Ex-deputy arrested for allegedly planting drugs on drivers during traffic stops

A former sheriff's deputy in Florida has been arrested after he allegedly planted drugs on drivers during traffic stops. After a nearly year-long investigation, officials said 26-year-old Zachary Wester pulled drivers over for minor traffic infractions, planted drugs on them and took them into custody, CBS Miami reported.

The former Jackson County deputy wore a body camera and doctored the footage to conceal his activity, officials said. After looking at more than 1,300 minutes of video, investigators said they discovered evidence of Wester planting the drugs.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) said Wester was arrested Wednesday in Crawfordville. He faces felony charges of racketeering, fabricating evidence, possession of a controlled substance, official misconduct and false imprisonment.

The department said agents reviewed more than 1,300 minutes of footage and logged more than 1,400 hours working the case.

"There is no question that Wester's crimes were deliberate and that his actions put innocent people in jail," said Chris Williams, a special agent in charge for the FDLE in Pensacola.

"I am proud of the hard work and dedication shown by our agents and analysts on this case to ensure justice is served," he added.

Prosecutors were forced to drop charges in about 120 cases between 2016 and 2018, the Associated Press reported.

Florida man tied up wife's lover, cut off penis with scissors, deputies say

BELL, Florida -- Authorities say a Florida man held his wife's lover at gunpoint and cut off the man's penis before fleeing with the flailing appendage.

News outlets report 49-year-old Alex Bonilla was arrested hours later on charges including aggravated assault.
The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office released a statement Tuesday that said Bonilla broke into his neighbor's home Sunday, tied the neighbor up and mutilated his genitals with scissors.

Deputies say the victim told authorities that Bonilla then took the severed penis and fled across the street to his own house.

Deputies say the motive still is under investigation, though an arrest report says Bonilla caught his wife and the victim having sex in May.

The victim was hospitalized.

A man participating in a taco eating contest at a Fresno Grizzlies baseball game died, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

Dana Hutchings, 41, was pronounced dead at Community Regional Medical Center after being rushed there from Chukchansi Park on Tuesday night, the coroner’s office said Wednesday.

There is no official cause of death pending toxicology reports and a review of the man’s medical records. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, though it could take up to a month for a final determination to be made, coroner’s spokesman Tony Botti said.

Emergency staff at the hospital did clear food from Hutchings’ throat, Botti said, and preliminary indications are that he died of choking.

In a news release, Grizzlies team president Derek Franks said, “We are devastated to learn that the fan that received medical attention following an event at Tuesday evening’s game has passed away.

“The Fresno Grizzlies extend our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the family of Mr. Hutchings. The safety and security of our fans is our highest priority. We will work closely with local authorities and provide any helpful information that is requested.”

paramedics arrived in an ambulance and tried to resuscitate him.

The contest immediately concluded, though there no was no stoppage to the baseball game.

Tuesday’s contest was being held on “Taco Tuesday” as a prelude to the ninth annual Taco Truck Throwdown, scheduled for Saturday. It was was not sanctioned by Major League Eating, according to the Grizzlies. Nor did it serve as a qualifier for the World Taco Eating Championship, an MLE event set to happen Saturday during the Throwdown.

In the past, the Grizzlies have hosted a local qualifying contest with the winner earning a spot to compete against the professionals like Joey Chestnut and Matt Stonie.

The Taco Truck Throwdown will continue as scheduled, though the World Taco Eating Championship has been canceled, according to Grizzlies spokesman Paul Braverman.

This isn’t the first time a death has occurred during an eating competition. In 2017, a 20-year old college student died during a pancake eating contest at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. In 2018, A retired boxed died during a croissant eating contest in Argentina.
