He texted me and said his dog had to get 12 teeth pulled and that he had to give it antibiotics and pain meds every 3 hours. Then he called me and said his sister in law could watch the dog if I wanted him to come in. I said no.

Here's a funny story, one day at work me and my boss are building a 6000sf house and we need some help. Well a dude shows up out of nowhere and ask for a job my boss hires him and about thirty minutes later he's lying on the ground screaming ohh my back . My boss said go call 911 I grab him by his arm and pull a side and say in a load voice " get the shovel and I'll hit him in the head and we can bury him with the other one " . My boss got really pissed at me but the other dude jumped up and ran off. The next day he puts me in charge of hiring and firing.

Problem was their was only me and him.

So yeah in 15 working days he has called off, had to start late or get done early 5 of those days. Which is literally a third. It really is hard for us to find any help let alone good help. We start helpers out at $11-15 too depending on skill set! Any who I'm fucked either way.

Tell your boss to fire him ASAP; I'm serious, this idiot will end up killing you, there is live electricity around pools.

Then I get home and my neighbor whos aboveground pool has just been sitting there uncovered for 2 years asks if I can help her get it cleaned up by June 1st so she put her house on the market.

So his new name is "well he didn't last long". He texted me another story this morning about throwing up all morning and how he didn't want to infect me. I said for him to.come in anyways. Then he said his wife had another baby doctor appointment. So when I got to work I told my boss to fire him. So he did.

Yeah. It sucks for a couple reasons. The biggest being now I'm working by myself. 12.5 hours in 81f today. But really when he showed up he was a decent worker. He just sucked. And I do feel kind of bad that he's got a kid on the way but goddamn. The final tally was 7 out of 16 days where he didn't work a standard day. Like fuck. What is wrong with people?

I hope you can find some reliable help soon. I can't imagine doing that shit for an entire season never knowing how to plan the jobs because you can't count on your help roughly 50% of the time

That's exactly it! It was causing me more stress and grief to change my schedule around than it was actually just having to do the work by myself.
