Good Morning/Weather Report Suite

Burrrr. We had a colder then expected low Wedesday morning. I camped down at my old river camp. The forecast was for a low of 40F but there was thick ice on the truck windshield. When I got home and checked the weather online, it said it was 27F. No big deal in most cases, but I hadn't put my Sawyer Squeeze water filter in the sleeping bag with me. I always sling out as much water as possible, and it hadn't been used for a good 6-7 weeks. Hopefully it was dry, but there is not good way to tell if it froze and busted or not.
Ask Sawyer and they will probably tell you to get a new one. And for $25 or so it might be the way to go.

Pretty big storm last night. We got a couple of inches out of it. It was in waves, and I got an hour walking after the first band had passed. I stayed out a little too long, and got a good light show on the way back to the house. We started the day off at 70F. It went downhill from there. At 1945 it's clear, 41F with 77% humidity. Forecast low of 33F with no chance of rain tonight. 10 day forecast, 75/30F with 4 days of possible rain. Looks like Wednesday morning will be the coldest, with the wet stuff coming the last 4 days.

Really nice day today. At 1515 it's sunny, 72F with 47% humidity. Forecast high low of 75/60F with 90% chance of rain tonight and tomorrow. 10 day high low of 76/33F with 4 days of possible rain.

We are supposed to get 3-4 inches through Monday, but down at the coast, they are calling for 5-7 inches with strong winds. Really hope we do miss the worst of it.

I spent a nasty night at the stealth camp last night. Not really cold by the mercury, but windy and wet. Today has been even worse. After I hiked home, I stayed my ass in the house until I went to work.

At 2000 it's cloudy, 43F with 76% humidity. Our high of 48F was early this morning. Forecast low of 37F with 10% chance of rain. 10 day high low of 64/30F with only two days of possible rain. That's not until Friday and then Wednesday of next week. Maybe my handyman buddy can finish all the other roofs he's working on, and take a look at my shit.

It's going to take a couple three years just to get roofs and what not fixed. When my boss was looking for roofers, they got on a waiting list with 400 people in front of them. That was just one company. And prices are over double what they were before. One roofer I know charged $2 a square foot for shingle roofs. These roofers coming in are charging $5 a square foot.

As for me personally, I'm going to be a while too. I've just about got the front yard clear, but haven't done any work away from the house. Sister owns Mamma's old house, and it was cut in two by a huge oak. I'm hoping to get the windows and other hardware I can use. That will be a slow job with me working by myself. And there are easily 10-15 more major projects like that that need doing.

My blood, man, it's thinner. I have got lots of good cold weather gear at thrift stores the last couple of weeks. Also have gloves and a neck gaiter on the way from Amazon. But we are about 10 degrees colder than normal.

No kidding, sounds like there's alot of people in trouble...but also as a capitalist there's money to be made with the skills if you got em.

I know a dude who quit his job, bought a skid-steer, and has it half paid off already. But he had a real good job, so had some change to put into it. I also know someone else who was trying to buy an excavator. Pretty small at 50 HP, but still $90K. He's about my age {close enough to 60 to scare it} so he's having 2nd thoughts about taking on so much debt. Now he's looking at used ones, trying to find a bigger one for around 50K.

But there are jobs to be had. If you have a pulse, they will hire you to hold a stop/slow sign for the debris pickups. It's rare to drive anywhere, and not have to stop at one.
