as it helps with the T-5 , especially during heat waves ... I recall your photos and it still looks far from wind heat or oil damage unless you hit em again Jonny .. I wish I had photographed all of the freaks I have seen in 25 years of growing hundreds of genetics combinations along with land races .. Most of the issues stem from inbreeding and ill fated breeding attempts .. I ll be busy here with bow hunting season my friend but feel free to hit me in a pm if you have any more questions . Last I saw your grow it was looking good ........Peace Jonny
