UPDATE

I've added a massive 12" oscillating floor fan to help improve air flow, and maybe cool temps slightly. It's currently sat in one corner, but being 4' tall it's pointing down at the light. Considering putting it on the same timer as the lights, out getting a seperate timer, and have it come on in bursts. I'll be investing in a couple of clip on fans soon.

I've also taken to leaving my watering can in there right now, see if that brings the humidity up somewhat. I think 400w hps warming two pots of minimally watered soil, is getting a lil dry in there.

Any thoughts, if I'm doing anything wrong, chime in.

Just make sure that fan isn't too much for the little ones yet, you want them to jostle not look like a guy holding onto a pole in a hurricane

Hahaha, yeah. The fans pointing up and over the light/reflector, minimal breeze down at the green stuff. Anything there is bounced off the tent walls. It's only temporary anyway.

Thinking of switching out the hps for something a little cooler/cheaper to run, til they get a little bigger. 400w seems a lot for four tiny leaves right new.

OK, quick update for today...

THA SHIZNIT
Day 8 from seed
Day 4 from sprout

Still looking green and healthy. Getting a little wider and taller, no new leave yet though. Pics to follow tonight or tomorrow.

MK ULTRA KUSH AUTO
Day 2 from seed

Nothing has broke the surface yet. I'm gonna be super patient with this one though, think I was expecting an early soil pop from The Ultimate. You live and learn.

After changing plugs over, switched out the 12" pedestal fan for a 9" oscillating desk fan, which now sits nicely on the floor and points directly at the hot bulb. Hoping to improve temps a little with this.

Temps around 28-30 lights on (before this fan), 22-23 lights off. Is this too much of a variance? Humidity now sits around 45-50%, up from about 20% before adding watering can to grow tent.

Any thoughts, holla.

As far as the temp variance, I think 10° is good, although I think you want just a few cooler if possible.

I run my tent between 80° and 85°(stoneage American temps), but I have LED. If I remember correctly you are using HID.

I believe 77° light on, and 68° light off, is optimal, although I think you will be fine with those temps you mentioned.

I like pics.
I will show you mine if you show yours.

Here ya go, mine as promised. I'm concerned with how small she is, and how slow this next set of leaves is taking to come out. Hoping for a little growth explosion soon.

I'm looking at many options to cool my tent. I dread to think what temperatures will be like in the height of summer. I'm not sure which option would be the best upgrade...

6" extract fan and filter (currently 4")
Cooltube for the hps
Active intake fan

How are your results with led? I'd imagine temperatures would be so much easier to manage!

You are doing great!
Right now, she is concentrating on building a good root system. It may seem really slow now but, believe me, there is alot of growth going on underneath. She will grow exponentially from here.

Here is a pic of my youngest, Jack Herer Auto, 10 days was the youngest pic I could find.

What size is your intake compared to exhaust? Some have intake 2, even 3 times the size of exhaust. This might help.
A pic of the actual setup will help people better understand your needs as well.
The more visual updates, the easier.

Yes, LED is very easy keeping temps in check. The humidity is my only issue, due to winter heating. Without the help of a towel wick, I have low 20%'s RH.

The whole LED vs HID is fiercely debated. I chose LED because I had the initial start up $ for it. LED cost more up front, but I think it saves in long haul for the hobbiest grower.
There are alot of crap LED out there. If you decide to go that route I can help you avoid a few hundred dollar mistake, I initially made, and guide you to the best of the best (advice given to me by a much respected expert in the matter).

Anyway, all looks good man! If you get a chance, get some setup pics.

Btw, I don't start with LED in seedling stage. I have a 2', 4 bulb, t5 I like to use.

Haha, think I'm just impatient. Looking how the little lady has progressed since my first photos, I can actually appreciate the growth now. I'm in the tent too often to see it! Feel I should give her a name as well, for luck!

Intake at the minute is just passive, flaps and ducting holes left open on the tent. Think come spring I'll need to think of upgrading intake/exhaust.

LEDs sure do look interesting, but yah,I simply don't know enough about them right now. Will do some serious researching, as saving money on the electric bill would be a nice bonus.

There's 1 pic of the setup on page one, just your basic 400w hps grow jent job, I'll try and upload more photos, more often.

Your girl looks great man. They are some fat fucking leaves. You got a grow diary? Would be an interesting watch.

