No debate here. I'm a fan plucker from way back. Just have seen most maniacal table pounders against plucking have never tried it...they just read about it.
I get it... Not a table pounder here for sure. I trim laf that's it, let the leaves fall where they may. I Just went out of country for 30 days and my garden was automatic watering nothing else.. no human contact at all. Plants are from clones (several rounds) were the largest they've ever grown in 30 days. All I ever do is IPM unless I'm away....

I'm results oriented and this is not the first time I've seen this happen with no human contact. I don't fiddle much with my plants, they grow better without me in the way. Could be the 10K years of symbiotic relations with humans and they know whats coming?? Just a thought!

Im sure GML is going to do his method here, so it will be interesting the results. I did it, twice, simply because it was starting to get overgrown again, and wanted more node exposure. Slowed it down by 2 weeks tho, takes about 4 days to get rolling again.

but Im also using a 125 watt light, so more bud sites the better, lol..

PPPPOPPPPCORN, I GOT POOOPCORN HERE< POOPPCOORRNN>.

Clearly I know nothing of what I say.... however a simple browsing in a horticultural text book will show you that:
1: leaves are a sink to store energy to be used later during flower production (google senescence - its a thing and science)
2: Leaves are a source of energy - the energy and nutrients stored during the 1st half of the leaves life will be used up later when needed to produce fruit (seeds) and flowers. Again look up senescence.

It's science, I didn't make this shit up. Had no idea that there would be so much poo poo made of it. I thought we are all grownups here??
Why do leaves turn yellow and fall off, not completely normal? OR I guess it's nothing and those fan leaves are just blocking the light. pfffft..

Here's another info bomb - look up translocation - its a thing and science.

So 3 reasons not to de-foil and it took me 5 minutes to type it. I've got more....

Prove de-foil works with science - I'm all ears. The science says other wise, just sayin.

Lets get back to lighting discussion... I actually thought we were past all that de-foil thing.
I'm not rehashing this with you or anyone else. It's a dead horse. I don't need words from the internet when I want to see if something works or not I test it in "real" life so you have fun with google lol. I grow for the weed not the fan leaves. Good day sir

bob, what lights you use?
I'm running all cobs in my VEG and Flower rooms:

Bridgelux Vero29 V7 Type B 3000K LED - VEG room accented with some extra blue 5K not COBs.

Each set of 3 COBs driven with a Meanwell HLG-320H-C2100B power supply.

Plants gone wild... have 4 runs with this setup so far and another going as well as clones in VEG and soon to be some more seedlings...

Cool...glad you're not pounding the table. Truth is you can grow a lot a weed either way.

30 days!? No human contact!? Wow...I can't go that long. I have to look at the girls every day. I even have a web cam anchored to my lights looking down on my 2x4' tent!

And on a philosophical note, we're all moving inexorably to the chopping block. The plants get maybe 90 days...and we might get 90 years.

nothing a horticultural textbook says overrides the actual experiences of all the growers that successfully defoliate to increase yield and/or increase lower bud density/frost... it makes no sense to debate or argue about this when there are literally thousands of pics and videos on instagram and youtube of massive, perfect quality harvests that are the product of a routine that involves defoliation. you are revealing your own inexperience and ignorance on the subject by posting quotes from a horticultural textbook... do a side by side with clones of the same strain and see for yourself (make sure it's a strain that has already been shown by multiple growers to do well with defoliation, and also make sure you actually have some experience growing normal, healthy plants first).. 'science' from a textbook (most likely misunderstood by the reader at that) doesn't disprove documented results... jus sayin...

btw it's not de-foil. there's no foil. it's foliage, as in leaves :leaf:

exactly. we're not growing salad here.. we want nug meat. plus, let's not forget that sugar leaves are leaves too. nobody's defoliating those, and underneath all that frost they still seem to do a damn good job of photosynthesizing... not to mention calyxes contain chlorophyll too, so I'm sure the buds themselves are contributing to photosynthesis as well...

#first off, Not tryin to sidetrack thread, this pertains to current banter and GML, ***

check this out, my current GML method, (first time:/ ) day 15 after flip, then day 30 after flip, This is 125 watt hacked Mars300 with 35pc 3W-4000K diodes, 6pc 3W-Fullspect, 12pc 3000k factory 5W diodes- 3pc Red factory diodes, then put 60degree lenses on it. day 71 from seed, 41 day flower ( the plant on right didnt show sex for 17 days) Plant on Left showed in 7 days.

One thing I've noticed about gml is that he runs his grows like it's a drag race. He has one gear, and one throttle setting. He is going so hard that at the end he has to deploy a chute to slow down (extensive flush).

He only grows a couple of strains (albeit with a few testers this season). He is also very superstitious and very quick to blame. I mean superstitious in the sense that once something works for im, he becomes didactic and seems inflexible to other alternatives. It works eh, dam'it. ;)

His growing style is specific to his strains and his "system". Now you can't really argue with the results, but be careful about taking any one thing he does out of context. It may not work for you.

As for the lights, which boards does the elite series use?
