hey killahz - are you talking about the 4" end cap that slides over the od of the 4" pipe or the 4" id cap, which I've only seen in threaded? This seems like a great idea instead of 2l soda bottles. Just easier to move around and sturdier. And. The best part, no need paint to protect the roots. Thx
Thanks Jela, I may take you up on that soon, but for now I rather enjoy it. Spending time in the garden is relaxing to me, I can spend hours fiddling with my girls.
It will be interesting to see how the buckets do, as my last grow was all soil organic done 5 plants mainlined for 8 tops and averaged 5 1/2 oz per plant.
No they dont go over the OD. They fit on the inside. Ill take a pic of the cap when i get home. You can pick them up at home dept or lowes for like 30 cents each. And yes they are indestructible. You probably will never have to get new ones. However if you are thinking about buying 4 inch pvc, they can get pricey... i was lucky to have a few 10 foot pieces laying around.
Commend you on the enginuity, cheap and easy. 4" pvc isn't that expesive, at least sched 40 the white stuff and they make an end cap that goes over the OD of the pipe that is flat. The walls aren't as thick which would give alittle more room for growing. I looked at trying it with 6" septic pipe which is only 1/16" to 1/8" wall thickness. Couldn't justify cutting the pipe up to do it.

I guess prices in hawaii might be a little more. 10 foot 4 inch pipe like i used was priced at 40 bucks... either that or im a cheap ass and find that to be over priced. Lmao!!!
I am in hi too & went by diamond head sprinkler this afternoon with some returns. The thin wall PVC 4"x20', $54. Abs is cheaper but I don't know if that might leach into nutrient solution? I have some 3" thin wall PVC I use for gutter downspouts, I'm going to see if it leaks light.
The black septic pipe i use is pretty thick. No light penetration. Only place light could leak through is from the cap at the bottom. However the bottom is not exposed to light at all because it sits flush with the floor.Any ABS or other thin walled pipe will let the light through (white or green). Most likely your cheapest route would be to go to a electric supply outlet, and buy the gray schedule 40 elect conduit.

I just want to recommend a small piece of equipment. Its a water circulator. I use it in my nutrient tank and it circulates a current in my tank 24/7. I think its great because it makes NO NOISE or HEAT and has low power consumption (10w max). It means that I have no salt build-ups or surface slick what-so-ever and can mix up large amounts of solution in one go without worrying it may spoil, this has saved me lots of time ... The solution literally looks like you have just mixed it.
Some may say, 'I just use a stick and stir', I tried that but once a slick or salt buildup occurs its almost impossible to stir it all back together like it was.
