I think mixing spectrums is a waste of time unless you have a board with mixed leds on it. You not blending much of the spectrum otherwise, you just lighting different parts of the plant with different spectrum. 3000k, 3500k work just fine for both veg and flower. 4000k works well also actually, I'm growing some plants under a 4k QB 120 right now
You try and get real scientific and lower your end product.

Loading up the Quantums -------

First in the " Mylar Room " ....
The Peyote Cookies and Candy Dream got Flipped to 12/12 a few days ago ...
Did dome more LST and some cleanup on them ... Continued the TIRESAS misting using a new 50 ppm mix ( mixed in ) , spraying both of their branches daily. Not looking for 100s of seeds a few apiece to experiment on.

QB - 288 rig 90cri ( 260watt ) 3000k plus QB 4000k panel.
Running up to this point at 340 watts ... Adding another 120-150 watts with another QB 304. So looking to the 400+ range once I get it all settled.

Adding that panel this weekend for the flowering stage - using a different driver than what was sent with it ... Driver is already remote mounted , just need to make the connector cable from driver to board ( using a quick disconnect ) ... Need to go to fry's electronics for 18 gauge red / black wire spools.

In the 3x3 ...... I have a number of plants " warming up " for another flower tent ( ordered another since mine 42x30x60 is full of pinholes ) ... So once I get that the ol 3 panel batwing will go in there. ( been in mothballs since November) .

The BREEDER plants and solo cups are in there temporarily ( getting quantum goodness ) and will be there until a few more leafsets than moved to another area. GSG / GORILLA GLUE will be potted up later for consumption. Once I get the rotation back on track ...
Plus crossing , I will be good. I figure when the blue dream get done ( Humboldt auto ) I can give the Mephisto more room !

3000 is good all around from veg to flower.
thanks, i recall 3000k is good for flower specifically. does veg care as much / will it make a huge difference if its 3000k instead of its optimal 5000k?

also, is there any benefit of splitting the middle and going with 4000k or mix 3 4 5 together?

is there a reason you went primarily 3000k and then added a 4000k? what has your expereince been with temps?

can you explain what you mean by mixed led's? do you just mean different brands like samsungs and some other stuff? (also curious why it would no longer be a waste of time once they are mixed).

have you tested 5000k? apparently its good for veg but i question how much of a difference the veg will feel about the color temp difference.

Basically, you can go with 3000k, 3500k, or 4000k for an all-around seed-to-harvest light. Most here seem to go for 3000k or 3500k. Don't sweat it.

200w QB288 fixture with a sonoff wifi controller and bayite power monitor. It turned out pretty nice.













gorgeous! can you recommend a guide for just making your own qb with light strips (samsung f series im looking at). roujghly know how much strips i need but not how many drivers, wiring, and heatsinking (where would i get a heatsink and what to consider)?

appreciate the tip, as a full nerd/ocd perfectionist, glad to know i dont have to worry about this. i was told that the weed would look or taste funny if only given one spectrum since its getting too much of 1 type in comparison with HID's that supposedly give full spectrum

4000k is kind of a tester .... 3000k is my main spec to run ... I have 2 other rigs at 3500k , no issues ( or complaints ) .... There are some side by side grows that illustrate some differences ( ledgardener did tests ) to see if there is any real difference. They are a LITTLE different ( strain growth ) but most builders here like the 3000k spec as preferred.....

3000k / 3500k / 4000k are all good choices for growing. The 4000k best represents the color spec of sun at 12:00 high noon .... 3500k has a bit of blue , 3000k a bit of red.

I only added as I can start seedlings with that panel dropped down above a tray .
That single light would carry new seedlings into veg then I could fire up other 288 rig with 3000k for veg/flowering - so it's function then would be supplemental. I have one more 288 3000k rig that I have not built yet because I was interested in 4000k panel to test.

Temps are remarkably controlled ... Proper air movement is really all I use. Temps vary from 68° to 83°ish depending on power used and environment. Tents tap out around 86° and I only use oscillating fans . Some Power hungry guys are throwing panels / cobs / strips and LEDs in custom rigs , so those types will be different. Regular QBs under average load are warm to touch ... Not like a hot plate ..... Lol .

One COULD add a clip fan angled from tent support to blow across panels if desired.

Is it possible to veg under a 135w QB 3000k ..... was thinking that this may work dialled down or would it be best to get the 65w light?

Yes you can .... Depending on grow space ... Say 2x2 or 3x3 size.
It will grow in either with good results , but for a 3x3 a dual QB would be better.

I meant to be effective, you'd need to mix 3k, 4, etc on one board. I've not use 5k, i prefer the universal ability of 3000-4000k. Actually, the Samsung 4000k looks to have a good spread of spectrum.

The science says it'll help or make a difference. And I'm sure you'll find some guys who will swear by it. But I'm not in that League.

The biggest obstacles are making sure you have good water, air circulation and recirculation, the right temperature, nutrients. Without those you won't have great success.

Here's a stupid question as I wire these up and second guess myself... I'm wiring 2 qb288 boards to 1 hlg-320h-c2100b driver. Does it matter which side of the board I put the positive/negative from the driver to? Looking at the diagram on the hlg site for 2 boards in series the wires from the driver are hooked up to the top left positive and bottom left negative. Does it matter in any way if I connect to top right positive and bottom right negative? Hopefully that makes sense, but if not I'll try again when the meds wear off

Basically I want to do the same configuration using the positive/negative on the other side of the boards.

Is there any need to ground the frame? I'm thinking no, but I'm being told maybe by one person

As soon as I get this done I'll be ready to go. I want to be totally sure I'm wiring them correctly because I can't afford to ruin one of these boards or drivers. If all goes well I'm going to order 4 more boards (if they're in stock) and add 2 to this frame for the 4x4, and put 2 in a smaller tent.

glad this forum is here, at other places/blogs/sites theres a lot of 5000k thrown around. any comments on 5000k?
