He would have won last time, too. And, I agree. I think it’s about time for some fresh blood. I think incumbents should have term limits similar to the Presidency.

I get that you're just trying to get your thread back on its fail ass topic but why doesn't he just run as Independent? Why try to keep sabotaging a party that he isn't a member of?

I tried being reasonable, but any real thread I make everyone just pokes fun. Because like Fogdog says it's not good enough. Unless I abondone Amitabha and read passages from Stalin's communist manifesto before going to bed as my prayer, nothing is good enough.

Anyone who asked a real question got a real answer straight from my interpretation of personally reading the sutras.

You only bring it upon yourselves when I've constantly said I'll be real, if you're not being a bitch about what you ask.

You get to ask a Buddhist any question you want about this religion. I've seen there are many misconceptions about what is and what's not a "real" Buddhist.

Umm, ok. Good for you. That's one interpretation of Buddhism, and probably what you think of is some western version from a weirdo named Henry Steel Olcott, who really damaged Buddhist culture. Because of him many think Buddhism is just this fancy way of thinking, like no different from a New Age humanist secular liberal who only values critical scientific methods, doesn't believe in God, let alone a higher power.

Well, lots of what you were told are wrong. Maybe not "wrong" but you were given too broad and stereotypical information. Especially if it was one of those people who think they're an expert because of reading a wikipedia entry.

See, I'm a Pure Land Buddhist, who believes in the higher power of Amitabha Buddha.

What? Higher power you say? But but, Buddha2525, all Buddhists are really atheists!

Most Far East Asian style Buddhists, like myself, not the "original" Theraveda Buddhists (atheistic, new age, and "scientific" ones such as Sam Harris), do believe in a higher power.

They call out, "Namo Amituofo" or in the original Sanskrit, "Om Namo Amitabha Buddhaya," which roughly translates to: "I take refuge in the Amitabha Buddha."

To most Buddhists, who are also Pure Landers, when we talk about the "Buddha" we don't mean Shakyamuni Gautama, the last physical human Buddha, but the "celestial" Buddha from the western Pure Land Sukhavati.

Yes, we also pray too. But not like most Christians, who think God is like Santa Clause, or a Jinn. We think of Buddha as support, hence why we seek refuge. Our actions are ours alone, but we seek to cleanse our past wrong karma, to eventually become either a bodhisattva, or a Buddha. What we pray for is that others can see compassion and lead a proper Buddhist life, such as "Om Mani Padme Hum."

What separates Pure Landers from other sects is we believe that if we live a pure enough life, and have a one pointedness towards becoming a Buddha, but since we live in the Mofa or Mappo age, where Dharma has become "degenerate" or "corrupted" the only way to enlightenment is to have Amitabha teach us the true Dharma in his pure land by saying, "Namo Amituofo" over and over, until we die and are reborn in Sukhavati.

I hope this made sense and wasn't too long, making a good introduction.

I'm going to wait until after the debates to decide. Good understanding of the issues, supports a liberal platform, ability to deal with complexity, works well with others are some of the attributes I'm looking for. A track record of getting things done is a plus. I think a person should want the job, in my opinion.

Just give it up, Pad. You don't care about civil rights issues just like Bernie. People who do think that civil rights are important issues of the day want different leadership than Bernie can provide. Bernie cannot win the Democratic Party's primaries without the support of Black and Hispanic Democrats and so, Bernie sunk his 2020 presidential campaign when he spoke those lines on Apr 4 of this year.

it makes me furious that no one will even mention him..when they have to bring the subject up it's anyone but..they're even bringing up Bloomberg..yeah another bazillionaire puts on a blue shirt.

msnbc did a show from USF on friday and Sanders was mentioned..they HAD to mention conversation turned to FREE college $15/hour and single payer..positive accolades but one kid was like 'too many taxes' where do you think he got that from?

I wonder how much in taxes he pays while studying at USF?

I don't lend money, it causes too much problems. Go take a gun, tell those in rich hoods to give you money and tell them you're doing it because they're greedy fucks. I don't drive cars into anyone. What is there about affirmative action, equal funding for schools and fair lending laws that would cause a race war? OH, I get it. You and your kind couldn't bear to see dark skinned people having equal rights to white people. So you honkies will get all angry and just drive your cars into crowds or go off in a gang to beat people up.

We have laws for that kind of action too. Would prefer that you remain calm, peaceful and not hurt anybody but the majority will make an example of you if that's what we have to do to keep our kids and families safe from white racist assholes.

We counter demonstrators outnumber your kind 4 or 5-to-at your racist demonstrations. Just saying you can't win.
