Creosote. Have u smelled it before? Some say it smells totally orgasmic others are repulsed. It’s a fascinating plant. If you rub it’s leaves u can smell it or when it rains it fills the air with its very intense aroma . Some say “you can smell the rain” about it.

I'm on the fence with this one.

Creosote is a unique smell. I like it in small doses.
Just a rub on the leaves may be enticing but when standing
in a yard full of old telephone poles and railroad ties it becomes all consuming.o_O

They used to use that against termites in the '60's before modern bait stations.

Totally fucked up your fire insurance rates and you could definitely smell it after they treated.

2/3 the shit they used when I was a kid has been removed from the market. Remember those Shell No Pest strips everybody started hanging in their house to kill flles?

Nerve gas on a plastic strip.

I only know of it from the chimney 'sweeping' logs but did notice it had a scent to it which may just be all the other chemicals in it haha but I replied to pass forward a term for the smell of rain ... Petrichor. If you're in an area rich in creosote then that's what rain smells like to you, I've never really thought about it but our rain all has different smells as that front comes through..interesting

VTMiq'maq liked that term ... I remember him posting it, but my search didn't find it.

Hey guys. I do a bit of hiking. Mostly here in NW Florida. I live a mile off the Florida Trail and do there and back overnighters from the house. But my favorite local section is still closed due to Hurricane Micheal damage.

My other go to spot was Torreya State Park. They have less than 2 miles of blue blaze open. All 16 miles of the loop trails are still closed.

No big open views here. {although I assume most of the trees in this picture are blown down now} This is coming down off of Rock Bluff, where the primitive campsite is overlooking the Apalachicola River.
