DIY with Quantum Boards

What LED would replace SE 1k hps? I know I'll get shit for this question but what yields are you getting with your LED?
Four HLG QB96 Elite V2 boards on a 600w driver, or two 320w drivers. Even if you get a small increase in yield versus the 1000w SE, you're just about halving your power usage, and therefore near doubling your gpw. Know what I mean?

Four HLG 288 V2 or V2 Rspec boards on a 600w driver, or two 320w drivers, or probably even a 480w/two 240w drivers might have close to the ppfd of a 1000w SE.

Those QB96 are a *hidden gem.

Others will chime in.

HLG 550 Rspec.. If price is holding you back then ask for a discount code.

Best in my opinion for the price would be 6 qb96elite DIY with 2 HLG 320H 54a or b.

I'm not very good at building lights so I was gonna buy pre built. HLG 550, nextlight mega, spyderx plus, timber cobs were what I was looking at

Grrr.. I thought I was finally gonna get into the HLG QB game with my first 288 kit, only to receive a knock-off from the Amazon seller. This is what I ordered:

When I received the kit, I found no HLG insignia on the QB and realized it was a counterfeit. I contacted the seller for a refund as was told "a light is a light" and "I sell 30 of these a month. Return it, someone else will want to buy it."

Amazon dicks selling counterfeit shit for close to full price pisses me off.

Sweet baby Jesus theres a lot of wixkedinfo on this thread! Planning a flower only light utilizing qb’s. Goal is to build a 6 QB288 fixture running the boards at about 80-100w.

My main question to QB growers would be what K rating to go with. Considering this is flower only light, which would be the more promising rating. 2700k and add blues, ir and uv on seperate channels? Or 3000k with 80w of cree 660 strips and UV and IR on seperate channels?

My main goal of the grow is quality, with yields following behind at a close second place.

Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Happy New Year RIU

I have been lurking in this thread for a few weeks. Originally posted some questions on building my next light setup in the other knockoff board thread, as I was momentarily tempted to cheat on HLG with the girls from China. But sense got the better of me, and I have been planning on building out my lights using 4 qb288 v1 boards per HLG240 (@ 60w per board) to cover a 2x4 area. I will have 2 of these inside of a 5x4 closet. (@Rocket Soul thank you for your guidance so far, I have scaled back my initial plans like you suggested and going to keep it smaller and dial it in over time).

Anyway I have been waiting until after the holidays to pull the trigger on 8 of the 3000K v1 boards. Figured I would wait until my tax return money comes in and splurge on the new lights.

Well, this morning I went on HLG's site to stare at specs like usual, and almost spit out my coffee. The v1 boards are now only $29!!!!!!!! Deal of the decade :) I just bought my 8 boards for $225 shipped! I almost bought 2 more @ 4000K for veg but trying to wait to spend any more today. Still need to get my drivers and frame it up.

I have a bunch more questions for all of you but I will make seperate posts for those. Just wanted to share this awesome deal with you all. (Please no one buy the last 2 4000K boards that I will need lol).

Thank you @Stephenj37826 you just kicked my New Year off to an amazing start!

Congrats and hats off to Stephen and all of the HLG: give the alibubbers a run for their money!
Theyre not even that cheap anymore if you consider the price of their later versions with "cree" reds.

All im missing is some of that sweet 90cri....

5 x 36V boards or 3 x 48v boards this wouldnt max the driver. Qb120 is 36v iirc...

Edit: 48v alternative wont max out rhe driver

So I have been thinking about swapping out my FOUR QB288 V1's with V2's or R-spec. Why or why not?

Also, I have FOUR V1's on a Slate 6 in a 5x5 and it is not enough light. What would you add and why?
Add the four that you want to swap out then get the rspecs...

Hmm those are odd numbers, dang. I guess I can run 4x36V boards?
Yes, but yoour only using the driver at 80% capacity, more or less the same as with 3x 48V boards.

You could also use it for strips or cobs i guess. Your best bet is 5 x 36v chips of some sort or maybe 9 x 20v chips.

Happy New Year RIU and Quantum Heads !

First , the following probably will go under strain reviews but since I threw it under my quantum rigs , I figured I would share .
I blabbered about Barney’s gear before and this is the final attempt with them. Tangerine Dream Auto .... started a little over 5 days ago with some other reg solos ( GSG ) ...... well behold ....

Same god damn starter mix , same light . Twisted rabbit ear fucking leaves and slow ass start. Yes , I know runts can be keepers , but am done with them and not wasting my space or mediums on this Quasimodo fucking midget. This more than likely will be the first plant to see its doom for 2020 .... either I will place it cup and all in a plastic shopping bag with some rocks , spin around like an Olympian hammer thrower and lob it over a few fucking neighbors houses or bury an m80 in to cup and detonate it. Or just grab the pistol and drop a few rounds into it.

The GSG will get up potted soon ( 3 total ) and this one a poster boy for Barney shit seeds.

Back to my New Year’s Beer ! ....... Peace:blsmoke:

I see I'm not the only one that noticed those... Was planning on getting another 4 pack of 132s but 4 of these is probably a better plan I guess

The only benefit the 132s have is that you dont need any type of heatsink. I am still planning on building a frame using aluminum baker pans and angle aluminum. But yeah for $10 more you can get 4 288's instead. Kind of hard to pass that up.

I also just got the email that they are shipped!
