DIY with Quantum Boards

Such a tough question :cry:

I will give it a try...
  1. Quantum Board is Mid Power LED Board and Vero 29 is a COB
  2. Single Boards are $75 + $15-$20 for heatsink so $90-$95
  3. Single Vero C is $35+ Heatsink cost $15-$25 , cost adds up if you use more cobs
  4. Boards are more efficient .
  5. Boards are easier to install and DIY. Thermal management is easier as heat is spread on 50 times larger area.
  6. No TIM is needed with boards. TIM is needed with COB
  7. Boards can come closer to canopy and have no issue. Ideal for low height tents.
  8. Boards provide better penetration by spreading the light evenly all over canopy
  9. Easier to install a reflector on COB. lens can be installed on board but it take more time.
  10. Boards have push wire connector. easy to use
  11. Vero you have to solder. You can use pizomate connector but you cannot exceed 130V in series, which means on 4 cob series you can only use the Vero D
Both Vero and Boards make awesome light engines.
You cant go wrong with either. please try both and let us know what you like.

Wao was wao super excellent info thank you very much for taking the time to answer, I am using an open space with 12 1k Hps and I am thinking about to replace all of them with this better efficient lights. Thank you one more time.

It could be installed/mounted high like 1000w hps but without some serious lenses it would be a waste to mount them far away from plants.led and hid have little in common when it comes to mounting heights.hps will burn plants with ir and led will not.so we use the les radiation angles for our height more so than any type of reflector like is used in most hid lighting.plus with hid youhave 1 light source so mounting high above gives you better coverage,not the case with multiple cob array or even quantum boards.
Thats my take.

So i have been following posts about the quantum's and will be
Ordering this week, question is this, does it make any sense running
4 boards. In a small tent 2X3x5. I have carbon scrubber and an inline fan. For driver im thinking about a 240-2100 or the 320-2800, using the A style. I dont plan on running them full throttle, that would be bad news, but having ability to turn down, efficiency would increase. Any input would be appreciated

You have dark bars in your pics. When that happens under HID, it's due to the sine wave curve of AC power delivered to the lights. Since these are DC driven, I'm wondering what's up?

@robincnn ? Any ideas? Might it have something to do with his cheap driver?

One can see from the posting directly below that Meanwell drivers don't do this.
I am using an older ipad ... Used my newer phone no lines. It is easier to post from ipad

no lens for the canada folks i guess the price jump is totally outta control. For one board it will cost me more then the board itself. I couldn't believe it mouser and digikey want 10$ CA for one lens times ouch

Ship them to me. I can add along with your order as long as i receive them. address on website.

@Stephenj37826 mentioned earlier. We will stock these lens around end of the month.

There are only 24 boards in 4000K and 24 in 5000K and 10 already reserved.

Before I start shopping I would like to know what are the differences between Quantum and Vero29 v7? Why should I buy Quantum instead of Vero29 v7?

How high on the ceiling can this light be installed? Can 650watt light of this board be installed as the same high like a 1000 hps?

The retrofit kit is being tested against a 1000 watt Hortilux. Both are in Magnum XXL reflectors. As far as I can tell I've tested both with a par meter and the Retrofit kit holds its own as far as intensity at the same hieghts as the his side. This particular build is running 550 watts at the wall vs the Hortilux 1060.

4 boards is what Capitan is running in a 3X3 on a 240 2100. In your space I think the 240 2100 will be plenty. If however you ever plan on upsizing your space the bigger driver would be nice. You can always dim the 320-2800 . Just my thoughts on the matter. It's extra $ up front but one thing I have learned is everyone starts out small and increases there grow space over time.

Nope.... The optics( in my opinion) are good for lower power builds or open rooms. If these boards where spaced even closer together the intensity would be even higher. It all comes down to the particular build. If I was good with 24" mounting hieghts or less no optics is fine (in a 500+ watt build). If you are in an open area I would consider the optics to reduce spillage. If not I'd go without ( unnecessary cost).
