Looks for ideas for a QB304 Kit.
A single board 85 watt kit may take 5 -10 mins to put together.

Option 1
  • 1x Pre drilled Heatsink
  • 1x Board
  • Power cord/Wagos
  • Solid Core wire for boards DC
  • Hanger Clips
  • Screws
  • Should a driver be included ? HLG-80h-700 for 85 watts
Option 2
  • 2x Pre drilled Heatsink
  • 2x Board
  • Power cord/Wagos
  • Solid Core wire for boards DC
  • Hanger Clips
  • Screws
  • Should a driver be included ? HLG-120h-C1400 for 170 watts
Option 3
  • 1x Pre drilled Heatsink
  • 1x Board
  • Solid Core wire for boards DC
  • Screws
It is also possible to build a 3 board version with HLG-240-C2100 or a 4 board version with HLG-320-C2800

I have the nextlight mini and absolutely love it.. I' really curious what these things can do.. i just bought a johnson cob for my veg area and then these came out. I;m kicking myself in the nuts for not waiting a little longer. These would fit perfect in my little space

To be honest @robincnn, i think including the driver or at least a recommendation of a driver would be best. Since the driver(s) are what most folks struggle with deciding on, especially with new lights.

Depends on current and how hard you drive them...
I would say if you drive them soft and without lens you should be able to go close to the touch without getting bleaching. I've seen nextlight mini grows with only 4" between light and canopy and outgoing of it is a more efficient evolution I would expect similar results.
Fin heatsinks also have good convetion in vertical orientation so I see no reason why it should not work.

@robincnn How do you think these would work in a vert style grow? How close can you really be to the canopy over the course of a grow and not burn the plants?

I've been running my board at 75 watts for 5 days now at 6 inches from a test plant I pulled from my pheno run tent. This girl's an absolute runt so I considered her worth the risk. I'm 27 days from the flip on her and no bleaching or burn yet. I could imagine these would work very well in a vert setup, and will likely not produce enough heat to warrant dedicated active cooling. A couple fans circulating air over the heat sinks will do you just fine, most likely.

I noticed some droop when I was running the board at about 3 inches so I moved it back, but I'm not entirely certain that wasn't because I had not been prudent in watering her. My testing is in no way scientific, so take it with a grain of salt.

...there are a lot of things to do with the esp8266 ...and a lot of vids and proyects using it...

...new models have other hardware too... lipo charger ...esp8266 with 4 mb of memory... or more... look at the prices too... maybe the clones models are the most economic way with the esp8266 or similar...my pov off course...

...the sparkfun and adafruit have tutorials about it ... when i have a bit of time i try to post this tutos here..

Will try out these boards in 2x2.5 tent when i get pre drilled heatsinks next week. 2 boards on a HLG-120-C1400 170watts would be more than enough.

For now here is the update in Veg /Herb Tent.

Hi Robin, could you do a vertical oriented test on these boards compared to horizontal? Many people are interested in using these as side lighting. When you get time of course.

Board has 2 sides and both sides help with cooling. If the back side is facing a wall or insulation then the board will have only 1 side to provide cooling.
If the back side is facing on a table or insulation then the board will have only 1 side to provide cooling.

Does this test help ?
1 vertical and 1 facing down. Thermocouple in center of both.
Will share data in next 1 hr

So, apparently the boards run cooler vertical than horizontal, ttystick predicted this, looks like he was right.
...and in response to your question a day or two ago about tilting the top board vs the rest, I'd recommend to use two separate fixtures. Easier to install, manage and optimally position.

Makes sense. 2 sides cooling instead of 1 plus you get the power of convection when it's vertical.
Quite. This is far from a new concept; my old school magnetic ballasts are covered in fins designed to shed the most heat when the unit is hanging on the wall. The fins themselves run vertically.
