Hortilux Ceramic HPS - Total trash?

All this talk of efficiency and the distribution channel as far as I can tell is fucking growerhouse and I candidly can't even Google the God damn replacement bulbs.. insert favorite song quote "dealing in multiplication and we still can't feed everyone " ... I'm sold on it; just that horizontally mounted bulbs are for folks that like cooling hoods and using half of their 100ish dollar bulb. Sounds like were more excited about this product than hortilix's inept sales director.. :wall:

I’d like to Chime in on this. I’ve been using hortilux since I started growing almost 20 years ago; looks to me they are up to only bs, now. Ive been running three chps/SE600 for about 60 days and can say this; definately not what they are hyped to be. Very intense heat, leafy plants, stressed in different ways. Definately loses compared to the super hps. For all those who know about the science of spectrum, and were posting about the light having terrible par and 50% IR, like a heater lol! and than those who know nothing about the technicalities, just “fan boys” who believe it’s good because it’s hortilux. Seems like hortilux doesn’t know what to do anymore to gain more popularity in the cannabis market? Bottom line

CHPS is not a great spectrum for cannabis, and if it would work well and not stress plants would probably take more work than it’s worth. Stick with CMH Or super hps

Total trash I’m switching back to super hps today, thankfully, my plants will be much happier , stick to what you know
Yeah i cannot agree more.

Eye hortilux claims the ceramic HPS has 50%, yes 50 fuckin percent of the radiant output is in the IR range of 720nm to 1120nm. Then they justify it by saying PAR is useless, so it's fine.LOL

They might grow some excellent quality bud due to the PAR spectrum it does have, and the Ir might play some weird role too. But if 50% of the output is in the Ir range, i cant imagine yields are great at all[/QU

I started to research these lights because I can’t believe what I’m experiencing, especially after all the hype!!

We have 3 Phantom 315 CMH over a 4x4’ space, and 1 SE 600 Ceramic HPS with 1 Phantom 315 CMH over another 4x4’ space. We wanted to compare and see the differences because we are getting ready to stock our new grow place with lights. I am SO glad we did this trial run!!

First off, there is a lot more heat than we expected. Just based on what everyone was saying, we expected a significant heat reduction. Definitely NOT the case.

We are NOT impressed so far. We are now in our 6th week, and still have a few more weeks to go. But there is a significant difference between our plants being grown under these lights compared to all the other ones we are growing, which are under 1000 watt Super HPS over a 4x4’ spaces.

The yield is terrible under these lights! We put the same strains under all the lights to have a fair comparison. Our plants under the Super HPS are being weighed down by flower, breaking stems, etc.... The ones under the other lights are meagerly producing in comparison! Glad we figured this out before setting up the next place.

I just wish people were more knowledgeable, before they spoke and acted like they knew what they were talking about. It would save a lot of other people time, money, and headache.....

heat is based on watts used not the type of light, 600w of energy is the same from any source it will produce ~3.41 btu per watt.

hmm, read this thread from beginning to end... all these "experts" weighing in with their personal opinions, lots of talk of spectrum intensity, lumens/w.... high and low outputs in certain light ranges.

tf you all on? has everyone in this thread had nothing but smoke blown up their ass to help confirm their personal beliefs (most of which are total fucking bs btw...) in terms of legitimate output, quality of flower, potency and yield. fact of the matter is, there are only 2 values that should be considered. lumens/sqft, and CRI... its amazing how a thread about nothing but lighting... 5 pages in, and not one person has touched on the subject of CRI ? tf is wrong with all of you. simply put, even though its old tech, it has Not been surpassed by any other style of lighting. Ceramic metal halide is hands down without question, the absolute best. far from cost effective though, LED, HPS, MH, Induction... all fall short to CMH. CMH has a CRI (with quality bulb) of ~95%+. 2nd closest will be induction, followed by HPS, and then LED and finally MH. argue, bicker, bitch, complain, attack me personally. none of this will change the facts. when it comes to best of the best and concentration on quality of product, CMH simply cannot be beat. not going to argue, discuss, nor respond... believe differently and want to dispute? theres this amazing thing referred to as search engines... do some research and learn something. as to the rest of you claiming this or this is the best.... you have no idea what youre talking about. and function on purely on ego. Prove me wrong. With verifiable facts. until then.... CMH is the goto in terms of yield and quality. HPS is best in terms of value /$.... LED isnt far behind hps but has a very high initial buy in price. Induction is on par but wildly over priced... MH will beat out HPS on potency but never match in terms of yield. Realitys a bitch.
I have to agree here. I use to think all the hype was bull about cmh. I always used hps + Led which yielded good results. But decided to see what all the fuss was about. Results blew me away. My plants stayed green and healthy all the week through harvest damm near . With very little effort at that. I never had that before and thought maybe it was luck. The uv out put I believe is the reason these plants stay healthy and just get covered in resin. I get the absolute best quality and yields very well with my 630cmh. Using the Phillip's 3100k bulbs

Anyone else? Not interested in the quality unless you can show THC levels vs under HPS with the same clones and environment.

HPS grows high quality weed too and people insisting on higher quality though different spectrum is mostly making things up.
Well.....its been pretty much proven that a fuller spectrum will generally produce better quality. Maybe not neccesarily increase yields. But I know my 630 CMH outperforms when I was using just Hps and when using HPS + LED. Honestly I use to bag on CMH growers. But each person always had current grow pics with yields and data to back it up with. Which is more than I can say for most of the LED growers I ask to see data or pics of. Its always " oh my phones camera is broken. Its nighttime for the girls right now. I don't remember how much I yielded because I forgot to weigh it out." lol. Like how many growers just forget to check what there potential financial return is going be by weighing it out.

in farming there is always a trade off between yield and quality. HPS or high end LED's like 561 strip lights will produce slightly higher yields than CMH or T5's but slightly lower quality. for a PU MMJ grower like myself quality is more important but for a commercial grower yield is more important. a gram of white widow with a 16% THC content sells for the same price as a gram of white widow with a 19% thc content at the dispensary so there is nothing to gain from sacrificing yield for quality.

High end LEDS that cost grands per fixture ....compared to 400 bucks for a 630. And I am not sure that all high end leds can beat out cmh on yields. I yielded 700 grams with my 630w cmh and was only filling 2/3 of my 5x5 text with 6 plants. So probably 1.5gpw or more would be possible with perfect conditions