TY, at the moment I am not journaling. Too much time consuming.

Your set up looks good. The debate of passive and aggressive intake will out live us all, I presume.

If you do research LED, try not to be fooled by "reviews". There is ALOT of misinformation and butt loads of $$$ spent getting the well known brands sold. The truth is, if you want a good one, you will pay dearly. I am using a 300w Pacific Lights Concept, $750. I love it so far.
My Advanced Platinum Series p150 is sitting idle now, but I will use it for future early veg.

Things are looking promising inside the tent - trying to limit myself to one sneak peek a day, so I'll actually notice any changes!

Shiznit looking nice, perky, green and healthy.

Taking to covering the MK Ultra Kush pot with a shallow drip tray filled with water, keeping the seed in the dark, while still warm, and further boosting humidity in the tent. Seems to be doing the trick, MK looks like its just about to break surface! All the water is evaporated off too, temps are alright so happy days.

Also inherited an infrared non contact thermometer, so I'll update you all soon with leaf temps, then see if I need to adjust my light height from there.

Peace for now!

Shame you're not journalling, you're plant is looking beastly so it would be nice to get updates, was thinking of trying that strain myself as never smoked it before!

Intake fans, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Keeping it super simple as possible right now.

Quality LEDs, for now, I think are way out of my comfortable price range. Again, would like to see updates of your grow and see how you fare with them though!

Take care

Oh yeah, should have said.

Pots are in the tent under light on 18/6 schedule.

In the post I have a hygrometer/thermometer (currently using a vivarium one, so will use that as backup when digital arrives) and a digital ph meter. Further down the line I will be installing oscillating fans, possibly intake fans if temps get too high, and possibly venting the exhaust through the ceiling, which the missus is gonna kill me for.

I also have in backup 1 x TH Seeds MK Ultra Kush, which sounds incredible. I'll be investing in some more seeds soon, ad maybe try and plant a seed every 3 or 4 weeks, to keep the cycle going.

Any help or advice appreciated, cheers ladies and gents.

Your light is way too close and your next time start off in a smaller pot like a red solo cup

What's your temp?

Do you have a fan in there?

I'm not sure who you're responding to dude. I went with light height from the chart below, so really it should be in the optimal range. I started them out in final pots as they're autos and I didn't want to stress by transplanting, and risk stunting their growth further.

Temps are reading around 28-30 lights on, but I've just got an infrared non-contact thermometer so shortly I will upload some leaf temps, and some pics.

Yes, as mentioned in previous posts theres a 9" oscillating fan pointing directly at the hps, which has cooled down the air below the reflector massively.

Can I ask, with one of your grows you've added a top layer of perlite. Is there any benefit to this? Still got half a bag of perlite spare, and I think aesthetically it looks quite nice!

Cheers, SSW

Hey man, thanks for jumping on board!

I was very much considering getting the 1.2x1.2 too! I think stealth wise it was just a touch too big for my room though. I am a bit jealous, lol. Are temps pretty manageable with a space that size?

What strains are you growing bro? Yeah, by all means post some updates on here. You should just copy and paste your journal onto rollitup, lol.

I'll pm you soon. Peace!

Hey bud and thanks for the shoutback, yeah the tent is a bit big lol I didn't realise I shud o got the more manageable 1m my room is 7' x 13' so I've got it side onwards. About Temps I was struggling at first because I got a 600w hps so to combat that I initially had my light set at just over 4' had 2x fans a9" and a 6" I was struggling with humidity aswell ( Temps N humidity) gi hand in hand lol so I was spraying str8 water every hour to regulate then I placed a bucket of water in there still no change or nit enough so I then put a bucket of wet soil in there and turned my 6" air filter extraction off and that's finally got my Temps and humidity at a more manageable 29C and 38% - 42%umidity.
I've got 4x strains from gorillaseedbank
1x critical plus x white dwarf 60-65day from seed
1x blue treacle 65-70day
2x experimental 65-70 day
Breeder reckons bout 450great yield

Just one little photo update today.

Rotated pots to prevent Tha Shiznit leaning into the light too much. Also put my thermo/hygro under shelter in the pot with her for (hopefully) better, more accurate readings.

One week old from sprout today :) Apologies for crappy out-of-focus lights-on pictures.
